I actually prefer being in the woods anyways. Just me, myself and I along with nature. The only reason I do urban caches at all are for numbers.
Latest update: I heard back from the Ashwaubenon Police and they asked me to e-mail a statement about what happened on Tuesday and I did just that.
I described the incident and also explained what geocaching is and give them the link to geocaching.com. I also explained the cache has been there for over a year with over 90 finds.
As for archiving my own caches, I’m told I’m overreacting to this. Maybe. But at the moment, I’m not particular happy about all this and will be taking a break from geocaching for a while.
I retrieved my local cache containers today and will hit the road tomorrow afternoon to get the ones of town. The only ones that are still active are all in the woods with no muggles around.
Well, I archived all but 4 of my caches just now and that number will be down to 3 once I retrieve a container with 4 TB’s in it. That’ll leave just 3 active caches for me – all in the woods with no muggles. The archivals include all my cemetery caches as well.
I realize my area is not Ashwaubenon or Green Bay, but I’m still pissed over this situation and will not take any chances to have something like that happen here. If it does happen, at least it won’t be any of my caches in all likelihood.
As for me geocaching – I’m done in muggle city for the most part and will keep to the woods.
DeputyDog,
Thanks for sticking up for me in the Press Gazette article comments. Appreciate it.
I haven’t heard back from the police yet but it doesn’t mean I won’t.
I do know this – I’m done with urban caching and will stick to the woods. Yes my numbers will go down, but there is no doubt in mind this will happen again and I do not want to go through this again.
This incident has pretty much soured me on geocaching. I went to Iron Mountain today for a bowling coaches meeting, but even though I downloaded a PQ, I didn’t bother to load the GPS. I went to the meeting and went back home. I wasn’t in the mood to go goecaching period.
I will be following TKKS’s lead and will be archiving my caches that are in muggle city. This includes most of my cemetery caches. I have a few caches in the woods that will remain. But otherwise, I will archive the others and have also canceled my plans to put out a couple caches at a park right by me.
All right. I went to my local cop shop in Marinette and did my statement. I went to them not only so I would not have to drive back to Green Bay but because the Marinette Police is very aware of geocaching. In fact, they have a cache of their own right in front of the cop shop ( GC16YKR ).
So it was easy for me to explain what I did yesterday. How I found the cache, what I was wearing, etc. They took a photo of me and then sent all the information to the Green Bay Police Department. Then I left the station. They said they’d contact me if they had any questions, but I’m sure I heard the last from them.
Sorry, TKKS, for all the trouble I’ve caused you yesterday.
I’ll keep everyone posted.

I’m heading over to my local cop shop in a few minutes so they don’t have to come to me – lol. I’ll let you guys know how it goes.
Gee. That “suspicious” male was me. The cache was not exactly on school ground but at a ball field next to the school. Looks like TKKS will have to call them and explain the placement.
I apologize if I scared anyone, but I would have thought the cache was known in the neighborhood after 93 previous finds.
All it says in a cache page is “Bring along a pen or pencil”
That’s it???
No cache description? No container type? No hint? I mean..C’mon!
I’m not one to travel far for events. I think the furthest I’ve traveled was to Presque Isle in Marquette, which is 2 hours for me.
Mega Events are not my cup of tea so I always avoid events like the West Bend Cache Bash. I would rather go to the small events with like 20-30 cachers attending.
Because I live near Lake Michigan, I often get notifications of events located like 200 miles across the lake, but it would take more than 6 hours to get there as I would drive up in the UP then down the LP. No thanks.
I’m another that don’t log “Walk away without a serious search”.
And if I’m team caching, sometimes I let my teammate log the DNF as he would speak for both of us.
But otherwise, I do try and log my DNF’s when possible.
That happened to me once, Barry. I once posted a log saying the cache terrain rating should be a 1.5, not a 1 since it was a drive up, but not wheelchair accessible. I then downloaded the “My Finds” PQ.
The CO got pissed and deleted my log. I re-posted my log with a cut and paste “TFTC”. Then downloaded another “My Finds” PQ. The result was 2 finds for that one cache in my database. I ended up deleting that database and making a whole new one so my stats would be accurate.
I figure we can use this thread as a general GSAK help thread for those of us that don’t wanna go to the GSAK forum on its website – lol.
My question is – how can I copy individual caches from one database to another?

In getting ready for a Southern Kettle Moraine caching trip I found myself reading the web page for the Ice Age Vista GC684 cache. It says it’s Wisconsin’s 8th oldest active cache. Was wondering if a list exists somewhere of Wisconnie’s other oldest caches!
If you are going there, you definitely need to do the Pike Powder Hike ( GC3B1 ) which is Wisconsin’s oldest cache. Well worth the visit and there a few other caches in that park as well.
Not going to Rhinelander this weekend. A number of issues came up that I gotta take care of. Doubt I’ll go there in the future as the only reason I was gonna go was to see my local high school football team play there.
Good luck to all the cachers that was gonna cache there this weekend.
