Congratulations Pete on meeting that goal. And I remember when you were just getting 200! 😉 (I know, I say that for almost all your milestones, but I do!)
Rick, Doctoral studies trumps geocaching goals, IMO. Go you! Where are you doing this, if you don’t mind?
Chris, It all comes down to personal choice and what a person is able to do with the resources they have. It’s a three hour one way trip for me for those events. I made it to most of them, as well as others like High Cliff that were at least that far. Lake Wissota was the closest event during my tenure and it was still three hours round trip…twice, because I was on hand during the temp hiding that still occurred at that time.
I’m not running again, but it’s not due to the commitment to take time and travel. There are many ways members can still contribute to the organization as a whole without being a board member, and that’s what I hope to do after my term is over. You are serving as well as a valuable member of the website committee. I thank you for that.
Alan, Congratulations on hitting a big milestone to finish off the year. Glad we’ve been able to do a few of those along the way with you!
We always have many goals….
Complete the WRR and Waterfall Challenges
Finish up the Minnesota DeLorme
Place our 100th hide (hopefully fairly soon)
Take part in at least three spring birding trips
Work on some of my scrapbooks
Attend at least one quality fur trade event
Complete the Warrior Dash without injury
Hopefully make our trip to SD and Nebraska to cache and to visit the Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron…we’ve planned that trip three times the past two summers and something always happensYou may notice some aren’t specifically geocaching, but in a way, they are. Though we cached more steadily this past year, we did meet a goal to not allow geocaching to dominate our worlds so much, and got out, did other things, and some weekends, didn’t cache at all. We hope to continue that trend and do a better job of returning to old interests this year.
BTW, BBG, Lost Falls is well worth the trip. Not only is ground zero breathtaking, but the nice long hike to get there is wonderful. Try doing it in the spring, when the wildflowers are blooming, if you can.
Thanks for sharing that, Jeff. As someone whose work often involves kids in wheelchairs (and who has been with them on field trips), we encounter 1 terrain caches and think….no way!
My experience is exactly the same as GLS’s. I use an Oregon 300. We’ve done all the WIGs in the state except the brand new one, and a few in other states, too.
Michael, Is that what you’re doing with your souvenirs????? 🙄
Thanks Pat! 😉
Congratulations…yes, I recall a post in which he said something about wanting to get to 2000. LOL
Yup, puzzle heaven up around Menasha/Appleton/Green Bay. Welcome to the other side of the Cheddar Curtain.
I’m signed up for that wave as well.
Nate, Which date and wave time did you choose? As for Brian…yeah, I used to be young and fit once! We’ve hiked up those hills to find caches of yours, well worth the hike, but way beyond our skills now! Have at it!
(BTW, when I *was* young and fit, hills were my forte…but not with my knee problems now).
Dave, Are you? I’m sending in my entry. I had the goal of running a full marathon when I turned 40, but the injury prevented me from ever doing that. I provided support for Trekkin’ for several marathons, if he doesn’t want to do this, he can cache in the area and meet me all muddy at the end. I think it looks like a major blast myself, not sure why he doesn’t feel the same.
It’s not exactly caching related, but one of Santa’s elves, who shall remain nameless (Mrs. drhaas) informed Trekkin’ that I wanted one of these…..

…so I was told to go order one. I’m sure it will come in handy when the water is not hard anymore and we want to get to some of the river caches on our to do list.
