I liked the puzzle one. The Riddler was one of my favorite villains from the Batman comics

Just voted. Our Rick is down by around 200 votes. But if the late night votes goes on as planned, we should be back up right there.

I wonder though if someone should write a letter to Steele’s superintendent. Then again, he’s probably helping with the campaign 😐

Micros in the woods are one thing…but when there is a micro inside a cluster of pine trees standing together is another thing…I just walk away from those. A bison tube hanging in one of three or four pine trees standing together is most definitely a needle in a haystack hide…and even worse when the cache page rates it as a D1.5 😐

Don’t forget LighthouseNuts’ Top Spot series. They take me to rural roads that I otherwise would not drive on. Seeing the scenery on those rural roads are awesome. I don’t mind roadside micros like this.

Now if you were to complain about a micro in the woods where there is room for an ammo box, that’s a different subject altogether. I DNF’ed two micros in the woods today and both were in areas where there were also room to place a regular size container or at least a small one.

I’ve been a fan myself since I was 12 in 1978…my dad got excited after several years of losing that the Packers were winning again and got me hooked…even though the 1978 season was a flash in the pan and they went back to losers until a certain #4 came along, I still was a Packer fan thick and through and I know Rick is as well.

This other guy is just a bandwagon jumper and only doing it to get into his girlfriend’s pants.

Come on, Rick. We’ll get you in 🙂

I contacted my local paper since Rick is originally from my area. Hopefully they write something up and get the hometown votes. At the time I voted, about a half hour ago, Rick was 18 down at 1470.

Rick was 989..the other guy had 988..gonna be a close race..I just promoted this on my facebook..hopefully that helps

    in reply to: Munzee #1950739

Exactly. Log writing is one of my favorite parts of geocaching along with a nice hike in the woods followed by finding creative well hidden geocaches.

Munzees is just for the numbers. No fun in that. TFTC loggers should go do munzees because then they won’t even have to write “TFTC” at all. Just scan and go.

    in reply to: Munzee #1950736

I’m not completely sold on Munzees.

I knew about this months ago but never bothered with them despite having an android phone.

Then I received a log some time ago from one of my caches that said something like “Was out looking for munzees and decided to grab this cache that was nearby.”

I didn’t realize my area had munzees so I made an account and sho’ ’nuff there are about a dozen munzees in the area.

So I decided to go get one today just to see what it is like. As it turns out, it was just less than 30 feet from a geocache. Thankfully the munzee itself was only a laminated QR code hung from a tree and was marked as a munzee, not a geocache. I scanned it and left.

But it made me think – what is to prevent new geocachers from confusing munzees with actual geocaches if they are placed close together?

Then again, I’ve already seen it happen with Letterboxing as many letterboxes are near caches as well but at least letterboxing has been around for a long time, even before geocaching I believe.

I’ve accidentally found a letterbox a couple times thinking it was a cache. One letterbox was just 30 feet away from the cache itself.

I feel the same will happen with Munzees. Newbies may end up confusing the two.

Hopefully Munzees are just a passing fad and will eventually disappear with time. The only reason I’m even finding them in my immediate area is so I am aware of their locations so that if I want to place a cache, I know to put it far enough away from the munzee to avoid confusement.

But I won’t be actually be playing munzee just to play munzee. As someone said, it’s a lazy man’s geocaching game and it’s for the numbers too. And I’m not a numbers person.

u can buy lifetime maps for around $80 they had a sale before chirstmas for $59

That a fact? I was at the W store and saw a lifetime updates card for $100 or so. I thought for that kinda money, might as well buy a new device.

My Nuvi is on its last legs anyways. Power switch is broken. The only way I can turn it on is to plug it in the charger. To turn it off, I unplug it from the charger and either press the button that says “Turn off unit? Yes” or just let it count down the 30 seconds for it to shut itself down when unplugged.

    in reply to: geogifts #1955536

I can’t wait for my Nuvi 205 to die so I can have an excuse to get a new Nuvi with free lifetime updates. My maps don’t have the Peshtigo and Oconto bypasses on it as well as other recent construction work.

Maybe I can “accidentally” leave the Nuvi on the roof of the car, have it fall off when I pull away, then “accidentally” run over it lol

in reply to: Wherigo For Android #1953869

    Becca,

I have a non-Android phone that uses the same battery as my Android phone. So I charge that non-Android phone in the car while I use the Wherigo app on my Android phone.

If the battery gets low, just a matter of saving my progress, go back to my car, swap out the batteries, and continue with the wherigo app.

In most cases, a fully charged battery should be able to handle an hour’s worth of using the app if not more, depending on the phone model.

So as long as the wherigo cache in question is not one that is super long and extensive, you should be able to handle it easily on one full charge.

Otherwise, see if you have a friend with an old phone that uses the same battery as your current phone so you can swap out batteries if needed and not miss a beat – or –

Buy an extra battery if you have no spare phone. Charge both batteries in your android phone before you set out in the field and then carry the spare battery in your pocket so it’s just a matter of saving your progress then a quick swap in the field if the first battery gets low.

    Hope this helps.

Why bother caring about if someone signs the physical log?

I’ve never deleted another cacher’s online log. It’s not my find count and it doesn’t affect the cache at all. In fact, if someone chooses not to log it just means the log has more room for others who do sign each find.

    Exactly. Especially for nanos.

in reply to: What will kill the game #1947267

I can probably understand a deletion if you spot it a day or two after the “find”. I would do the same.

    But…

If you delete logs of “finds” that were made weeks ago, that can mess up the stats of a cacher.

I found a cache that was 1/1. As it turned out, it was not wheelchair accessible. So I made a mention of that in the log and suggested a T1.5 rating. Later that week, I continued my run and got a milestone – only for the CO of that 1/1 cache to delete my log because he didn’t like my suggestion. I missed the deletion notice and when I put in the “My Finds” query into GSAK, a different cache was recorded as the milestone.

I was pissed. I went back into my e-mail and found the deletion notice (I had a lot of notifications that day).

So I went back and re-logged the find of that “1/1” cache with a simple “TFTC” on the date I found it. That log stayed up. Downloaded a query for that area since “My Finds” was already downloaded. Imported it into GSAK and my milestones were back in order again.

So keep that in mind if you decide to delete a log that was made weeks ago.

Everyone should remember everyone plays the game their own way.

If OPS wants to archive all his caches because of one too many TFTC’s, that’s fine.

If Codejunkie wants to delete logs off an archived cache because the name wasn’t on the physical cache, that’s fine.

If I want to pull my cemetery caches because I don’t think a cemetery should be a geocaching playground, that’s my right too.

Every CO can do what he wants with his caches so as long as it follows groundspeak guidelines.

While cut and paste and TFTC logs are annoying, they don’t bother me and I’m not gonna pull my caches if I get a run of TFTC’s in my notifications.

But I also respect OPS’ decision to archive all his caches because of the TFTC’s in the logs. It is his right and all it means is someone else will place a cache in that area.

    Cache on.
