I have seen sites change their layouts on a regular basis. Facebook, Google, yahoo, etc.
I’m used to change.
As for this one, I like this one except for the buttons on the top of the page should be easier to read. White on light brown is hard to read. My .02.
Just a couple inches here..not sticking to main roads as passing cars keep the snow from accumulating. But I’m sure it will get worse as day goes on.
Keep in mind that most guardrail caches are not winter friendly either.
Case in point – I went to look for an “easy” guardrail cache last year in Green Bay while my kids were X-mas shoppiing. This cache was in a parking lot – with a 30 foot high snowbank in front of the guardrail. Yeah right. So unless I wanted to get heavy equipment to clear that snowbank away from that guardrail, I walked away with a “DNA” (Did not attempt).
This past summer, I went back, got it with no problem – lol.
That’s my GPS. What do you need to know about it?
I can tell you it is a great starter GPS. It is accurate for the most part, except in heavy tree cover. Loading caches from GSAK is quite easy to do. It also gives you the option to mark your finds which I love. I no longer have to write down the GC code of caches that I find. I just refer to the GPS when I get home to log my finds.
Entering manual waypoints such as stages in a multi cache is a snap.
Anything else you need to know, feel free to ask. I paid about $120 for it at Walmart last year so not a bad deal for what it does.
Things that come once a year…
1) Thanksgiving
2) Christmas
3) Halloween
4) A victory by the Detroit Lions
I’m not sure anymore if cemeteries are appropriate for geocaching, which is why I pulled mine, but to each his own.
I know this is of no help, but I’d thought I mention that I have a Garmin Etrex Venture HC. I love it and I have no problems sending caches to it via GSAK.
I filter what I want to find on GSAK then use it to send up to 500 waypoints to the device though I usually send like 420-450 waypoints so that I have room in the device to enter manual waypoints.
I’m not sure how the Legend is set up, but I’ll say this – I love Garmin and will not even consider getting another brand of GPS when I’m ready to upgrade.
I’m good with Trig and know a bit of Calc also.
Wow. I didn’t realize that this would become an interesting topic to discuss when I posted it. I rather enjoyed reading all the different perspectives on this subject.
I know I will never get the WRC for the simple reasons that I don’t have the equipment to do T5’s and there are not any D5’s near me. If I go after a D5 out of town and walk away with a DNF, most likely I won’t be back for another shot unless I’m back in that area for another reason.
Thank you all for posting your thoughts on this subject. – Todd
Safe caching via urban hides or woods where hunters are not allowed such as a city park.
Many of you know me to write nice logs for every cache I find, even for the simple park and grabs. I also make an effort to re-hide each cache just as good or better than I find it.
There has been occasions where I would find caches exposed in the open so I would make sure I would re-hide it better. I might even make a minor repair now and then such as replacing a wet or full log.
I don’t think the CAR applies in my case as I have just 3 active caches compared to the 740+ caches I’ve found – lol.
My stat bar below says 17 hides, but 14 are archived. I think Groundspeak needs to fix that.
I spoke too soon. I heard back from the Ashwaubenon Police today while I was at work. They said that they showed my statement to the Cormier School principal. She said that after she read my statement, she will not be pressing charges.
I was thinking to myself, “Wow, you mean they were considering charges in the first place?”
The officer then thanked me for my cooperation and told me the case is closed and I will not be hearing from him again.
I’ll say this – if they DID indeed go ahead and press charges on me, I would have fought tooth and nail to prove I did not do anything wrong, but I’m glad it didn’t have to come to that. I’m sure TKKS also is relieved that this case is over as well.
DeputyDog, I’ll take you up on that offer to go on an urban run. We just have to pick a day to do it. I have a busy week ahead of me so not sure when I’ll be out caching again. I’ll let you know.
As S|S said, this thread has about run its course – at least until the next incident, which is most likely to happen.
But I do want to hear from the Green Bay Metro area geocachers if they have started any dialogue with the Green Bay Metro area police departments and get them informed about geocaching.
I don’t mind explaining to a cop if one stops me while geocaching, but it is a whole lot easier to explain to a cop what I’m doing if he knows about geocaching. If a cop has no frickin’ clue what geocaching is, then it gets tougher. I know some of you have been detained or arrested by such cops and if we can get the word out, we can prevent that.
Perhaps a new thread can be started on any progress of any dialogue between the geocaching community and the local LEO’s not just in Green Bay, but in other communities as well.
Again, thank you guys for having my back.

Still no word from the local LEO’s so I guess the case is closed.
If Gotta Run or anyone else did not post the bomb scare thread, I would not have known about it at all. But I’m sure I would have found out about it eventually.
Thanks to y’all for sticking up for me. Appreciate it. I’m still hesitant to do some urban caching, but eventually I’ll get over it.
“Chillin’ at Fort Howard” – I did that one before I did Cormier. It’s very possible I was spotted doing that one too. And that one had a freshly placed TB in it by a previous cacher only a couple days earlier. I saw it, but chose to leave it for another cacher as I’m already holding like 5-6 coins or TB’s that I have to move along yet. Now I wish I had grabbed it.
I’m still waiting to hear from the Ashwaubenon Police for one final follow up and once that’s done, I guess that’ll close the book on this case.
Well, I guess the media did not follow up on this story. It would be nice if they did. The articles from both the P-G and WBAY make me look like a criminal, which obviously I’m not.
