Awesome! Thanks for visiting the cache. Glad you found it this time around for the 1000 mark. Congrats.

Congrats. Was it at the Campout?

I would like to add, that last year Anne posted odds on winning with actually less tickets someplace. I don’t have time to search for it right now, but be assured your odds of winning are actually greater with us doing it this way. 😀

Actually, Laurell, I’m pretty sure my calculations were flawed. 😳 And it was based on the average cacher instead of the 50-cache super-cacher. But in any case, it will be a fun weekend regardless. 😀

Are there plans for “bonus” caches this year? For example, water caches, night caches, and the like?

Yes, I believe there are plans for more challenging water caches this year.

Yes, I plan to hide one night cache. I’m not sure if anyone else will.

There is a plan for a Wherigo (if I can figure out how to use the builder).

I enjoy the new format this year, however, not thrilled with only getting 5 tickets when I find all fifty again. 🙁 (my only complaint) Keep up the great work!!

Yes, this was a long-discussed debate. The committee’s reasoning for this change is that there is a greater number of teams planning to attend, and a longer time to find the caches. Almost everyone has the potential to find all 50. There’s only so much room in the ticket barrel. Also, with hundreds and hundreds of teams, it’s simply easier and less time-consuming for our volunteers to hand out tickets in the afternoon as people return before the raffle. Also, it takes away some of the “competition/race” mindset to portray a more overall friendly event.

Again, my personal plug is to try and have as many stamps in the caches as you can, I think to much “word sharing” went on last year. Ok, I will get off my soap box. I LOVE THIS EVENT!

Yes, everyone on the committee agrees with you. We try to have the majority of caches be small or regular size to accommodate stamps, but we also think it’s important to give cachers variety in both cache size and difficulty, and so certain micros or creative caches are the exception to the rule (like Stick-y Situation last year).

Question….. Would any teams that own a Garmin Oregon or Colorado or another GPSr device that can do Wherigo caches be willing to participate in a team Wherigo activity on Friday the 13th evening of the event?

I think setting one up would be awesome but trying to organize groups to do it might be problematic….might be best to let folks team up on their own…if people have an interest they will find a way.

Hmmm…. you could be right. I’ll keep brainstorming other ideas for Friday night.

Question….. Would any teams that own a Garmin Oregon or Colorado or another GPSr device that can do Wherigo caches be willing to participate in a team Wherigo activity on Friday the 13th evening of the event?

I’m planning to build a permanent Wherigo cache in West Bend, and I thought it would be nice for lots of teams to get the Wherigo experience (and icon) at the Friday Meet and Greet. I would love to have 4-5 groups of people at the starting point at 7 or 8 pm (or perhaps later for a “spookier” experience). I figure this cartridge will take about an hour to complete because it takes cachers all around Regner Park. Because there are many different points that must be visited around Regner, more than one group can depart at a time. I figured I would try to let each team in my group have a turn to hold the GPSr and read out loud the storyline that unfolds at each location so that they get a true Wherigo experience. There would be a physcial cache at the end that can be logged for the Wherigo icon.

Any interest (in helping me out)?

So to be clear, the caches are to be released around noon on Friday….registration begins at noon as well where I will get the stamp book. So if I wanted to I could find all 50 caches on Friday and hunt other non event caches / be all social on Saturday?

    Yes, this is correct. [:D]

We’re trying extended hours so that teams have more time to enjoy the city, socializing, and overall caching experience without feeling a mad frenzy to find all 50 in one day (unless they want to). Also, with many more teams expected to attend than last year, we think two days will ease the congestion at the 50 caches so that there aren’t too many “lines” at the caches.

If your team is interested in partnering up with a newbie team for the Ba$h for one or both days, please send me a Private Message with your team name and any information we would need to know.

in reply to: "Buddy System" for West Bend Cache Ba$h Poll #1927578

The 50 caches placed for the event will not require a boat. We do our best to make sure that the majority of teams have the potential to get all 50 caches. We try to make them family-friendly, although some might have long hikes with hilly terrain.

However, sometimes we place *bonus* caches in addition to the 50 for those who are more adventurous. Last year, we placed a couple water caches in spring, but the water level was so low in August that most people could just wade across the river to one or two. I’m not sure what’s in store this year yet. There has been talk of some bonus water caches again.

in reply to: Cache Ba$h 2010 looking for team-mates #1925872

The Cache Ba$h Committee is looking at setting up a possible “Buddy System” for caching teams who would like to cache with another team(s). Ideally, we’d pair up new teams with more experienced teams, or at least more local teams to help with navigation around the area. I’m still trying to figure out the details to make this concept work on such a large scale.

If anybody has a good workable idea for this system, email me. In the meantime, perhaps I’ll post a note on the cache page to gauge interest in this idea. For it to work, I need a good amount of experienced cachers volunteer.

    Thanks,

Congrats!!! Looks like I’ll need my monkey to go after that cache….

in reply to: New Challenge Caches.. #1921113

Cool. I added them to my Wisconsin Challenges Bookmark List.

Hmmm…the Busy Cacher challenge sounds like a good one for the Cache Ba$h … If you go to the Mega Event, and the after-party regular Event, you only need 5 more icons that day… Last year, we had a Regular, Unknown, and Letterbox as part of the 50. Plus extra Earthcaches and Multi-Caches (night cache). That’s 7! Maybe a Wherigo this year if I get ambitious?

in reply to: Suggestion for next BOD – a Volunteer Committee #1919830

To help you with this mission, I’d like to see a separate “Volunteer Opportunities” Topic that would appear perhaps after the General and Announcement Topics. That way, they’d at least be in one spot.
