I did the math based on one of the couple’s birthdates, and they were only in their 20s. Ages of our sons now. 🙁 It’s a really interesting thing to find, and people might miss it looking for the cache. We were surprised to see how much lichen has taken over in just ten years time (assuming the bear was placed the year of their death).

So sorry to hear of yet another loss to our community. We had not met him, but had done plenty of his caches. Condolences to his family.

Dave, Will that one be findable in winter? We often go up that way right after Christmas. We had a memorable hike in that park one of those times, and this sounds like a great one.

Congratulations….any cache in that park is milestone worthy!

I think I looked for Rush Lake View once and had a big fat DNF. But it was a really nice hike.

We did one of those old school caches today…”Northwest Passage,” in the far northwestern corner of Wisconsin. Rated a T3.5, more like a 4.5 We hiked in on a fire road that serves Jay Cooke State Park, hiked a good .8 in, then had to walk along the St. Louis River before going up….straight up! No one else around, Bald Eagles calling overhead and some pretty tough hiking up and down and up and down a steep ridgeline to the cache. Though we cussed our way as we slipped on the leaves going straight up, it was a great old school cache.

It’s been in play just over eight years. 27 finds. Amazing journey.

I know both sandlanders and I have hunting spouses, but I don’t think either of them have seen other than military surplus before. Maybe as the surplus has dwindled, someone is picking up and making new?

We saw the same thing at Farm and Fleet the other day..maybe a couple bucks more, though. We’d never seen brand new ones, either.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Hotdogs, we actually tried for that one and got all messed up on the trails, at which point we said…”Another day!” That is such a beautiful area. We’ve been up there 2-3 times now and never tire of it. Well, we’re pretty tired by the time we *get* up there, but you know what I mean! 🙄

Already on our “must do” list, Jim. This winter! That Smoky Hill one caught my eye as well. We’ll make a day of it sooner than anyone wants to think about that white stuff!

Newport is where we encountered a wolf pair several years ago right after Christmas. “Europe Bay” is the cache we were seeking and the whole experience was magical. It’s a cart in only campsite (or was) and we’d like to camp there some time, too. Look forward to revisiting it sometime! Thanks to labzone for taking on the park for us all to enjoy!

Congratulations, Rod! Isn’t it wonderful when those DNFs disappear and you didn’t have to do it?

Maybe when Pooh’s Pal goes to look for them, then. I guess in a sense, we did do that when we checked on the one he hid in a county forest he likes.

He really did hide it himself. We just took the coordinates and wrote up the listing for him. If he’d been allowed to do the write up, it would probably look like this…..PPPPOJhdha.dndn hdhdht %^^^

or words to that effect! 🙄
