I generally don’t drop trackables in most TB hotels for this reason. I did place one when I was on my trip east in a TB Hotel. It was accessible from the interstate, but not easily so. I walked from my motel, but the suggested approach was to park at the back of a big cemetery. You had to creek hop a couple times and go right through thorns to get to it in a wooded patch.
Next log after mine claims there weren’t any trackables. The one I dropped was one of those little cachekins, so maybe they overlooked it. I hope. It didn’t appear to be a kids’ fort or party spot, so not sure what might have happened. We try to drop travellers in harder caches or remote locations, but sometimes people aren’t happy with that, either. Almost all of our released trackables have gone missing. We don’t care how long one sits, as long as it does. Of about a dozen released, only two are not marked missing now. One sat in a cache near the Arctic Circle forever, but I knew where it was! Ones with a lock are probably a good idea.
Oh shoot, same day as another event further north. You all have fun, maybe if it goes well, someone can plan a similar one down the road.
At the moment, I’m in Niagara Falls, the Canadian one. So far, I’ve been able to get all my “have tos,” and most of the others I’d loaded. I did THE most awesome hiking cache ever this morning in Killarney Provincial Park, after a wonderful night camping with me, myself and I there. Beautiful place off the beaten path. No moose, but I did see sign of them there. Those who know me will not be surprised to her this! The rock “scrambles” make the stuff at Devil’s Lake seem like a walk in the park, but the view once on top of literally breath taking. Took me about 3.5 hours round trip…about 2.5 miles one way.
The next couple days will be interesting to see how I fare, but I’m a day ahead of my schedule…such as it is. Today was one of the most awesome caching days in my life. I got a whole 5! Rod, those were great caches, I’ll be sure to add any of those whenever we’re in that area.
Sorry Paul, but an event that relates to my career and passion that I’ve attended for almost 20 years just trumped it. Have it another weekend and we can probably come…like last year’s! 😉
Thanks, I’m going to do my best to get the ones I really want and worry about where I am when I get there. That way, I really only have one absolute, which is the hotel in CT and the car ferry the next morning to get me to Long Island. I have 70 total, including stuff in WI on my way to my in-laws tomorrow night, so you’d think I could manage to look for the majority of them in 10-12 days time, right?
Time will tell.
So far, I’ve made my absolute “have to” list. I think there are less than 10 caches on that list. I will shorten my travel time to the Straits area and maybe get myself a little further and across the border a day sooner that way, by crashing with family in Green Bay tomorrow night.
I know I have more stuff on my list than I can possibly do, but it’s like teaching; better to be overprepared. My caching is in clusters and really not too many in any one. Like, all along trails in wildlife areas and state parks and such. My biggest issue is really wanting to do this day hike in Killarney, which would mean taking two days there camping, but the forecast actually looks decent. I’m tempted to just skip my commitments and go play, but I’m not senile enough to claim that as an excuse.
I’ll be ramming home in two days on I-80, just getting a couple on/off ramp ones in Jersey and one oldie in Indiana just off the highway.
Depending on when this is held, I’d be very interested in something like this. Cool idea!
I don’t have Seth going through the ice, but flirting with that possibility. Does that count? 🙄
I did a cache that asked for haiku logs last month.
http://coord.info/GC2H5J5Most people don’t give it a try. I have a book about writing haiku and the one thing I took from it is that the guy considered to be the haiku master, Basho, said he wrote one good haiku…ever. So I did. Got an email from the owner thanking me. Those of us who write good logs and try to honor a cache’s intent can attest to the many such emails received. I don’t expect to get such notes from cache owners, but it’s nice to know they enjoy the effort, too, and gives another opportunity to share thoughts/appreciations for their effort.
Congratulations Roger and Lois. Looks like a great choice for your milestone, we hope to follow your footsteps there in the future!

I wasn’t trying to call out a specific cache, but his comments were of a shoulder shrug nature. He knew it was placed to be easily found, and couldn’t understand how some people were in such a hurry. Very nice guy, and I enjoyed talking with him about the wonderful work he’s doing, too.
I am so happy the Lime Squeeze gets 40MPG. I have a long distance trip coming up, and while I wish the prices were at least what they were a week ago, I’m not going to stress. Family and some fun on the way to visit them are still worth the cost to me. We’ve long tried to combine our travels anyway, and our caching has progressively slowed down these past two years, so we aren’t feeling it so much.
I do recall that our “worst” year of caching, the gas prices topped 4 bucks a gallon that summer, too. Didn’t seem to stop us then.
I’ve had no luck with any aspect of the site today. Another sign that a different pastime is in order, LOL.
It’s not very far from Galena IL, which has things to interest spousal units who don’t want to paddle. We were thinking maybe of doing this and then staying in Galena, actually. No time frame so far for us, other than “after June 5th.”
No interest here? We’ll figure out a way to make this happen for ourselves, even if it means someone takes an 8 mile bike ride back to the vehicle! It just sounds too cool to shortcut for us.
