I want to find the caches that can hold THOSE TBs. LOL Heck, I’d like to find any caches that can hold any TB. There are a couple hotels in the area I’ll stop at if it’s just been too long, but it’s more fun to take them somewhere to find a cache with us. Getting harder to do that all the time, though.

Looks like we voted with everyone else, but I have to add…..around here, we’re seeing matchstick holders listed as ‘small.’

Ah well….it’s in keeping with our caching style…”we never ever do nothing nice…and easy…..”

Good question. Since I already did all that work, I almost don’t want to know, LOL I have to remember to go repair a couple of them that were corrected since last weekend, too. And we have a couple of parts of bonus coordinates to remember as well.

That part went quickly for me. It was transferring the corrected coordinates to GSAK that took FOREVER for me. I had to write them down, check and double check and a few times when I was overly tired, I realized I’d entered them into one I’d already corrected. If my short term memory were more reliable, I could skip the writing down part, but it was handy to have them all on paper when we struggled in the field….just to be sure.

Hopefully in a couple more days, we’ll have most of it spelled out. We left last weekend with the E and N and part of M in Men. Minus a DNF or eight! They don’t necessarily correlate exactly from the letters to where they are on the trail, so it’s best to do it all ahead of time. That might be part of why it hasn’t had more action…yet.

I still think there’s some educational value in including a note like that on a cache that probably deserves a good log. Newbies will be likely to read more of the cache listing than those of us who’ve done this awhile. Trekkin’ had an interesting experience with a new cacher in our area (now one we consider a friend) that related to acronym logs. As a result of that interaction, he writes real logs now, especially since in the meantime, he’s placed some fun caches of his own and gets to see it from the owner’s perspective.

As one who has long since learned to take life as it comes, I realize that such things will fall as they may. I simply pointed it out because we discuss this topic here from time to time and I thought it was a nice example of someone’s effort to try and encourage better logs on a well placed cache.

A little background on this particular geo art series…..Three cachers were involved in this project. They started placing them and working on the map and cache listings in July. The series was listed a little over a week ago and it took the new Iowa reviewers a couple months to go over them all prior to the “unveiling.” If you take a look at one cache page in the bunch, you can see the level of effort involved. We’ve been having fun with it…but that Snoopy dog in New Hampshire looks like it would be fun, too! So far, for the most part we’ve found the cache ratings are fairly accurate.

I need to go pull a turkey from its brine and start with the side dishes. Happy Thanksgiving!

He he LB7, you don’t cache with Trekkin! Mine is paperless as well, but he usually wants all the details after we don’t come up with the find right away. Since I hold the Oregon, I’ll start scrolling through and by the time I have the info he wants, he’s found the cache. I think it’s his sneaky way to ensure that he finds most of them. 🙄

I do have a habit of reading a cache page before I log it, though. I’ll upload the field notes, but I do like to check and see if there’s anything I should consider when writing the log. I enjoy writing the logs and I understand not everyone does. For the cache I shared, I thought it made for a nice reminder; he doesn’t do this with all his cache listings.

We’re working on the one Black Cat posted. We have found just under 1/4 of them so far. Hoping to make a larger dent this coming weekend. The trick is making all the conversions (which is easy) and converting them all in GSAK ahead of time. Took me about 6 hours to do it. Better short term memory could have cut that time down.

Edited to add…..lousy estimator…we’ve found about 30% of them so far.
There is some really spectacular scenery along the way.

I’m not a facebook user anymore, but if this is the same one someone pointed out to me a few months back, I was pretty surprised at it….and recognized a few people who were listed as “liking” the group. Are any of your puzzles on the site, peach? (No, I don’t plan to sign back up to get them…I enjoy figuring those things out for myself!)

There’s a project out there I read about on the MnGA to get a star in all 50 states. In the thread for that discussion, someone mentioned this one, which is about the cutest one I’ve seen.

It’s located in New Hampshire, and because I know someone will ask, here’s one of the caches forming the figure.

I know there’s also a USMC symbol somewhere, a jet and a steam locomotive (the last two in Idaho, I believe).

We’ve completed an alien head, a peace symbol, a smiley face and will hopefully finish one that spells out “The ‘G’ Men.”

I’d like to think that by the time we leave this earth, we’ll have moved on with our hobbies and taken care of this stuff, so that our kids don’t have to deal with it. As it is, the two of them have to fight over the 500 pounds of scrapbooks I’m leaving behind (meaning…who gets stuck with this stuff).

Seriously, that is an interesting thought and something probably none of us gives much mind to.

Barry, I like that plan! Wish we could do something like that, but alas, until we are dog-free, it won’t happen. Enjoy your fun!

Becca, If you can go there during the early or late hours of the day, the petroglyphs will be easier to discern. If you’re going there, you may also want to check out http://coord.info/GC13BZP which is not too far away and a real surprise on the prairie. That and the EC were the main reasons we went out that way, though we found quite a few other really great places to explore, too.

We don’t have any big plans for the weekend. We’ll take it as it comes. With deer season upon us, we’ll either cross the border to cache in “foreign” woods or do other things. I’d be game to try that Milwaukee geotour, but Trekkin’….not so much.

We’re old school, no smartphone, but the information shared in this thread seems like it would be good stuff to have “pinned” for people to find easily. Just a thought.
