Brian, Thank you so much for all your efforts. I know there have been many wanting to see a site redesign for a long time, and you’ve gone above and beyond already. I’m glad, too, to see offers from knowledgeable folks to step up and help out. We are not the real world here, and I know the folks behind the scenes have real lives, too. Just know that your efforts are applauded. I can barely get my new “out of the box” laptop running like I want, so I really have an appreciation for your work.
And thanks for removing those troublesome apostrophes. Sometimes being grammatically correct is just a heap of trouble, we’ve learned! 😉
Congratulations! We sure have had fun doing many of these when we head over to that part of the state. Thanks for all the fun you’ve provided for so many of us!
What a treat! We were caching in Ashland a couple years ago in the bay below Joy’s or Anglers All or whatever it’s called now, and something came toward us in the morning mist. Turned out to be four otters enjoying an early morning swim. Such fun.
The portion of the caches on highway 6 were a safety risk, in my opinion, but the first 900 on 375? We traveled during daylight only, and if we saw 10 other cars that 7-8 hours, I’d be surprised.
As for stats? We all enjoy them, but we all know they don’t mean a whole lot, no matter how you look at them. Sure we grabbed a big bunch, but I’d hold our D/T up, too. We do all right there, considering we seem to have this little problem with going out and getting whatever is in our path on a regular basis. 😉
Our own stats, other than what we chose to post, have been hidden because they’re for our own fun only. Like I said….there’s all kinds of ways for folks of all types to have fun at this, and it’s a shame that some had to mess it up for those who love this kind of approach. There are many who do.
Dave,
Not all of us felt that way. The big numbers were a side benefit of taking part in an interesting experience, at least for me. And we kept safety first.
Congratulations…..we’d solved this while sitting in our room in Mayville and thought about taking the long road home next day. You got to have a memorable milestone with a FTF as part of the deal!
I had noticed this cache while looking around to see what direction I might want to go after my storytelling gig in Madison next week. Sorry to hear this. There was a Spanish American War veteran who lived in town here in his own home until he died 20-25 years ago. I’d see him making his way to his mailbox and thought about all the stories he could tell. Thanks for helping more of us learn Mr. Buckles’ story.
You know, I don’t ever like to say “never” and the ET Highway was an example of that. When we heard of it, our initial reaction was “what the…?” Those who know us know the stuff we relish is the classic hike or paddle or whatever, and the guardrails are found along the way to get to those. But we still do those guardrails. 😉
When friends invited us to join them on this escapade, I figured I could try it. While not something I have any great desire to repeat, for this kind of “run,” it took us to a very lightly traveled highway in a starkly beautiful area with some history to go with it. It’s easy to say “I would never do that” and many of us like to think we seek quality, and we do. But sometimes, like Halloween, it’s fun to step out of character and be someone else, and this was a decent way to do that. It’s a shame that the actions of some ruined it for everyone else, but you could see it coming.
I have seen the sport change immensely since we started and like most things in life, nothing stays the same and we all long for the good old days. Honestly, with all the things going on in the world, this is the least of my concerns (which of course is easy to say, since I had the chance to do the series).
Congratulations, great day to mark that one.
The tutorial is clear, but kind of stops partway through. It’s set up for a more complicated style cartridge than this first one I want to do, which is basically a tour. But they have a lot of resources and links to other places to help. And I think even I can figure out whether or not I need to include tasks that involve lots of inventory, or just make it simple, with a little fun thrown in.
It did take a couple days before I got my account.
Well, guess I’m pretty much talking to myself here, but at least that way I know I’m being heard. 🙄 I’ve been picking my way through this project tiny steps at a time and so far, so good. Previously, I had done all my writing and gathering of info ahead of time and saved it to be transferred, so I don’t have to do that again. With the official builder, I kept getting the darn error message whenever I tried to re-open my work and continue. With this new builder, I’ve opened and closed it after editing/building multiple times with no issue at all.
I have a loooong way to go yet before asking a couple people to try it out with their various devices, but hopefully it will be coming. Though I can’t end it as planned originally, I think I can follow it through and find a reasonable place for the hide. My original choice fit the theme a lot better, but I’m probably the only one who even cared abou that!
What about all the state trails that require purchase of a pass if you want to use them for biking and such? 😯
No, ticks are way worse than earwigs. Ask Trekkin’!
Yes, it is kind of a funny name. But it seems to be easier for a dork to use.
Very tempting, we’ll have to see how things transpire this summer. Thanks for the heads up!
Just poked around and the original is in Northern California, published about two years ago. A Wisconsin version would be a fun addition to the state’s challenges for those of us who enjoy those types of caches. Looking forward to it!
