What Pat said…….
Have you tried contacting dmnrec about Amnicon and Pattison? She is a geocacher and now the park manager up there. She might be willing to help with those…they are both great places that are worth the time to visit. Well, all our parks are!
Just got in after a day of St. Croix River valley caching, ready to celebrate my mom’s 89th birthday and what do I see has been discussed here? Thanks Pat for clarifying that challenge far more clearly than I might have. As far as grids that are displayed that don’t sort the finds, rest assured that those individuals have cleared things with us by way of private emails, bookmark lists and GPX files. I thought it was fairly clear as written, but one always knows their own intent and if there are areas of confusion after Pat’s great explanation, we’re only an email away.
Okay, for the rest of you who got caught up in this completely meaningless game this month, are you glad it’s finally over? I know I am (but I was the half of our team who would have been happy to just get the ones I really liked). We have one more and we’ll get that on the way to the Twin Cities to spend some time caching the border and visiting my parents. So we’ll be adding two days to this particular streak because of our travel, but I for one will be glad to end it.
I haven’t tried one myself, but looked into it. I have a nice Current Kestrel, but thought about an inflatable for short runs. When I was reading up on them, the good ones were still a couple hundred bucks minimum and everything I read suggested including the stabilizer bar that can fit into a channel along the bottom to help them track straight.
For easy little paddles, it’s maybe not a bad idea, but I’ve also been told to be sure that it handles your weight. We did meet someone using one last summer on the Cannon River….small people, btw….and they said it’s been okay for their use. Don’t remember what type they had, though.
Field solves can be a bit more…puzzling that way. Those I solve at home, I can check the maps ahead of time if I have any question about my solve and if it makes sense. There have been those that, when on site it seemed like a bad solve after all. We can walk away from those…can’t get them all anyway.
I still contend that a well done puzzle should leave no doubt as to the accuracy of your solve, in the majority of cases. EskoClimber near Duluth rarely puts one on his, and when I figure them out, I just know I got the right coordinates. I put them on ours, simply because of complaints, but almost all of ours don’t need one, either.
I got through the first one with my elderly (2002) version of Word. It sufficed. Hopefully with some experimentation, I can find out how to get Word to do some of the things to improve the appearance, which I think is possible if I can figure out the various commands. We had Print Shop ages ago and liked it. I’m not sure why we never upgraded it, other than we get annoyed with the speed at which these things change and need new add-ons.
Call me a Luddite. 🙄 I really have issues with a lot of technology and see it as a necessary evil in our world.
No, we retired and I resigned from my part time teaching job last spring. No more deals for us! I have come across some supposedly “free” downloads of Publisher 2007. One looks like the c-net site. Is that stuff safe? Is it free because there are newer versions? That would probably work just fine for me, if it’s safe to download and truly free.
Jeff, Is it open for the autotour all the time now, or will that still be in the future? I’d have liked to join it today but there was supposed to be a family celebration, until someone complicated matters.

but for the most part chasing FTF’s is in the past!
Lois, this is a joke, right? Cause we’ve seen quite a few from you the past few days! 😉
We put a date on all but the nanos, but I suspect half the time, we also have the date wrong. The joys of being retired! 🙄 Or perhaps the joys of just being old, not sure which it is.
A fine family tradition, getting the baby to find a cache on the way home! 😉 Congratulations to all of you!
Heck, we weren’t far from each other, then! Too bad we didn’t know. Both of those areas are great, but we’ve got a soft spot for Wildcat and the Reserve, because those were some of our first caches outside our immediate area that showed us wonderful places close to home.
What a cool story. Now you need to find someone to foster these caches for you, because who knows what other old Navy buddies you might find?
I had hoped to join a birding tour this spring through there but it didn’t work out. They have some nice habitat for grassland birds, which is a shrinking commodity these days. I look forward to self guided exploration of the area.
