    The Ice Age Trail

or…(this goes through Copper Falls State Park, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest- not sure of the continuous the length though.

    From the GORP website:

The North Country National Scenic Trail-

There are four certified segments in Wisconsin. The longest one is in the Chequamegon National Forest. This very pretty segment offers opportunities to fish along the way and passes through two small Wilderness Areas. While this segment is often remote and offers some challenges, it is still a moderately easy trail due to the fact that there are no large elevation changes such as would be experienced in a more mountainous area. Farther west in the state, the fourth certified segment is located in Brule River State Forest—near Solon Springs. Beginning at Douglas County Highway A, just east of the junction with Highway P, the trail progresses northeasterly for 4.2 miles. The first 2.1 miles is along a historic portage that has been used for hundreds of years. Along this portion eight commemorative stones name the early explorers, traders, and others who passed through the area.

I’m trying to figure out which cache it might be- the news says “near the waterline in Voyageur Park”. From what I can tell, it must be this one (archived for a different reason): GCP5NR

Adam n Michelle seem to think so too in their log.

Horseshoe Hideaway (GCGMGG) is on an island off of the coast of Peninsula State Park in Door County.

Have you ever bought from Gilsson Tech? I bought a combo cord from them and it works great…plus was way cheaper than the Garmin one they wanted $35 for at Gander Mountain & Scheels.

I’ve had a lot of mine turn up MIA. It’s too bad and everything, but not that big of a deal. A little perspective- wars, tsunamis, or a missing piece of metal? I’ll take the missing TB any day. I re-released two of mine that went missing using their copy tag.

Anyway, I’m very guilty of holding them too long right now. I picked up a few in November and haven’t gotten around to dropping them off because it’s just too cold, too snowy, and I’m too busy. With all the snow, I don’t want to make a trail going to caches. And I don’t want to have to dig them up. So I feel bad about it, but I still have them sitting on my shelf and I do have every intention of getting them back out there. Fun4Me had a bad, bad record with logging bugs in and out- but they do tend to get moved and logged eventually.

I have 8 released…as far as I can tell, 7 are still going. Well, somewhat recently anyway. One’s been held for over a month but the person has been on the website more recently so I don’t know if it was lost or if they just haven’t gotten out to drop it yet. The person is a longtime cacher who’s moved a number of TBs though so I have more faith in him than I would otherwise have.

One of my Tbs made it to Shawano, then was picked up and never heard from again. The holder has an unverified e-mail on the site and hasn’t logged in forever. I believe she just got into it for a week or so then quit.

Then there’s my little Simon. That one was in a cache in Shiocton that was washed away in the floods this spring. I gave up on it, sad that it had only gone 18 miles before being swept away. I marked it as in an unknown location, then three months later someone happened to find the entire cache 10 miles from Shiocton. Wow. This person created an account to let me know and placed it near Keshena with directions to find it (not coords because the person isn’t a geocacher).

“Really I’m not lost”- who I’m very grateful to for this- was nice enough to go up there and rescue the cache/Simon. He’s gone almost 300 miles since then and is now in a cache in northern Wisconsin.

in reply to: Logging your own cache?! #1747640

I think I may hae seen the same one, Miata. I don’t log my own as finds because I didn’t have to look for it- just for a place to put it. I also don’t get people returning to a cache and marking it as a find again. I only find caches one time. If I return (even if I need the GPS to find it again)- it’s a note.

I was seeing a few on end racks at BlockBuster Video stores…Target and ShopKo are always good for clearancing stuff out.

I guess in my car I should add I also have my charger so I don’t use up battery while I’m driving and a state gazateer book. My old one is all marked up with little dots of where caches are hidden.

We *may* end up not coming at all- I was going to meet my mom at our cabin on the weekend prior to the picnic, but my cousin and uncle and some of their friends are going to be there working on it that weekend so we have to figure out another weekend that will work. My mom suggested the picnic weekend, I told her what’s going on that weekend but if it’s the only time she can make it, I’m going to have to choose seeing her over the picnic.

I’ll post when the plans are figured out, but it may be safest to go ahead and not incluse us in the reservations if I don’t know by then. If that’s the case, I’ll just call down there and see what they have available and mention I’m with the group if they can get us in a nearby site. The campground can’t be all that big I don’t think.

Ummm…I bring the GPS, a pen, my keys, and my cell phone…and, if I have any at the time, Travel Bugs.

I don’t get why their rates page on their website says $13/adult though… Is the $15 figure with electricity? The two of us won’t be needing water or electric- just a place to toss up a tent.

I’m not 100% sure on what we’re doing yet in terms of one or two nights and whatever else. I’ll let you know in the next few days.
