During our entire trip, there wasn’t any rain until we drove home from Normal IL on Sunday. There was a thunderstorm at night one of the first nights on the boat, but everyone was in hanging out in different places onboard. Now we get home and all it’s done is…rain. We did get a text from our son one of the days when the rain was really crazy, letting us know nothing got in the basement. Downriver, they had seven straight months above flood stage. Then for some reason, late in July, it all…drained. Like pulling a plug in the bathtub.
Which might explain why the boat got stuck on a sandbar our first night. They had to pull a 360…literally….to get off and moving downstream again! Trekkin’ likes to say he’s now done 360s in cars on ice AND in the world’s largest steam paddlewheeler!
Off line for 4 days while we moved. Up and running again!
Hope everything went well! Did you get the kitty out of the box yet?
Waiting to hear if kitty came out.
We’re back. Our son dropped us at AmTrak on 9/14. We arrived in Memphis on 9/15. Departed there 9/16 in the evening on the American Queen. Got chased off the boat 9/23. Picked up our rental car after spending 2.5 days in NOLA, taking the leisurely route back home, rolling in yesterday around 2:30PM. Boy, was that a splurge! And worth it. We did realize while talking with many nice folks cruising along with us that we were running with a crowd mostly out of our league. People who own several homes around the world kind of league. Amazingly, one of the assigned dinner mates at our table graduated from the same high school as me one year before me. I am not sure what the odds of that might be, but I’m guessing fairly astronomical.
I don’t think we’ll get to enjoy the sight of the full moon around here tonight.
Break some “celings!” Celebrate today as Women’s Equality Day 2019. Good Luck to our National Women’s Soccer Team in their future day in court!
Life has been pretty busy, but in response to this…..I was in Minneapolis for a couple days this week to hang with my mom and found out a day late the team was doing an exhibition game at that new soccer stadium there. Wish I’d realized that before the fact.
In related news…Pooh’s Pal is staying with us for a few days, which means we get to enjoy his first soccer game tomorrow. That was our sons’ main game and we really grew to love it, so it’ll be fun to enjoy it all over again.
Have fun down there. We might go to Irish Fest…WeBanjo3 and Gaelic Storm are both playing there. Or we might go to Perrot and hear about artifacts and throw an atlatl. Next week we’ll be camped out at Larryfest for a few days. Hoping for decent weather then, of course.
You really don’t want to throw that atlatl…won’t kill any game that way…unless you knock it out
I just bought three new darts for the atlatl we use in demonstrations at Copper Culture S.P. They are not cheap! Have fun with that.
We had the chance to try them when we visited the Vore Buffalo Jump site right on the border of SD and Wyoming. Trekkin’ has information on where they get theirs and says we’re getting one, but it has yet to happen.
We weren’t in WB. We did some Wisconsin West Coast river fun yesterday. Today we’re doing….not much. Kind of a blah day around here. It was too rainy to go do the atlatl thing by last night. I wonder if they even did that.

We have decided we don’t need all the souvenirs from this particular promotion. We got the detective and that will likely be all we get. If we were traveling or something, it might be a little easier, but we don’t want to drive all over kingdom come for little images on our profile. It’s kind of a fun promotion in the way it’s set up, it’s just not practical for us right now. It’s not Pokemon, after all. (Gotta get ’em all!)
That said, we did actually find a cache today. Boy, was that a workout, but we had fun and I found some wild berries, so it’s all good!
Jim, Could it be related to dealing with your sister’s stuff? Such a tough time, and things like that don’t make it better. Take care of yourself.
I’m hoping to take Pooh’s Pal and StarLily for a short jaunt on the Amtrak once summer school’s over. We can ride from LaCrosse to Tomah, Trekkin’ can pick us up and I’ll get some bonus points for signing up with Amtrak’s reward program. We’ll be taking a more serious trip with them mid-September.
It should make for a bit different experience for them from the trips on the train at the Railroad Museum in North Freedom.
The lost is found! I was folding laundry and there was this pile of sheets on the dresser that I never bothered to fold earlier. Picked it up and voila! I’d actually looked under them once but hadn’t pulled the entire sheet off the dresser.
I kind of like that fun Snark with the color tuning display, though. Oh well!
I could have written this a few months ago. When I moved, I thought I packed mine in a logical place, but when I went to get it, hmm, where could it be? It was missing for about 9 months. I seriously considered buying another one, and just when I was about cave and go out and get one, then I found it. Where? In a bag of fabric tucked in a shoebox. Seriously, what was I thinking?!

I figure it’s going to show up some weird spot like that, though I’ve already checked some like that. I even called Poohs Pal (he hasn’t been here this week) to see if he remembered seeing it around. I just double-checked the places he remembers. Sigh. That one I borrowed from Ty this morning was way nicer…..I’m sure he’d be happy to sell me one!
If you were my electronic instrument tuner, where would you be?
I know it’s here somewhere; I used it to attempt tuning my old dulcimer for my grand-daughter. It’s not in any logical place to be found, probably the phone rang or the dog wanted in or something and I set it down somewhere. I just borrowed one from the shop owner at our dulcimer group this morning. I like the one he let me use better. 😀
These new souvenirs are gonna be a tough get for me…will have to travel a long way to look for clues
No kidding. Yesterday we picked up “Detective” by finding a p/g a couple miles from where I had my gig in Belleville. Today we picked up a couple clues, finding some caches on our way home from hiking up Trow Mound early this morning. As I’m reading stuff in the “big” forums, one has to find at least 22 caches, plus another 35, in order to get to the final souvenir. Not gonna happen. We decided we’ll cache as we wish….or not. There are so many other things to do besides run around like chickens with our heads chopped off in search of this stuff. I know others are all over this and good for them. Just not for us, we decided. We’ve skipped other souvenirs, too.
No fireworks for us, we’re staying home to help our dog get through them.
We’re also hoping to finally take part in the annual drive on Old 131 in the Kickapoo Reserve, but last night’s flooding may modify the route. So…we wait to see before leaving here. Old 131 is now a paved trail through the Reserve, but it follows the route of Highway 131 before it was rerouted. We’ve biked and walked the trail many, many times, but this is the one time in the year folks can drive on it…from noon to 4. Keeping our fingers crossed that we can still do it.
In the meantime, we’ll start cutting up our wood scraps to build the Little Free Library.
Well bummer, just checked….the ride is cancelled.
