Yeah, but now with the other things going on in life, I’ve decided that though the actual dash would be fun, getting up at 4AM, driving three and a half hours by myself, doing the event and then turning around and driving home…would not. So…staying put. Have fun all of you!
When I was writing for the Examiner, I did a two parter on this topic. Here you go…
http://www.examiner.com/geocaching-in-la-crosse/so-you-want-to-create-a-letterbox-hybrid-part-i
There are some amazing carvers out there, and a search on the letterbox sites will yield other links with ideas and tools. I have a dremel tool, and would love to try that for some more detailed stamps someday.
Congratulations on a scholary milestone!
Michael, As one who enjoys the handcarved stamps (working on one right now, in fact!), I appreciate that you continue to place them. I cross list the majority of our hybrids and am always surprised (and delighted) when I check them physically to see how many letterboxers have actually found them.
I like getting stories on our caches, but I figure we put them out into the universe and if we don’t get to see the results, we trust that most who do look for our stuff are enjoying their day. All any of us can ever do is put out what we like and then whatever happens, happens. There are so many things way more worth stressing about. For us anyway, this isn’t one of them. As the original poster said, if we get a “found it” log, we know it’s still out there being found. Not everyone waxes poetic, in writing or in voice. We all have different gifts we bring to this or any other game. Celebrate them all.
Last time I was able to enter the chambers, Old Abe was still holding court over the podium in the Capitol building. I’m sure he’s had better days.
Wish we could make it, might do a quick day trip….for some reason, I thought running a Warrior Dash in Twin Lakes on Sunday would be a great idea. Mostly, I just want Trekkin’ to get a photo of me jumping over the fire, LOL.
So, if we decide not to spend two days driving all over, have fun! Nice looking pathtag, too, Barry.
What a ducky milestone! Congratulations on a very cool adventure for this one.
Congratulations you guys. You have infected Trekkin’, I’m afraid, but we have to finish up Minnesota first, LOL.
Yeah, that’s a great spot. I still contend that Trekkin’ deliberately dumped me while in the canoe a couple of years ago so we could pass on by due to waterlogged clothing! 🙄
Power boats and barges. I’ve got it loaded in the Garmin so I can eyeball the location when we’re traveling. The owner mentioned in a log taking the kayak, so I’m assuming he launched from Kiep’s landing in the Trempealeau Refuge. Maybe if I ever get my rack installed on my car, I could take a spin up and just see. Some late fall day when that kind of traffic dies down.
I’d love to do Ile du Diable, but river traffic there with a kayak is a bit scary for me. There are a couple local ones we’ll check out when we’re next in that area for our own caches. The rest are there for the LCG people’s enjoyment. 😀
I’m in a bad mood today after two days of kid care and a major mess from a storm this morning, that’s what happened, LOL.
And like I said…if others want to play this one, have fun. Not me! We all enjoy it our own way….
Why do we need evil caches? We’ve pretty much decided when we see “evil,” we’re moving on, unless the location is worth a visit. Some love that kind of thing, so maybe they’d savor something like this.
Yeah really, another positive is the fact we have sanctioned childishness while searching for some of this stuff! Not that many other opportunities for an over the hill grandma to climb trees to take one for the team.
I was hoping they’d dump the net climbing thing. I can probably slog my way through the other stuff okay, but I know my wimpy arms will struggle to hang onto that net until I can get over the top. Oh well.
Congratulations on a big one, Sue!
