That one returned a bad code. Thanks anyway.
Congratulations you two! You should have let us all know, we could make up a “happy milestone” song to sing at the event.
We realize that sometimes these are flash in the pan players, but many are not. Several hundred finds and at least a few other ECs. We try to allow the benefit of the doubt for them. Maybe the email went to spam, maybe they had a family emergency come up, something. When we got to our third email, the one that says, If you don’t respond by such and such, we will have to delete your log, we sometimes get a response. It’s just not fun having to delete logs, but we do remind them that the answers are the way of “signing” an EC log.
I would not want a reviewer’s job. People get irritated enough with what kind of cache you place, where you place it, yada yada. You guys get all that multiplied by however many hundred people are submitting caches. Thanks for doing it!
The logs will get deleted, but we like to take the broad view that sometimes life happens and good intentions are set aside momentarily, thus we give some allowances for time. Despite apparent rumors to the contrary, we’re amiable folks and understand mistakes are made sometimes. We sure make our share of them!
It’s probably the mobile app thing at work. Our phone isn’t that smart, so we don’t have experience with it. I never use the field notes for logs, just to help me remember when I sit down to write them.
Shane, I suspect you’re correct. And I agree, some kind of flag to help people remember would be great. It interests me that most of these people don’t even respond to say, “Oops, I’m sorry.” I don’t know if they think we won’t act on things or what.
Gary, I appreciate the nice logs too, but have learned to take them when they come as a gift and delete the tftc ones when I’ve checked answers. ruff and polish cutie just did our Amnicon Falls one and he had a nice log. They don’t have to be sagas (although of course those are fun), but say something about what you saw or experienced or something.
Congratulations! Honestly, I think the GPSr is easier to master than a compass, with which I still struggle a bit.
Fun milestone photo and hearty congratulations!
How fun to have the milestone cache end up being a favorite character, too. Congratulations!
I’m kind of with gotta run on this one…..if it’s not fun, do something else. You can quit forever, or you can take a break, or you can reassess. No one has said, “You must geocache!” We hit a rather public point of burnout this past winter, and while I’d still happily do only the kind of caching I chose to do on my eastward bound trip, we will sometimes break things up with some “just because” caches.
I don’t like to fault anyone for the way they choose to play the game. Our preference has been and always will be the long hikes or crazy challenges, but that hasn’t stopped us from getting plenty of P/Gs on the way to those. For others, they just enjoy watching the numbers pile up and the big series serve that purpose. We keep slowing down, and seeking more balance with other things in life, and doing that has helped keep this fun for us. (If anyone wants to argue the point that we’ve slowed down, I can show you our GSAK charts that demonstrate an ever downward spiral in our monthly find counts since 2008!) For us, it’s been a good way to get out and enjoy exploring together and at times, escaping the problems of the day for a little while.
Just covering for you, Pat! Now I AM going back out to the dirt!
I know there are situations where you can’t just tell a kid to get outside, but that’s not the same thing as not really knowing what to do with kids outside, which certainly isn’t a problem for most here.
And to BigJim…..I was outside! Just came in to get a drink. Now I’ll be back out there. Granted, some might not think messing in the garden is play, but I do! 😀
When the dog ate my 60cs, it was replaced by Garmin with a refurbished 60csx. It was like new and I’ve not had any problems with it.

There has to be a story behind that one cache! Congratulations!
There are a lot of really nice photos there. I did my voting, but they’re all winners!
