You should try opening them in MOPP-4 with your gas mask, charcoal suit, gloves, and boots on…I never thought they were hard to open, the lid just snaps on…

PhilI ordered 20 of the the M258A1 decon containers…I got them for $1.79 each out of a surplus dealer in Idaho….www.armysurpluswarehouse.com in case anyone is interested…

PhilWould you want our local law officials sitting behind a computer looking up where our caches are when they could be sitting at a Dunkin’ Donuts???? 😀
I’d never hear the end of it if one of my caches were to be called in…. 😯 😀
I guess I’d make it on the news though!!! I guess what really needs to be done is more exposure to geocaching…that’d be one way to make the muggles aware that not everything is a bomb…

PhilWell, I’ve decided to inform the police in the areas where I have geocache containers placed where they are located. I’m hoping this will keep from having the bomb squad called in from Green Bay or Milwaukee if one of my containers is found by a concerned muggle….being a firefighter, I’d hate to be paged out for a bomb scare to find out it was one of my geocaches that had been discovered….that’d be a bit embarassing…the police in both areas that I contacted said that it was fine, and to let them know if I set any more out and what the locations were….

I noticed a week ago or so that Fleet Farm in Beaver Dam has some army surplus back by the hunting/fishing area. On the bottom shelf they had quite a few ammo cans ranging in sizes at reasonable prices I thought. I don’t know if other Fleet Farm’s stock similiar stuff.
Ya, the one in Plymouth does also, there’s where I’ve been getting mine….now I’ve got a bunch of decon kit containers coming from a surplus dealer in Idaho…for $1.79 each, you can’t go wrong….

PhilJust keep your fingers crossed you don’t come across one with a bad cd in it…..if you do, try burning a copy of the bad disc and installing it on the burned copy….that’s how I finally got mine to install…

eeheheheh…I had a run in with one of those PVC containers today…ya, I definitely won’t go that route….there was no way to open with my bare hands…

Philehehehehe…I totally forgot about my lil green jeep when it came….I found it on my computer desk when I pulled my old ‘puter out and put my new one in…I put it out last week in a cache and it was picked up right away….

PhilYa, I’ve noticed that over the last couple weeks, I’ve come a cross a couple damp and a couple soaked logs…I think the pill bottles are ok, as long as they’re in an area that will stay relatively dry….I’ll check into these lock-n-lock boxes….I definitely think the ammo cans are they way to go also, I’ll have to run to Fond du Lac and hit the military surplus store there…Fleet and Farm has them also…I’ll have to paint and label them accordingly so they aren’t to suspicious looking…Today, the two ammo cans I came across were a little beat on the outside, but perfect inside…

PhilThe issue I have is making a good container that doesn’t look all that suspicious and is cheap to buy/build. My wife wouldn’t like it if I used her tupperware containers….of course I could hit rummage sales this summer and see what I could find cheap….I wouldn’t mind spending the money on a decent container, but I don’t want them to get muggled and disappear. I think the PVC is out of the question, I hadn’t thought about the hard to open factor…unless you were to smear some vaseline on the threads where you didn’t have to over tighten it to keep the water out, but then that could be messy also. Ammo cans would be great, but they’re pricey also…besides, the ones I already have serve a purpose in my garage…I’ve used film canisters before, but there’s only so much that can be put in there, and I’ve had those muggled also in the past…I suppose I could hit Goodwill and some other thrift shops also….
Thanks for the input!
