Another one of my classmates, who recently discovered geocaching, posted this funny status on her Facebook profile.

Good grief. Since when did calling Diggers Hotline turn into a geocaching puzzle? Forgive me, neighbor, if your property gets marked instead of ours! I may have miscalculated the number of feet we are from the nearest intersection, not to mention being on the southwest side of the street, west of the nearest cross street, and wanting the east side of the house marked as well as the southwest corner. And could I verify that the box indicating our property is within 20 feet of the east part of the property and within 55 feet of the southwest? Lol.

I had a chuckle out of that. Incidentally enough, she accidentally discovered geocaching when she was looking for books in a little free library when she came across a geocaching log book. I thought that was cool. I don’t think she caches actively like the rest of us do. I think she just knows what’s it is all about including puzzles or she would not have made that comment. She is an active outdoor person, I know that.

I left my tweezers behind at one of the caches at High Cliff. Anyone finding a tweezers near a cache there, it’s all yours, LOL.

I have like 2 or 3 tweezers at home.

Just woke up this morning. Thought about hitting the trails again. But with storms in the forecast, I may have to change those plans.

Due to the rain in the forecast, I might just make the campout a one day thing. My original plan was to go two days and stay at a hotel. I was gonna leave tomorrow. But looks like rain in the forecast tomorrow. And I have no rain gear.

So I’ll probably just go Saturday.

I still log the old fashioned way – by typing in the GC code on GC.COM and typing my log on the computer.

I never use my phone to log caches in the field.

And I’m surprised people are still doing FTP’s even though stats are not kept anymore lol.

So I went to Escanaba today and did some urban caching.

If there turns out to be any bomb scares in Escanaba today, I’m done with urban caching. Last time I went on an urban run, I was at the center of a bomb scare, which was a few years ago. I try to stick to the woods if I can, or at least in city parks.

My longest log is only this – http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LID=135815384

I typically write a paragraph or two. I don’t write essays like some geocachers we know 😉

I’m surprised there is not a section on the WGA forums to discuss the campout like there is for the WBCB.

Anyways, those of you getting a hotel this weekend, where are you staying? I may attend the campout myself, but I’ll be staying at a hotel in Appleton somewhere.

Reading the news on the trestle bridge shooting…..my heart is heavy for those who lost lives – so senselessly…..

It’s unreal. And there are three caches in that park. Cache owners should probably disable them as it looks like the park will be closed for a while.

    Nothing but cheap FTP hogs.

I got my souvenir today too. Including a nemesis of mine that I DNF’ed twice previously. It’s always nice to wipe a previous DNF off the books.

    FTP? I think so

It has been a while 🙂

I absolutely won’t do motor vehicle power trails like the Bear Bait trails. Too much stopping and starting that can put a lot of wear on the vehicle. I prefer just taking my time biking or hiking the every .1 mile. With a vehicle, you get in, move 528 feet, get out, find cache, sign it, replace cache, get back in car, move car another 528 feet.

If I have to take my car to such a trail, I’ll probably park once every half mile and walk back then hit the next half mile. It will be slower, but at least I’m not stopping and starting my vehicle so much.

I know I’ll have to do this in urban caching too, but if I can plan the urban caching right, I can park in the middle of a nice populated area, walk around and grab 3-5 caches, then walk back to my car and move on to the next area of the city, I should be good. Even better if I transport my bike on my car, then I can just use my bike for urban caching.

I’m not a fan of power trails either, but if I need to set up a milestone, I’ll do them. In fact, I currently have 1241 finds, which means I need 59 more finds by May 16 if I want to make the WGA campout my 1300th find.

So I’ll have to do either:

    1) a biking power trail like the one in Kewaunee or

    2) a numbers run in a cache dense area like Appleton or West Bend. Last time I did an Appleton numbers run with only 2/2’s on my GPS, I found 41 caches in 8 hours with 10 DNF’s.

There are pros and cons to both. A power trail can rack up the numbers fast, but it is also boring with each cache the same – a nondescript film can in a tree. An urban numbers run is slower in getting the numbers, but at least each cache is different.

I’m still debating what I want to do if I want to get 59 finds before the 16h. Decisions, decisions.
