Brian, I can’t sell him on it. I keep telling him….”Remember when we were doing the running circuit, and we’d be so impressed by those ‘old fogies’ who’d get out ahead of us? Now *we* could be those old fogies!”
He claims old fogeyhood has made him wiser. I still want to do this. How about you, Brian? Once on the course, I would just have fun no matter who’s around (and would probably be placed in a slow wave, anyway), but it would be great to get a few people together to anticipate beforehand and commiserate afterward. This one’s even closer to you, too. Even with my banged up patellae, I could do this much and slog it having fun.
Mike, he prefers the term “frugal.” We haven’t done the race circuit in so many years, he doesn’t realize that’s a pretty typical entry fee nowadays for a big race.
I’d love to do it just to show we still have a little spunk left at our age. I might be going solo on this one, however.
Unless some others here are so inclined… Mud, dodging deadfalls, climbing, dark forests. Doesn’t sound too different from our favorite cache hunts, does it?
I’m with you on that, LB7. If *only* there were that many true favorites. We’re not done listing ours, but we sure don’t need the number we have.
I did notice something interesting with the stats….it seems to automatically update some of those charts now. I haven’t done a My Finds for a couple weeks, but the chart on the stat tab has all our finds on it. The html one from generating our last my find, shown on our main profile page, is still stuck in time.
Ralph, You must have been working or have a life or something…groundspeak bought the mygeocachingprofile site.
That said, I would like a way to hide the stats. We have some on our profile, and like everyone else who plays this game, we like looking at them, but I guess when they’re pushing for “quality,” I have to wonder why everyone’s numbers are now even more out there than they already were. Just my strange and probably not popular point of view. I know we don’t need as many “favorites” as we’ve been given….a thought related to my prior comment. 😈
I tried to see the whole alien head out in Nevada on that new map thingie, but it doesn’t show. I know someone found all of them in the past week, so I would think most are still out there.
I wish I could comment, but at this point, all I get is “503 Service Unavailable” when I try to go there.
Looking forward to seeing what they’ve done, though.
LOL at sweetlife’s response!
Alex, You’re running on a Mac, right? I’m on a PC. For some unexplained reason, when I was trying to build mine, I’d be able to save my work, but then never be able open it up again. I’d get some conflict error about a 64 bit thing. I wonder if I used a Mac if I could get things to work out. GLS says his system runs on Vista also and he never got that message. Go figure.
I have given up, as the place I’d intended to have the final has been taken over and I don’t want to compromise and stick it somewhere else that has no connection to my topic and storyline. But I have all the hours of research, photos and storyline all written up in case things change down the road, and I’d still like to make it work. This was going to be the WRR 31 cache, too.
What the heck, they didn’t bring an angel along? 🙄 Congratulations Brian, well done!
Thanks Chris! We’ve done most of the caches in the St. Croix/Osceola area, but haven’t been to Willow River at all. And I know we didn’t get quite everything in Hudson yet. Might make for some fun snowshoeing, too. If we can resolve Trekkin’s issues with turf toe and ski boots, then that would be even better. Despite wanting to head for less snow, if we know the caches are more or less findable, that might be fun! Looking forward to it (I hope).
Congratulations on a well earned milestone. A week later than planned, but no less sweet, right?
Thanks, I was wondering about that one, especially given some DNFs, but we can maybe get up that way to give it the old college try. There’s a letterbox hybrid up that way we want to get, anyway!
We don’t have 4WD, so the WRR stuff will have to mostly finish up next spring. There might be a few we can manage, but there’s usually a reason they’re called “rustic.” We wanted to finish up both of these challenges in the next few months. Both of them highlight the kinds of places we love that caching helps us discover.
I agree, it sure would be nice to know just where these samples are drilled. There are a couple within an hour or so we still haven’t found and maybe by the time our break comes, more ice will have developed. In our region, what’s concerning is the huge amount of snow cover that we have. That stuff makes for a nice insulating blanket, plus you can’t see the ice to read it.
Thanks Ralph. By my count, we need three more falls. One of those could be Grandfather Falls when we go to get the final (and I think we have two chances there, right?)
Our winter break is coming up quickly and though we have tentative plans for one trip, it would be fun to try and wrap this one up, too. Plus, falls in the winter can be so awesome.
Well, the falls do move, ya know! Just not at a rate we can fathom, LOL. So are they gonna be stinkers to find right now? I’ll keep you in mind for big falls. Darn thing is, we drove right past it when we did that epic Shawano WIG last summer. 😡
There’s also a nice, new unfound EarthCache up in Amnicon Falls State Park!
Heck, I think the Wisconsin counties final is just north of 10, near Neillsville. There’s a goal for you! 😉 -
