Sometimes I wonder that when someone logs a cache as “TFTC”, did they really visit that cache or are they just armchair logging for the smileys? I have no proof of that unless I visit the cache to see if that cacher actually signed the log.

I’m not saying that every “TFTC” log is a fake log, but I do have the feeling that some are.

As for the “TFTC”‘s themselves, that’s a discussion for another day.

I read a newspaper article about geocaching. I already had a pocket PC and knew it was compatible with a bluetooth GPS receiver mainly for road navigation. I thought it would work for geocaching as well, so I did some research on geocaching software, downloaded some demos and shareware, ordered the bluetooth GPSr cheap on clearance for $30 and gave it a try.

Later I upgraded to an actual GPSr, my Garmin Venture HC.

My area does not have many caches (maybe about 60 some caches in a 10 mile radius from my home coords), so I often have to travel to geocache. But I enjoy it each time out.

So Gary Coleman passed away the other day. He had a very short life.

I hear he died of an aneurysm, which is kind of like a stroke, only different.

And unlike other people, he’ll be buried 3 feet under instead of 6 feet.

If you are up for a day of hiking and want to get a whole bunch of caches on one trail, Ed’s Lake near Wabeno has 11 caches on one trail and it can be done in about 2 hours. I went there on Halloween with Sweetlife and we had a blast finding them all. Recommend to do in fall and spring as the park will be thick with skeeters and ticks in the summer.

Start of the trail is at GC1X5D0 and go from there. $5 fee to use the trail though certain passes are also accepted.

Below are my smileys. As you can see, it is practically a circle around the trail.

Edit: Since I visited there, 4 new caches have been placed that I did not get. They are not on this outdated map.

Ticks don’t bother me. Skeeters do.

Not going to Roche A Cri. Green Bay Packer home football game weekend.

And yeah, DJ, I know it’s a short drive..but still gonna stay home anyways.

I have a hide here in town near a lamp post but not in it though I did also put a decoy in the lamp post. Just about every log posted on this cache said they fell for the decoy before finding the real cache.

Goes to show the predictability of LPC’s.

They may be boring, but great for a confidence booster after a string of DNF’s

    Keep those comments coming.

Exactly, LB7. The thread is not about the appropriateness of LPC’s but about finding them for the first time.

Thanks for getting the topic back on track 🙂

Thanks, Rick. Hope to run into you on the trails someday.

Bartrod, I hope to hit the 1K by the summer summer is over, but I think I’m as likely to find 1000 caches as Trevor Hoffman is to get 10 saves for the season 😛

Thanks again, everyone. I know my last couple milestones were nothing major compared to my 300th but it was still nice to get it done.

in reply to: Tood300 gets his his #600 #1929376

Thanks. It was nice to get the 600 out of the way.

Everytime I plan to get the milestone, something happens to delay that.

I had it planned to do a numbers run on a 3 day blast through Appleton, Oshkosh and Neenah back in April 23 or so. But a combination of illness and bad weather prevented that.

Then I was supposed to do it at the Mascoutin Trail last Tuesday. Of course it rained hard that day. I couldn’t get a bike carrier anyways.

Finally, I said “f*** it. I’ll get the milestone wherever the Nuvi takes me.”

My son had a tennis match today in Marquette so I used the opportunity to go caching there, then remembered Brian’s post about Hogback elsewhere on this forum so I went there after I got up to 599. That didn’t work out either as you can see from my log.

Finally, the milestone is done and over with and I can move on. Maybe I can get someone with an SUV or pickup to do Hogback with one of these days.

    Again, thanks 🙂

I’ll take care of the Marinette County rustic roads which has three of them. I’ll get back to you.

in reply to: Thinking of archiving all my caches! #1929140

While I’ve never been to your caches, man, I’ll say this: Don’t be afraid to ask a fellow cacher in the community to ask for help in maintaining your caches if you can’t do it yourself. I’m sure one would be willing to help.

All you have to do on your end is post maintenance logs and such.

    Just a thought.

    Love that one, Bartrod.
