Hints containing “stump”?
God knows I’ve seen hints like “Are you that stumped to need a hint?” or “I betcha this cache has you stumped.”
It’s very obvious where the cache is.
Let me guess, TBC. You were bored 😛
I’m interested to hear what other stats that you come up with 🙂
The new Facebook layout….cripes.
This might help.
I once used the Cache Raid macro on GSAK if I want to do a numbers run. While it has its flaws, it served its purpose. The macro printed out a condensed HTML list of caches to hit in order, so I simply followed the list and quickly went from one cache to another.
The flaw is – the macro does not account for bodies of water that may be between caches as I found out in my numbers run in Appleton when I’ve crossed the Fox River more than once.
But like anything else in life, I’ve learned from it and will plan my route better. I’ll still use the macro, but will look at a map to make sure no bodies of water are in the way and make adjustments. I do not want to spend too much time planning a route like I used to do before I went paperless.
These days, I have my GPS, PDA, Nuvi, and Ipod all loaded with my cache files that I select on GSAK in various export modes. Outside of a 2-3 page cache raid list, WSQ puzzles and other puzzles that has to be solved in the filed like at a historical marker, I don’t print anything out anymore.
I used to bring a stenopad with me to write down GC numbers of caches that I’ve visited, but since I got my Garmin Venture, I can mark my visits on it, then refer to the Venture later to log my finds.
Mine was 41 finds out of 54 attempts, I believe. This was done on the last week of November in Appleton. Had I had more daylight to work with as well as taken more time to find some of my DNF’s, I probably would have had more finds for the day.
I’m not a numbers runner, so I started getting tired at the end and actually slowed down my pace after first finding about 15 caches in the first two hours. I ending up finding those 41 caches in about an 8 hour period.
No doubt I’ll get 100 finds in a single day in the summer when I have more daylight to work with.
I agree. Challenge caches are more fun when done within the guidelines as requested by the placer.
Many challenge caches have the coordinates for the final listed on the page, but I’ve seen a lot of times that a cacher will find and log the cache even though he didn’t do the requirements to find that cache.
Me, I’ll follow the rules of any challenge challenge.
Case in point: there is a challenge cache at Pike Lake State Park called BINGO. Basically a cacher must get all 9 caches on one difficulty level such as 1/1, 1/1.5, 1/2, etc.. I was at Pike Lake when I found the Pike Powder Hike and I knew that BINGO cache was nearby, but because I didn’t meet the requirements to find and log that cache yet, I didn’t make an attempt to look for it. I didn’t even think about finding it, then just log it later when I fill out the requirements. That’s wrong too.
I prefer to play any challenges the way the owner intended it to be.
Could always put on ice skates and move along quicker 😛
Find any more safes in the woods lately, Peach? 😛
You know, there is this thing called a life…which you obviously don’t have.
Well, I did it too.
For the month of January, I have attempted zero caches and obviously did not find a single one in January. I have not posted any logs, notes, TB drops or retrievals, or any maintenance logs for my own caches, making my 30 day log page empty.
That will probably continue into February. As of today, my streak stands at 31 days and counting. Chances are good the streak will hit 60 days.
Very nice glasses, Labrat. Very nice.
Wow. I’m amazed my little comment set off a 3 page thread as of this post.
I guess they thought they were ice road truckers like you see on TV. Those guys have the experience driving on ice, plus it’s much colder up north in their area.
My condolences to the family that lost the driver in that accident.
Bartrod was saying that he was planning to take his boat out there in the summer. So I think I’m gonna go with him at that time. I got a fear of walking on ice in a river, bay, or lake and will not attempt any caches in such areas even if I see shanties and ice fishermen out there. I’m not about to take that risk.
Good luck to anyone that attempts Longtail on the ice.
