And y’all know about my experience with the Ashwaubenon LEO’s with that bomb scare last year. That experience still has soured me on urban caching.

I’ll still look for urban caches, but not as much as I used to. I would drive to the location and if it is too high traffic, I simply drive away. And if I do make an effort to look in a high traffic area, I give it a minute or two tops and I’m gone. Caches in a high traffic area should be set up for a quick grab, not for someone to spend 10 minutes looking for it. Just my opinion.

Too bad. My weekend to work. Otherwise this sounds like fun.

Took me more than a half hour just to log 10 caches. sighs. So I did some Facebooking while waiting for each cache page to load.

Unable to access using Opera Mini 5.1 on my phone via Sprint PCS.

I see y’all need to fix your sigs. I see the codings for the sigs instead of the sigs themselves.

I’m not a fan of puzzle caches myself. Of my 756 finds, just 31 were puzzle caches and the majority of them were field solves, meaning I gather information at markers like in a cemetery then off to the final.

Unless it is an easy solve, I don’t relish the idea of sitting at a computer for hours trying to solve just one puzzle. Not my thing.

As for pocket querys, I basically filter out puzzles if I’m in a puzzle dense area like Appleton. I do the same on GSAK when loading the GPS.

I’m not fond of crowds either. Unless the event is small, I probably won’t be attending events this year as well.

I think this is called churning.

Way to go. Glad I was with you on a few of those. Nice job.

in reply to: GSAK Question #1928021

My bad..I think I meant to type 7.7.1.52 or something like that but anyways, I never upgrade my software unless there’s a new feature I want. Since my current version works fine, no reason to change anything specially since I’ve read that some older GSAK macros do not work with the current version of GSAK such as the Nuvi macro. So I’ll stick with what I have. Thanks.

in reply to: GSAK Question #1928016

Didn’t want to start a new thread for a simple GSAK question so my question is this – I’m running 7.7.0. I just fired it up for the first time since last November. I see it tells me that latest version is 7.7.52.

I’m happy with what I have so will the latest version give me a reason to update or should I just continue to stick with my current version?

Picasa is another free photo editing software. But I use Photofiltre, which is also free. You can Bing both softwares for the links.

I got no problems with local lawmakers banning caches from certain areas such as cemeteries, rest stops, etc. If they want to do that, that’s their right as lawmakers to do so. There are plenty of other areas to cache in.

I’m not about to do letter writing campaigns to request a law or ordinance to be lifted in certain areas. I’ll just respect the law and go elsewhere. But that’s just me. To each his own.

The point is – not every cemeteries, rest stops, P & R, guardrails or lamp posts need to have a cache. Personally, I think it is a waste of time to try and get a law or ordinance lifted because the requests will most likely fall on deaf ears.

in reply to: Goals for 2011 #1941180

    2011 Goals:

    1) Get all 13 counties in Michigan’s UP. Not likely to happen, but I might be able to get a few more. I think I got half the UP right now.

    2) Do a solo numbers run and beat my record of 48 finds in a day. I think 75 is doable if I go to a cache dense place like West Bend. I’m not otherwise a numbers guy. It’s all about quality, not quantity for me. But just once, I want to do a power run like that.

    3) Get my 1000th find. I have 752 as of this post. If I do the numbers run as mentioned previously, that will help a lot. Otherwise, I doubt I’ll find 250 caches this year as I continue to clean up areas near me and will not travel far just for geocaching if gas prices remain high.

    4) Find a D5 cache by myself. Both of my D5 finds were found by someone in my geocaching party. I just signed the log, but I want to find a D5 myself.

    5) Geocache at Mackinac Island. Over 90 caches on the island. I’ll be happy to get half.

    That’s my goal for 2011.

Does every rest stop need a cache placed there?

And I’m not required to go out and find them in the snow.

Simply put, I don’t cache in the winter.
