I have a permanent folder called “caches” and it’s on my desktop for easy access. All my cache related files go there. My PQ’s, my GPX files, and my Garmin POI’s as well as stash notes and blank logs for micros in PDF files. The folder is purged regularly of obsolete PQ’s and GPX files.

    System works well for me.

I echo Cheeto’s sentiments. I don’t care for virtuals all that much. I’ve only found two in all of my 400 total finds and only because they are in my area.

Otherwise, I prefer to find the physical cache that I can actually sign a log. Same goes for earth caches.

Good luck and be safe, Marc.

Big difference between “North Milwaukee” and “NW Suburbs of Milwaukee”!

Yes, I know. Just making a joke there. Notice the “tongue sticking out” smiley.

Idiots that pass me on the highway like I’m standing still only to make a turn a quarter mile down the road forcing me to stop and wait for said idiot to make his turn.

in reply to: Watching ….. #1918849

I don’t watch catches as I have my notifications on for that though that’s in my 35 mile radius. I have no interest in watching a cache an hour away.

Only trackable I watch is “The Key” from Peach’s Lockbox cache. I found that one a couple months ago and put the Key in a cache at the Reforestation Camp. I doubt anyone will get that Key for a while.

Otherwise, nothing on my watch list.

Animated ads that crawl across the screen when I’m trying to read the page….

I’m not a Christmas person. I requested not to get anything and got my wish.

    Merry Christmas.

Just click on the 3 photobucket “inactive photo” links. The files are still on the server on Photobucket. It is just inactive from hotlinking, that’s all.

    Hope I make sense.

    N/m..you got it.

How can a GPS get a satellite lock indoors?

in reply to: Now THAT is really something!! #1918568

Just looked at my stats…out of 400 finds total, I found just 17 multi’s

I need to get out and find more multi’s. I am more of a traditional cacher though.

Whoo hoo, http://FTP..oh, never mind..wrong thread..

    And congrats, Dan.

That’s the problem with virtuals. Anyone can log them without actually making the visit. It’s up to the cache owner to ensure each log is legit. I’ve seen a few logs of other virtuals and earthcaches saying “unable to send e-mail” or “will send e-mail later”.

If the cache owner does not take action to verify the log, then nothing we can do.

Today I started planning my route to and fro for the planned march to the “Eagle Source”. I figure if time allows, I could collect a couple of counties and DeLorme pages along the way. While looking at a page for a virtual, I noticed that there were two finds a day or two apart. Both finders are from Germany. After looking at the profile for one of them, and looking at their stats and finds, it turns out that they have cached in numerous states, from the midwest to the southwest. Unless I missed something, all of their 88 finds in this country, are virtuals. How odd I thought. So I looked at all of their traditional finds and found them to be almost 100% in Germany and France. I also noticed that they cached in quite a few foreign countries. Imagine, such world travelers and only finding virtuals? After seeing their finds in the US of virtuals, and where they found their traditionals, I quit looking any further. I was just too pi__ed off. Talk about arm chairing it.

Furfool, I’m guessing that finder is Geocachingdog. He’s since been banned by Groundspeak. More info on my blog as I wrote about it last week.

Guess I’ll have to pay out of state prices.

I plan on returning to Gov Thompson State park in the spring to clean up the caches there, then hit some other state parks that has multiple caches.

Only ten bucks more for out-of-staters. All the same advantages. Since you’re in Wisconsin all the time, T3, spring for the annual sticker.

It’s funny how close to 4 miles is the difference between me being a MI resident and a WI resident. I live about that distance from the border.

Back on topic, yeah, I’ll get the annual sticker. Now that I have a real GPS, I can VENTURE out on long hikes in the state parks.

For those of you that didn’t get the pun, my GPS is an Etrex Venture HC 😉
