Probably Jim. Who knows? My mind was taken over by aliens and if I never see another film can or drive up cache again, I’ll die happy. The promise of Death Valley, Red Rock Canyon hiking and Nevada’s oldest, done with great friends, is what got me to do this crazy thing. Never, ever again. Ever. If my mind wasn’t taken over by aliens before, this mindless logging will make it vulnerable to alien mind melds! Better don my aluminum foil cap!
P.S. Trekkin’s refusal to board any kind of aircraft served him well. Except for the aforementioned cool stuff, he’d love those.
Congratulations, Tim. That’s a neat area, we hope to hunt those caches sometime soon. Closing in on 3K!
Congratulations Brett. That’s a boatload of finds, glad to have shared a few of those along the way.
Thanks for the invite! We have cached very little over that way and hope to get some time to do more one of these days. Nice to have a recommendation for a good place for coffee, too!
Few days late for that one, isn’t it? Or is that part of the ruse here? At any rate, we’ve got it down.
Awesome, you guys! We noticed you were racking up the miles in pursuit of this, glad it paid off. Great way to mark this anniversary, too.
Yup, that there’s the kind of cache we love. Thanks HP!
Thanks Tom, We haven’t done that one yet and I wondered about it. Tried looking around some other resources to see if my suspicions were correct. Thanks!
Well, he bought it back, then. It wasn’t funny at the time, but when the mall called me about a week after the wedding and told me they found it, get this, swept up in a dirt pile….well, you just can’t help but laugh at that!
He won’t pawn something with that much history behind it. Well, maybe not. 🙄
You guys have led a really deprived childhood, LOL.
Although where I grew up, instead of hitting fenderburgs, we went chunk kicking. Regional dialect thing, I’m sure!
Speaking of tchotchkes, I’m really hopeful that our very nice reviewer will approve our newest cache, which will allow all who seek it to pick up all the fun tchotchkes they can! Way more fun than these highly valuable souvenirs.
And another btw….the folks in Minnesota are trying to develop a revised blurb, because they aren’t real happy with the emphasis on malls. Southdale? Pfft! The only time I went there, they lost Trekkin’s wedding band and he had to get married with a cigar band. True story.
Welcome, yes, I was in Hawaii summer before last and can attest to the difference in caches. My friend and I, traveling up the Pali highway, would say, “I’d hate to travel this in winter,” then do the duh headslap. Have fun and bring some of the sunshine back with you!
Brian, That would be awesome. Sure, Cuppa Caching, why not? I missed that post somehow, but keep us informed.
I’d love to do that, actually. We’d hoped to get up to Door County during our Christmas break, but that didn’t happen. This is the type of response we’re hoping to see, from folks where there aren’t typically events already occurring, especially at those “fringe” areas of the state. I suspect there are caching communities out there, cause someone’s putting out caches. A fall event might be really fun up there….we’ve visited every other season ourselves (and love winter the most).
I know there has been a fairly concerted effort, and if memory serves, the issue was taken up (again) sometime last year. The WGA offered to meet in person with the appropriate DOT representatives after a well written rationale for creating a policy to allow caches in rest areas. That offer was declined, but the proposal was taken to a committee to consider. There was a response that said….”No go.”
It has not been for lack of trying, for sure. You’re right that maybe words from out of state “tourists” would have some impact, though.
Thanks Alex, We have been thinking about ways we might be able to work around it. I’ve put a lot of time and research into this, as well as obtaining permissions, and it would be nice to see this through to completion some time.
