I just ran that stat for our hides and it was a pleasant surprise to see the results. Ours don’t get hit that often.
Thanks. I wish gc would revive the keyword search option…it would make this a lot easier.
Thanks Jim!
Welcome back! When you said Lapham Peak, I figured I knew which one it was. For that picnic only, the cache owner had placed physical logs at each stage to sign and allowed multiple logs. One on our team wanted to count each one and one of us did not. We were not as long into the game at that point in time and the one who wanted to log them all…won. If that picnic had happened now, we’d both be solidly in the “what’s the big deal?” camp. We loved that cache. Sadly, I do think nice multis often get passed by in this day of numbers. What I always find interesting now that favorite points are part of the game is just how many multis do have higher numbers of favorite points. I know we don’t worry too much if we come across a multi in our PQ and see it hasn’t been logged in awhile. Usually they’re still there.

To be safe, I suggest you just find 10 or more caches at each spot, then you won’t have to worry.
Ha ha, that’s what happened with us. When we kept losing them, we’d get a few insurance ones. Even at that, we’ve fallen back to the kind of caching that we loved in the beginning, hiking all over for a box or two in the woods. Often, those have nice grid filling tendencies, anyway, which might explain why we enjoy those kind of challenges.
I agree though…you talk to Joe Cacher about things like DeLormes or Fizzy challenges and they look at you like….well, people who never heard of geocaching at all!
We had qualified at LEAST 11 times for the original Well Rounded Challenge in California. This kept happening, and always the reason made sense. Cache was compromised. Ratings changed. When we finally got the challenge cache, we ran the PQ to do our qualifiers and it had happened….again! I had been emailing back and forth with Kealia about this latest turn of events and he told us…”I’ve never had this happen to anyone so often! Log a note and try to find the last one soon!” (I’d emailed back and forth over the years about such things after we placed our version in Wisconsin). I posted my note and got three different emails from watchers, including links to qualifiers that might be on our way home. I was able to figure out one located in Nebraska staying up late into the night. We got it. We went to the nearest McDonalds, logged our find and edited our note to a find before anything else could change. I know it has happened again after that, but our date controlled finds have so far stayed the same.
We have had people grumble to us about the control date on ours, and we understand….believe me we do!…but we’ll hold firm on that. When these things happen, we just look at it as an opportunity to find more fun caches to find. Good luck!
That’s a really helpful insight, Deejay. I will have to plan ahead before departure, since we’re Luddites and don’t have one of them there smartphone thingies. I need to brush up on the area geography so searching on the maps for the stops isn’t such a challenge, but I have a few months yet. Given the nature of the trip, I won’t be able to do any of our hiking type stuff, but time spent with my mom and brother and his wife will more than make up for that! Thanks for all the info!
I’m also planning a few coffee dates with a local geocaching friend who’s from Germany to work on brushing up on those long lost language skills, which should be entertaining for her.
Thanks Marie. My brother’s phone is probably set to work over there as well, so I might have him resurrect his gc account ahead of time…just in case!
I think technology is this….

Worth the watch if you have a little time. I was laughing pretty hard at times.
Got my first deer tick exactly a week ago while birding. The next day, Trekkin’ had three of the nasty things. They are much hated in this household.
For some reason, I’m unable to log into the gallery. I’ve had trouble in the past and just gave up trying to post any photos in there. I can log in anywhere else on the site, go figure.
But thanks!
Thanks HP. The satellite view just does not do it justice.
Thanks Todd….we have several different “dollar” stores here, not sure of the actual names. Time to find out!
This is an aside, but when I was in Wales several years back, I spotted a store called “Everything’s a Quid.” Otherwise, looked just like the dollar stores here and I had to take a picture!
Hey, way to go! Who knew?
Some areas have websites with lists of the cemeteries and they’ll name the cemetery board, or at least chairperson for them. There’s one like this in LaCrosse County, but the fellow who created it died recently. Geneaology websites often link up to local cemeteries, too. It’s a start.
