When we log anything on our own cache, we post it as a note.

in reply to: Lost Camera #1739752

I want to thank all the people that responded to my posted note regarding my missing camera. The good news is that my camera was found. The embarrassment was that my son found it in our garage. Saturday afternoon when I got home from caching with SS Bing & The Silver Fox my son asked me to get his bike down out of the garage. I set the camera down and forgot all about it. I checked my car, my jacket, and my basement twice. Not finding it I feared the worse, I think I left it at a cache. I’ve set things down at a cache to sign the log, rehide the cache and have walked away. I panicked because it was my digital camera. Ian found it yesterday and boy was I relieved.

Have fun fellow geocachers. Hartman Creek SP in a very nice area. We hiked the Ice Age Trail segment that ran through the park. The campgrounds in the pine plantation are neat. That weekend also falls on the weekend that Door County has its Lighthouse Walk. May 15th is the day that we will hold the dedication ceremony for the Pottawatomie Lighthouse up on Rock Island. Maybe I’ll be able to attend 05’s campout. Have Fun

I would say the small county parks of Door County. We’ve been going up to Door County for 25 years. Since I’ve started geocaching I’ve visited and revisited the county parks up there.

Thank You. Number 400 was achived while on our way to the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival in Alpena Michigan. The cache was The Seul Choix Lighthouse cache in Gulliver, MI. Seul Choix Lighthouse(pronounced Sis-Shwa) is one of our usual stops on the way up to Alpena. We had a booth at the festival displaying the progress of our restoration of the Pottawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island. Pottawatomie is Wisconsins first lighthouse. Built in 1836, the reopening dedication ceremony will be held on May 15,2004 at the Door County Lighthouse Walk. I invite everyone to come up and hunt the Door County caches and visit our historic treasures. Keep the Flame!

We can relate to this story. I love hiking the IAT. It’s not uncommon for us to take our bikes to a trailhead and hike back to the car. It was in Southern Kettle Moraine where my wife and I took two cars. We dropped one off at state forest headquarters and drove north to the Waterville segment trailhead. To lighten your load before hiking, my front pockets were emptied. After hiking 15 miles and close to the HQ my wife says You have the keys for the big van? RIGHT? Oh !@#%, I took everything out of my pockets and threw it in back of the mini van. For the next half mile I was trying to figure out how we could get back to the van with hiking. Rangers are nice guys, maybe they could have a heart and help us. Hitchhiking? Calling on of the kids to come to pick us up? Then I remembered,I yelled HEY, I reached in my back pocket pulled out my wallet and unzipped the secret hiding pocket and produced two spare car keys. We were both exhausted and very very happy. This experience has made me aware to always check to have my keys.

We usually go to American Science & Surplus, Walgreens for trinkets. Sherpers Surplus for misc.supplies, Target for RubberMaid containers. REI for hiking gear & convertable pants(when on sale)
Culver’s for food. Amoco for fuel.

I’m working on getting out to Janesville to help me with my next 100 mark. My wife & I want to do the bike trail and hike the Ice Age Trail. Thanks for placing caches in the area for us to hunt.

You can use your new boat to get to these caches. There are two on Rock Island. Keepers cache and Island loop. Party Island is on Okauchee Lake. Under where? in Silver Lake are just a couple.

Here is the story behind our name, The Troops. When I was first introduced to Geocaching.com, I typed in our zip code. The first cache that came up was Plank Road Waypoint. The cache was on the way to Brookfield Square. When I dropped off my wife at the mall she asked me if I was going to take “The Troops”(our six kids)to go find the cache. So the name stuck. Four of the children are teenage plus age and have strayed from the fun of geocaching and the five and eight year old only go when it is a easy one. When I go on a geocache-a-thon, I’m an army of one. I never served in the military either. That’s how we got the name.

    Thank you for the recognition.
I was coming out of a two week vacation and I wanted to get past the 300 mark. My next vacation is in two weeks where I will be campground host on Rock Island. I won’t be doing to much caching that week. So all you Geocachers come on up and say hi and hunt the two caches on the Island. I’ll be there 7/10-7/13
