Most campgrounds will require a two night stay on a weekend and three nights on a holiday weekend. I have found, however, that if you just show up (or call and ask), they are a lot more likely to allow you one day only. If they have open sites, they aen’t going to turn you away. They just prefer a weekend stay. Tim and I have this problem all the time because I work Fridays until around 9 pm and he works at 8 am on Monday. That leaves us really only being able to camp Saturday nights and we have more than once paid for two nights and stayed only one. State parks do this too.

I have no problem leaving my stuff. Tim gets more worried about stuff like that than I do. We pack up our supplies- anything of more value- into the car during the day while we’re out but leave the tent and bedding. I don’t think you get a lot of theft at campgrounds, really. Not especially at campgrounds like that.

Oh! We keep the cooler with us too. I don’t quite see the point of it- Tim worries about people taking our food I guess, not that we ever bring much with us.

I found another one in the area as well, but I can’t find a website of their own…The Wunder Er’de Campground. It’s listed on Wisconsinvacations.com. The description of it says:

A “Four Seasons” family campground striving for harmony, serenity, and tranquility. 1700 feet of Whalen’s Bay shoreline (access to Lake Wisconsin).

    N3204 CTH V
    Poynette, WI 53955
    608-635-2059

I’m still liking the Sky High one just because of what it says about a view and all that.

I’m thinking of taking off work and camping Friday night- otherwise we may have a difficult time making it to the picnic on time. I don’t know the area really, but was looking at Sky High Camping Resort ust cause they seem to be one of the closer ones (with a website anyway….). It’s in Portage- not sure how close that really actually is, but it’s gotta be closer than Appleton! It says $13/adult so pretty reasonable.

Anyone in the area know of any campgrounds that may be better/closer?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!! Yay! Swimmin’ Simon has been rescued! You guys are the best!

Linus4Cache- I know exactly where the raft place it- coordinates are always nice to get you there if you don’t know though. The guy gave me basically a location (the office) and a radius (100 feet).

Basically all that needs to be done is to go to the office there where they do raft rentals and look in a 100 foot radius around that. That’s how this guy hid it for me- I think he must have wanted to leave a little challenge to retrieving it. He also said the owner, Ralph Lyons, knows where it is and could point it out.

It’s probably a good half hour north of Shawano (past Keshena)- but it you could get it that would be great!

I don’t have any plans of my own to hide one there. Even with permission I wonder if there ae rules about reservations? There seem to be none other than virtuals on them. It would be kind of cool to rehide it up there and give it a similar name to the original one though.

The cache itself never was mine so I have no idea what to do about that. I suppose it would be a good idea to pick it up so it’s not just left there. I don’t know what to do with it though. The owner seems to no longer be “playing” anymore.

It is- the guy’s email said he picked it up 10 miles from Shiocton (which was where it started). He must have been in the area and found it, then took it home with him. I’m not sure, but I know it didn’t float up to Keshena!

Yes, it is on the Menomonee Reservation. I don’t know what rules and such are in place about that, but the guy isn’t a cacher- just a nice person saving my bug Plus he’s gotten permission to place it there from the owner of the Big Smokey Falls raft place. Only problem is that it’s without coordinates.

Amazing about the whole container lasting, huh? It was damp one when I found that cache too. I was sure Simon would’ve sunk. Maybe it just ended up on shore when the water receded.

Thanks for adding a map, Miata. There’s also a large wooden sign with red lettering a little bit before the falls. It’s actually a very pretty place- and fun watching the rafters go over the falls.

Hahaha- just from reading that hint I know where it is and I’ve never done it. That would be fun Lots of good stuff to see and do in that part of town anyway.

The Jeeps are numbered- their travel tag numbers are different than their Jeep numbers.

in reply to: Jeep Travel Bugs #1747279

I can easily see a LOT of the Jeeps coming up missing in the future. I’m sure there will be people who want to collect them as souvenirs, hoard them, and whatever else.

I wish I’d had the chance to drop the other ones I have, but car repairs kept me in Appleton last weekend. With the long weekend coming up, I’m headed to the Bayfield area and plan on getting rid of the rest on my way.

Every Jeep I placed is being held by someone. I think that may be a pretty common thing to tell the truth. I have three left to place (waiting to get up to the cabin to get them up by the Langlade area)- but the seven I did put out are all in the hands of different people. Their last logs range from June 12-26th.

I’m guessing lots of people want to have some fun with them- maybe for contest entries or whatever. If you look at the “Jeep4x4” profile and look through all 5001 Jeeps, the majority of them are being held by different people with between zero and very few miles on them.

Wow- I’ve never been in an earthquake (well, one little one in Flagstaff when I lived there but it was small and during the night- I slept through it).

There was a bigger one in Alaska at about the same time this morning.

I never get to be in any good natural events. Even all the tornadoes here last Friday night- I was in Oshkosh and missed out on everything around Appleton. So I’ve never seen a tornado either…

You took you’re GPS with the bathroom with you? Hee hee.

Sorry- I don’t know much about different GPS units- just reading through. We use a Garmin 12. I like it- nothing fancy but it does the job.
