    Some thoughts:

    – So it looks like Washington’s logo. Unless the Washington State Geocaching Association has a problem with this, why should we? This logo won the voting, so it was quite popular up until the similarity was discovered.

    – Is anyone going to be confused as to which state they are in due to the similarity? And if so, does that person possibly have other issues, such as a crank GPS?

    – The old logo has charm and history, and as PCFrog pointed out, it is already “known as the WGA logo”. The proposed updated version of the old logo received a notable number of votes. It would be interesting to see what the old version would look like if updated differently. As in, simply replace the old GPSr graphic with a new graphic in the same style but shaped as a modern GPSr. And maybe make the ammo can look a little better. (I know, these have been voted out. But as it stands, the one voted in is about to be altered, perhaps drastically, and in any event will no longer be the exact logo voted on)

    – I can’t find my favorite flashlight. Anyone seen it?

I think summer here was about a month long.

Winter lasted longer that scheduled. When summer finally hit, it was interrupted by a flood, at least around here. So, yeah. This summer was sort of a rip-off.

Although, if you’re into summer movies, this was a great summer, despite it being over too soon.

I use my iPod with a program called MacCaching, and it works great. It takes the Pocket Queries and places places the cache info in the “contacts” feature on my iPod by syncing through iTunes. The click-wheel works very well to quickly find any cache out of hundreds.

MacCaching is for Mac computers only I think, but it sounds similar to Cachemagnet mentioned by DCexplorer.

The GPS worked just fine last week, and has been sitting in it’s mount since. What could have possibly gone wrong?

That mount it was sitting in for a week… would that have been in a vehicle? Parked out in the sun?

Same thing with stickers. Especially if they are any way related to automotive supplies. 10 HP per sticker.

Just remember, with the boost from the stickers, ya better bolt a big wing on the back. Seriously, the the improved handling is remarkable!

Most point to the greed of Big Oil as a factor. And I suppose that is a factor, but the biggest factor, at least in my mind is the incompetence of the Bush/Cheney/Rove team. The occupation of Iraq is the major reason that the price of oil is high. Last week, oil prices reached a record high of over $135 a barrel. On March 19, 2003 — the day the Iraq war commenced — oil was trading at $36 a barrel.

You know, last week I ordered a pizza, and it took OVER AN HOUR to arrive. That darned President Bush!!!!

The only change was when I got home and logged onto the computer. I left one log instead of many. Gave me a little more time to unpack this morning.

But some people are into the sport of “Cache-Logging”. That is what is often missed, the fact that there are two separate sports: Geocaching and Cache-Logging. The hunt and the social aspects may or may not be important to Cache-Loggers. For some, the adventure, the fresh air, the hike, and the exercise all pale in comparison to honing the fine art of typing “FOUND IT 1of28 for today TFTC” over and over again.

The WGA CAN satisfy everyone, however. It would be simple. Create a website that allows any number of logs for any cache. The new web site’s database wouldn’t be populated with caches at all, it would simply be a logging facility. Anyone could log finds there at any time, including after an event. But really, anyone could log there at any time. One wouldn’t really even need to visit a cache. Rainy day got ya down? Just log 20 or so finds at wi-geologging dot com.

The WGA could benefit from gaining prestigious letters. It would become the WGAGLA (Wisconsin Geocaching and Geo-Logging Association). Remember, quantity of letters is at least as important as quantity of logs!

I think having the WGA Friend title versus having the WGA Member under my name gives people a false connotation. If I didn’t know any better, and I saw that a person was a WGA Friend, I’d think that they were just visiting not really serious about caching in Wisconsin.

    .

So is this mostly about the title? Or are you looking for voting rights, and/or the chance to run for BOD?

I don’t think anyone looks down on people with a “Friend” status. The fact that someone out of state registered and is reading the forum and posting says a lot. Clearly that person has an interest in caching in Wisconsin. Consider that the word “friend” usually has very positive connotations.

Then again, that title could easily be changed. But are MANY people unhappy with being Friends?

As far as running for BOD, only residents of WI should. Period. The BOD deals with various Wisconsin agencies. I get the gut feeling the Wisconsin DNR is more likely to take a Wisconsin resident seriously than someone from out of state.

Urine from a healthy human is a sterile liquid.

It contains urea. A major byproduct of the decomposition of urea is nitrogen, so urine is great for plant life. The surrounding foliage would benefit if you water it with the contents of the cache.

You may, however, wish to save the urine. It is handy in the production of gunpowder and preparing textiles for the dye process. Even if you have no need for home-made gunpowder and aren’t into textiles, you could do as the Romans did and use it to make toothpaste and mouthwash.

I’m not proposing that the WGA allows every non-resident to become a WGA Member versus a WGA friend. I’m suggesting keeping the present prerequisites in place (age and residency) but add a third qualification. And make it something that would be virtually impossible for a person to attain. Indicate that a non-resident would be considered for WGA membership if and only if they completed the WI Delorme Challenge or find 1000 caches in Wisconsin (1500, 2000, etc).

Congrats on the Delorme Challenge! Impressive 🙂

But I have to disagree with putting stringent requirements on out of state membership. The reason is quite simple: Anyone planning on caching enough in this state to want to join SHOULD be allowed to join. This is where that person can read about the current issues affecting Geocaching in the state. This is where he or she can ask questions and learn about general policy, and that is important for everyone, regardless of whether they find 10 caches within our borders or 1000. Membership for out of state cachers is therefore important, and should be encouraged.

Now, that said, I think it would be in perfectly good form to recognize out of state members who DO have significant accomplishments in this state. Lagrac’s completion of the Delorme Challenge is a respectable point of interest, and you won’t see it happen very often. But limiting membership is not in the line of goodness.

I agree that logs should be signed.

But, just for the fun of it…

Suppose last night I watched “ZARDOZ” staring Sean Connery, and didn’t particularly enjoy it. I stayed up late and wasted my time, so now I am a bit peeved at Sean Connery. Today, I find a cache, and flipping through the log, I see that Sean Connery found it a couple weeks ago. I am tired, grumpy, and still have it out for Sean Connery, so I tear the page out of the log, leaving no written record of Sean Connery’s visit.

Two weeks later, the cache owner audits the log. Mr. Connery’s visit is not in the logbook… What happens next?

in reply to: Phone a Friend #1877978

My caches (one regular and one virtual) were hidden to be found. I truly hope that anyone who hunts them finds them. So If someone can’t find one, I certainly don’t care if they call for help. I would much rather they call than destroy the area trying to find it.

And, consider this. Using the phone-a-friend feature is hardly any more shady than caching in a group with one or more members who have already found a cache. Indeed, just about any time a group hunts a cache, only one person truly “finds” the cache. The others in the group are on a free ride once it is found. So which is worse? Caching in a group, or getting a few extra clues on the phone? (My answer: Neither. Everyone enjoys playing differently, and that is just fine!)

I have one I would be willing to trade, not activated, never removed from sleeve. So If you want to trade just one, let me know.
