A couple of points for a big day:

    6. Take the time to create a Bookmark of the caches on your hit list. Then
obtain a current PQ a day or two before your trip. Will help in knowing recent finds, DNFs, disablements, etc. And here you can include even more caches than you expect to hit.

Current?? Like the Current PQ you had in Escanaba that landed us 200 feet away from the cache 🙂

ROFL. I read the logs on that one. Good thing Astro D saved your butt – lol.

It’s possible you found an archived cache in which the container was never recovered.

Another possibility is that it is a Terracache or Navicache. Geocaching website is not the only website that does geocaches.

Thanks to Rob and Lori for the event and congrats on the milestone.

Thanks. I had every intention of making that event my 500th find. I was at #483 when I started out Saturday morning, so I made a list of 20 caches to hit in order on the way to the event. Even had an FTF along the way (caught a break when Sweetlife didn’t load that cache into his GPS as his PQ was a day older than mine). Of course, I had a few DNF’s along the way which is why I listed 20 caches. But when I was at 498, I ran into a string of a few more DNF’s including a certain tree hanging over the guardrail that I thought was a 1.5 and couldn’t find and others have.

Finally made a find to get me at 499 and made it to the event, albeit an hour late.

I wish I knew the others at the event had milestones also I could have said congrats to them in person.

Great event and I’ll be back next year.

Getting ticks are common on hikes and walks in the park, but has anyone picked any up from quick park and grabs such as a Top Spot?

Last year, I picked up a cache at a Top Spot. I kneeled down on the ground to retrieve it as the sign was at the edge of a ditch and immediately made friends with 3 ticks. It was that quick.

    As Ron Simmons once said…

    DAMN!

    in reply to: TICKS #1926734

I might do it anyways. Ticks are an accepted hazard of geocaching no matter where one caches, whether it’s one or a dozen.

Most I ever found on me was 10 ticks at one time. Happened when I was on a trail in Peshtigo. Was like a 3/4 mile walk one way. Fun fun.

Thought about placing a series of caches on this same trail. Not sure if I should due to the plentiful ticks. Thoughts?

That interchange was done a long time ago. I guess I’ll have to deal with Garmin’s inability to put out updates quicker.

Site is slow as **** today .

    in reply to: TICKS #1926724

Went on a 50 cache trip with 43 finds yesterday including hikes in a few local parks in Appleton.

Not one tick on me. If I grabbed any, it fell off without me knowing. Didn’t see any go down the drain when I showered. Checked my clothes. Nothing there either.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

    Mine is :

    1) Garmin Venture HC . It records caches that’s I’ve found or DNF’ed, eliminating the need for me to write down GC numbers of caches that I’ve visited.

    2) Garmin Nuvi 205- to drive to caches

    3) Ipod (with cache notes loaded onto it)

    4) GSAK with pocket queries loaded onto it..have over 4000 unfound caches in my personal database so I’m set if GC goes down – lol. I really don’t need to load more unless I plan on hitting a new area.

    5) Laptop – just ordered one and will take with me on caching runs.

I guess you can say geocachers are geeks – lol.
