    Congrats, Sandlanders.

I myself just had my half year geo-versary yesterday. I found my first cache April 17 of this year. I’ve some a long way since in that short amount of time. Even though I’ve only been caching for 6 months, it seems like 6 years.

That’s not the standard map from GC.Com

    What’s the map from?

I have not cached for a couple weeks, so have not run a PQ for a while. No need to run PQ’s until I’m ready to go back into the field.

So far of the 14 days this month, I’ve cached exactly one day and found just 3 caches that day, no thanks to Bambi.

Gonna give it another shot at 300 on Tuesday the 20th.

in reply to: flashlights used for night caching #1915085

You want a regular powerful flashlight that can project a strong beam of up to 200 feet or so. Expect to pay good money for a good heavy duty flashlight such as this one.

I have a flashlight that is very close to that model. Always carry extra batteries with you as you never know when a flashlight will die on you in the middle of caching, especially if it’s been a while since you installed the batteries.

Most flashlights usually say on the package how far the beam will project, so again, you want one that can project 200 fet or so. Most reflective markers are usually within 100 feet, but some are further away and you want to be able to spot them with your light from a distance.

    Hope this helps.

Since this thread is basically about caching in the winter and shopping at Pamida ;), I have a question to ask here.

What type of gloves do you guys wear when caching in the cold? I’m sure the bigger ski gloves might be a bit bulky to be able to navigate the buttons on a GPS. At the same time, the thin driving gloves may not be warm enough for caching. So I would assume you wear something in between.

I’m sure you remove the gloves once you find the cache and have to sign the log, but that only takes a minute. So no biggie there.

I played Mafia. It bored me quickly.

Now if only they’d make a geocaching video game………

I’ve only starting geocaching just this past April. So I’ve yet to experience winter caching.

What is geocaching like when there are several inches of snow on the ground? How difficult is it?

There’s a cache that I DNF’ed once because I would have had to walk through about 160 feet of ankle deep mud. I’m waiting for a freeze for that mud to harden and I can walk on top of it.

Also waiting for river ice over to get a couple caches on an island near me (I don’t have a boat).

I have a Dell Axim X30. I never use the sync with it because it’s a pain in the arse to do so. I found that it is so much easier for me to just move files from my Dell Axim to my computer and vice versa using the SD card.

It’s actually quicker too doing the drag and drop of files this way.

Nearest Pamida that I know of from me is in Oconto. I liked that store too. I’ve been to the one in Iron River, MI and Manistique, MI

Finally got to see it last night on my DVR. To avoid spoilers, I put it in white below. Just highlight and drag. This site should have a spoiler tag.

I wish geocaching played more of a part in this movie. I was disappointed to find out the only references about geocaching was the cachers finding the body and be questioned by the police as well as the cache owner being questioned by the police. After the cache owner was questioned, nothing was mentioned about caching ever again.

That ending was a shocker, however.

I wish more TV shows would have geocaching as part of a storyline and not just a bit reference to it like L & O did.

I know there are a few movies about caching like Splinterheads, but it would be nice to see geocaching gets it due on the small screen as well.
