Is this quote copyrighted? May I use it with your permission. I think it will bring joy to others.

Funny you should ask. You may use it, but be aware that I may use the topic or sentence in a future book. That said, PLEASE use it. Very few people deal with the Hammer Paradox effectively…

SO, if it is difficult to log finds on gc dot com on Sundays due to high traffic, why not log on different days? Wednesday evening perhaps? The site is quite usable most of the time. There is only a problem if you feel the need to participate in the mob during the peak day at the peak hours.

It’s like this: It hitting yourself in the head with a hammer hurts, and you feel pain each time you hit yourself in the head with the hammer, consider NOT hitting yourself in the head with the hammer.

Another example: If you dislike the charring and blistering that is evident after putting your hand in the camp fire, stop putting your hand in there. Maybe put your hand in a bucket of 72 degree water instead.

Just use TubeSock. It can download vids from YouTube as well as a few other similar sites. It will also convert them to MP4 or H.264 for you.

in reply to: How many in a day? #1871717

When I go caching, my goal is to NOT find more than about 6-8 caches. There could be exceptions to this rule, but seriously, I want my geocaching to involve some nice hikes or jogs, and to take me to new areas that I would like to explore. My best caching day involved ONE find. I found the cache, and hiked the area for about 4 hours after. The other caches I had planned for the day waited for another day 🙂

Although I certainly don’t mind hitting a few park’n’grabs located on the way to some more serious caches, my sincere hope on any day I decide to go geocaching is that my hunts are interesting enough that I remember each individual one… for a long time. This is why I would consider a 20, 30, 50, or 100 cache day to be a complete and utter failure.

    Hmmm.

This topic is making me re-think my next cache. I was planning on it being a round, pink container, roughly the size of a hockey puck. The idea was to hide it indoors. In the restroom, actually, at the bottom of… oh, never mind. If reaching into a trash can is an issue with some of you, my urinal caches would probably not go over well.

    I believe I have a workable translation:

I am not a looser thread!! I do wish another person would have made it!!
“Congratulations to all newly elected members of the Board! There were many good candidates, and it was a hard-fought campaign!”

I STAND my ground and HOPE that the WGA will work with ALL!!!!!!! STATE , COUNTY, CITY Parks on PLACEING CACHES!!! MOST ARE NOT KNOWN by the PARK & REC!!!
I hope that the new Board will work with State, County and City park managers to educate and increase awareness of this wonderful sport that can only increase the usage and popularity of their facilities. As we know, many caches are placed without notifying said managers, perhaps due to fear of rejection.

Can you give me your superviser or else name for placeing your cache??
TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER!!!! (?) (Translation may be off)

I would like to see ALL Members give the name of who they had permission from!!
Did you ask permission placing your last cache?

I can give mine but I need yours.
I’ll show you mine if you show me YOURS. (?)

We need a list of PLACES in the state that accept GEOCACHING!! I worked for over 6 months for placeing a cache in Genesse Depot and still have to waite till spring! I have permission for one park in spring till they see what it will do to their park!! DOUBT ME!!! Contact Ron Hill @ [email protected]. I do not place caches with out Land Owner Permission other than PARK & Rides, and rest areas. I will delete them if needed!
It would be just SPLENDID if the WGA could formulate and maintain a list of areas in which Geocaching is welcome, along with pertinent information such as who to contact, etc. This would save much grief for cachers such as myself who, in good faith, religiously seek permission prior to placing new caches. Ron Hill can vouch for my sincerity in this matter.

PLEASE!! IF you can ADD Park & rec INFO!! Lets help others PLACE caches with the OK!!
PLEASE, i beg of you, new Board of Directors: Let us establish said list! It will be of benefit to all for years to come!

    See your local P&R
Visit your local Parks and Recreation manager!

    ***** End of Translation *****

Ok, that is my best guess. I am not a translator by trade, so correct me if i am wrong 🙂

Count me in if there is still room. I live in Janesville, and have ventured south of the border in the past, and cetrainly will do so more in the near future.

For Motto, I like Team Honeybunnies “Thanks for visiting, now leave” suggestion 🙂

If you are just looking to take the graphic off the pdf image, the easiest thing to do may be to get a screen capture program. With this type of program you can select an area of your screen and save it as a picture file (JPEG, Bitmap, whatever). This would probably work for what you are describing. I use snag it, but it was preloaded on my work pc…I don’t believe it is free. There is free screen grab software out there, but I can’t really vouch for any of them.

On a PC you can capture a screen by simply hitting the PRINT SCREEN key. The screen capture is copied to the clipboard and may then be pasted to your favorite image manipulation program.

If you have a MAC running OSX, Cmd+Shift+3 Captures the screen and the automatically saves it as a file on your desktop. Or you can use Cmd+Shift+4 instead, which turns your mouse pointer into these cool crosshairs, and lets you select what portion of the screen you want to capture. BTW, on a Mac, .pdf is one of the operating system’s “native” formats, so you can usually generate .pdf files without any extra software (I believe this question evolved from a question about conversion to pdf).

    Summary: Macs just work 🙂

This debate is, oh, SO old (I swear it started a day after the first WGA camp-out).

I think it is ironic that logging an event, which really isn’t a cache, is ok and accommodated on GC, is acceptable, but logging the caches associated with the event (which are true caches) is not.

I’ve never been a numbers person, and for the last event I attended (in 2003 I think) I stopped logging temps. Part of me says “who cares”, and part of me says “darn it, those temps were higher quality than 75% of the permanent caches listed”. And even if the numbers don’t mean much to me, it IS fun to watch them rise 🙂

I remember after certain early events, a select few temp caches were made permanent caches. I this still done? If not, perhaps it should. I am thinking back to some great caches at events like the camp-out at Governor Dodge State Park. Almost any hide there was enough to put your average listed cache to shame. And I think 4 became permanent caches. This type of practice would allow the happy medium where everyone could log one attend for the event, and log a few standard finds without “guilt” and without ruffling the feathers of some disgruntled forum-junkie that has never attended a WGA event 😈

Personally, I like reading the posts of those chronic complainers, imagining some guy staring at his monitor, scanning WI event logs, turning red, getting all jittery, his blood-pressure increasing to dreadful levels… all because he can’t understand the concept of MYOB… heheheheh

I’ve been reading them daily. It gives me a wonderful insite on the issues that have become hot topics over the past several years since I “left”.

    Hey… thanks for the warm re-welcome 🙂

Dusted off the old Magellan. Oddly, it rattles when i shake it, probably not a good sign. But it works, so I went out and hit 6 local caches over two days. I’m pacing myself. Re-training, sorta. Had a great time, and plan on hitting more next weekend.

I’m not certain about the camp-out. I’m usually off Sundays and Mondays these days, but I have some control over that. Would love to go, at least for the main day. We’ll see…

Man, everyone os so far ahead of me now. Looks like I have some caching to do if I ever want to catch up 😳

Should Geocachers as a whole, carry a “sharpie” along with them, and as we find caches that are not labeled simply write “Geocache” on them? It would seem that something as simple as this might have prevented the NFDL incident.

Obviously some common sense will be required but many of the caches out there could be quickly and easily labeled and therefore more readily identified.

So, what happens when the guys planting actual pipe bombs start labeling them with the words “Official Geocache”?
