  • Q: Does the WGA adequately represent the entire state?

A: I think the WGA does its best to attempt this, especially with the new “quadrant” formula to spread its events to four different areas of the state. Unfortunately, some regions have not seen a strong WGA presence for various reasons. When planning events, I would assume the board has to factor in such things as suitable facilities and more importantly, a strong showing of local volunteers. To rally more volunteering individuals in these areas, we really need to recruit them to the WGA and get them active and excited about this association.

Q: Does the WGA BOD adequately represent the entire state?

A: Geographically? No. Does it need to? It would be nice (says the girl from the overabundant southeast region). But I’d also argue that Board representation is more than location. It’s how you represent all members in general, and how you listen and respond to the concerns of the members in each region, and how you can contribute to the organization and geocaching in general, and the amount of time and effort you will put into your responsibilities.

in reply to: Milwaukee County Caches #1920243

Q: Milwaukee County Parks has clear guidelines that require a written form to be submitted prior to both cache placement and removal, as well as a 3-year limit on each cache. Does cache rescue violate these guidelines and what, if anything, should be done about caches that are over the 3-year limit? How would you respond to these questions if brought to you?

A: Well, Dean, I think Deejay just answered it all for you regarding Milwaukee County’s policy so I am going to leave that part alone. I guess we just needed to know the right person to ask. But why wasn’t the board able to help guide you to him? And who is in charge of updating the guidelines to make it available to all?!

I think this brings up a really good follow-up question:

How do you think the WGA can be a better source of information regarding specific cache hiding regulations?

On the board (unless there is large negative feedback about this idea), I would be willing to spearhead a project with willing WGA members to create a database under the “Hiding a Cache” category that would include updated cache hiding regulations, necessary submission forms, and contact information for EVERY Wisconsin County. I know that Washington County Parks want this (they were very angry to learn that geocaches were placed in Sandy Knoll without their permission), but I do not currently see a link for Washington County.

Yes, I know it may “upset the apple cart” and yes, it scares me that they’ll say NO and then what??! I’ve been there as a cache hider! But when I think about it, it’s also irresponsible to NOT ask permission. I think it’s crucial for the WGA to build and maintain strong relationships with various county and state park officials and for us to promote a positive image of geocaching so that we can continue to enjoy caching in the parks.

in reply to: Logging Temps at WGA run events #1919985

Q: As a board member, would you be willing to overturn the current rule and vote to allow logging of temporary caches on WGA event pages?

A: No. Not without a re-vote of the WGA general membership. On such a devastatingly polarized topic (yes, devastatingly!), I have to respect the majority vote, regardless of my own personal feelings. Personally, I don’t log temps, but I don’t care if other people do, and it doesn’t really bother me if people continue to log them on a “pseudo” site that allows it. In my humble opinion, life is too short to worry about what other people are logging or not logging.

This sounds fun… I’m definitely considering it. I’ve been wanting to visit the Apostle Islands for some time.

Printed cache pages with notes all over including in my truck, bedroom, desk drawers, etc. I don’t keep track of past solved coords and usually trash them over time which haunts me later.

yup… except mine are on random sheets of paper… and then months later, I don’t even know which coords go with which cache… I end up having to re-solve the puzzles. Oh well.

    Congrats! 😀

in reply to: To hootie or not to hootie #1916320

I prefer giving it away by yelling the hootie (generosity of spirit of course… 😉 …and well, I wanna get more caches!) But Jeremy prefers Finders Tree without even telling me he has a Finders Tree…. So usually I’ll be looking around, and suddenly I’ll see him standing around less active than he was before leading to the inevitable: “What? You found it, didn’t you?!” And his evil laugh: “Maybe.” And then I get to attempt the find while he watches the frustrated search with sadistic glee. 🙄

Those of you who are working on this series or who have completed it, how are you doing this one?

Geographically. It took 3 full days. I worked on the complete grid for my own satisfaction, visiting both hits and known misses. And then I did all the ships at the end.

in reply to: Where are your priorities? #1915868

Chores? What are those? Well, at least the Battleships are sunk. 😆

in reply to: New Battleship series #1915231

Awesome series! It’s great fun to have a challenge like this!

I only got 36 or 37 of them (No DNFs!) in a full day of caching yesterday with MikMac4 (during regular park hours). We figured out where all the ships are hiding, but we continued finding the misses anyway that were in our area of caching. I knew I wouldn’t be FTF, so it didn’t matter. A little bird told me Puzzler got the Final. Congrats to Puzzler. I’m super impressed!! Especially because they’re SO spread out!

I have family stuff today, but hopefully, I’ll manage another large chunk on Sunday ….. anyone interested in teaming up?

Actually, I didn’t know. I assumed that by 7:00 pm, you are lost in the woods.

Cool thread… I’m enjoying reading the stories. 😀

When I first started (and even now, occasionally), people thought I was PharmTeam’s daughter (nope, no relation). I just happen to be another pharmacist who had the same idea for a cacher name.
