No, it’s not a problem at all….more like a problem removed! It’s an interesting process and I enjoyed the research part of getting it ready, but trying to get that program to work with my Vista was a boatload of trouble for me. I was at a point where I had to try and load some kind of “patch” to override the problems and kept avoiding that step. We can hang on to your cache and get it Christmas Day now, when we “need” a cache for our calendar.
We don’t worry about things in our area that are out of our league (and there are about a half dozen of those for us). There’s always going to be something out there we either can’t or won’t do, and that’s okay by us. Someone else might love those things. As a good friend likes to say, you can’t shovel the ocean. 😉
I don’t need to worry about this anymore, LOL. I had written up all my stuff after developing my storyline and taking photos and so on, then battled a bit with that WIG software. Set it aside when I literally developed a migraine. Wake up today to see a new cache right where I would have put it, and since I can’t think of another location that would make sense….problem solved! Hurray!
I would have loved to finish the project, but I learned a lot in the process, and since the software wasn’t made to keep pace with newer OS and to make sense for dummies, it was a blessing in disguise here. Whew! I have never been so frustrated by a caching conundrum as trying to create one of those buggers. I was ready to take up another cacher’s offer to help me pull it together, but now we’re both off the hook. No WIG in this part of the state, at least from me!
If you can hold off till spring, many outfitters will have demo days, where you can get out on the water and try them out for yourself. I was surprised at how they seemed pretty similar, but just one felt right for me. I ended up with a Kestral by Current Designs, which is Wenonah canoes. It is not the cheapest out there, but it is probably the only one I’ll ever buy, so I wanted to be sure to get what I wanted. Composite ones are really light, but you have to take more care with them to keep them from getting wrecked, so I went with the heavy plastic or whatever it is.
Another option would be to look at the websites for all the companies that outfit people for trips…there are usually deals at the end of the season on used ones they don’t want, and you know if they were rentals and still good for sale, you should be safe.
A two person kayak is also called a divorce boat, so your decision is a wise one!
Pants and deet are no guarantee against them….just ask Trekkin. It hasn’t helped him.
That mirror thingie, a retractable magnet thing and a mess of GPSr units. Many containers of assorted types. The rest of our arsenal we had as a result of HBC (hobbies before caching).
I do know someone who got passage for an Inside Passage Cruise providing storytelling. Closest I’ve come to that is a trip on the Julia Belle Swain up to the lock and dam on the river….telling stories for my fare.
Yeah, I thought about that possibility. 🙄 I think its own icon would be a better deal….geocachers “get” something for helping promote the show. And not a souvenir. We have two. We did have three, but lost the Delaware one. Not sure why we had it, anyway. Never been there.
Ralph, I visited Conwy on one of my trips there and agree. Upon returning home, I discovered I probably walked right past any number of geocaches.
I vowed I would return and hike the trails in Snowdonia. That’s not right in the mega event area, but it’s not a big country and we could certainly go there before or after. I think it would be just grand.
It would be cool if it gets its own icon, like the APE caches. Perhaps it may!
Mike, that is EXACTLY what Trekkin’ says.
I don’t know if we have the means or not, would have to look into costs. But since I’m *probably* retiring after this school year, it could be a great way to celebrate.
Congratulations on a big number!
Oh, now that’s scary! I can actually eat off the senior menu at Perkins, IHOP and take advantage of ShopKo’s senior discount day these days. So I guess I come by my memory loss honestly.
Now John is scary if he could remember my first time posting it and dig it up here! 😯
Senior moments, I guess. I claim aging gray matter as my defense!
Yeah Gary, I try not to think about the TSA stuff, but it’s part of the process. If he won’t fly, I’ll probably do what I’ve done many times….find a friend who wants to go. Newfoundland, Hawaii, four People to People trips….there is always a way! He won’t take the drug, either. So basically as far as trying to calm him, I’m outta luck. Our scary flight was truly scary and it took me 14 years to move beyond it. There’s just something about a near crash in the North Sea that kind of kills the joy for you.
I’d be happy if we could ever pull off even a long distance driving trip. Something always seems to come up….new grandkids, miserable weather, no dog sitter available. These days, we consider it a gift to make it as far as Duluth.
Congratulations you guys! We haven’t done this series yet, but have always enjoyed the caches you place, so it’s well deserved.
