Loved seeing Flat Jack in all those locations in the cache logs! Congrats!
Field puzzle icon? Must be some inside joke there, all I’m seeing is the good old question marks.
Congratulations on a big milestone! Even better to share it with family.
Trekkin’ talked to Steve last night, and it’s just him and his son-in-law driving to these. Not our cup of tea, but I’m sure those two have been having a blast, which will make memories for them when it’s all said and done.
Rick, you really put a great spin on this. I’ll tell ya……Haas must be caching in his sleep, because our phone rang at 1:43AM last night, there was someone there but not saying anything, not a dial tone….and caller id showed it was him! LOL
Congratulations……we all have our fun in our own way, and I know this is a blast for you!
Thanks Will. That one sure gathers all kinds of interesting and meaningless information, doesn’t it? Everything you ever wanted to know about your geocaching behavior! LOL
Dave, Thanks for linking to Genius Loci’s excellent commentary. I enjoy a truly clever hide as much as the next person, but “clever” and “just plain tough” are not often the same thing. Anytime some part of nature is altered, like drilling into live trees, I struggle with that concept, even though it is indeed clever. This time of year I REALLY hate pine tree hides more than ever, because often as not, birds are nesting in there, too. I’ll generally walk away from those and if I can come back later after the birds have fledged, i will. In one case, because I’d seen quite a few “nest” hides, I almost took a real nesting Mourning Dove for a cache.
Our environment has enough with which to contend without creating situations that bring us kooks (including myself and Trekkin’ in the group) into the woods where we might lose judgement in our desperation for a smiley. Speaking just for myself and Trekkin’, we’re finding ourselves walking away from caches that aren’t our thing. We don’t need those smileys and can walk away from them. I know others just love them, and there’s room for all, but I do think as the hobby evolves, at times sight is lost of the original intent.
Ralph,
I thought I did read carefully….I’m claiming advancing age for my lack of clarity! [:)] Also, I thought since you’d suggested using the bookmark to check progress meant that you’d add things that got missed in building it. So now I C W Y M!!! I did get that you can only use one cache per falls.
As for the classic there…..we just didn’t even know it was there, as the map “stacks’ the two caches and I’d built our travels from the map. Get back to the cabin and TE asks if we got the Lil’ Otter one, too.
There were TWO?
Ralph,
If I’m understanding correctly, if there are two caches featuring the same falls, you have listed the older one. There is also a newer one at Potato Falls that isn’t on the bookmark.
We missed the classic. Don’t ask!

06/22/2010 at 1:18 am in reply to: Interesting observation……month for most cache placements #1931544I didn’t break it down that closely, but I can see we never placed any caches during the months of July or August. Guess we better take care of that! Overall, it looks like we’ve placed more in the late fall/winter/early spring months. Not so many during the hotter ones.
Congratulations to you. That cache is still sitting on our solved but not yet found pile. Looks like a great one for your milestone!
There are macros for GSAK available for many of the challenge caches as well. They aren’t all completely bulletproof, though. The WRC one says we qualify for Komplete Geocaching IL style, but neglects to take into account the required number of finds that have to be from IL and from the GONIL region. So it’s not entirely perfect.
Congratulations Barry and Val! Our money was on you guys, as we happen to know TE is out of the area right now, although I’m pretty sure they must qualify, too. We look forward to visiting a few more of the state’s gorgeous sites and signing in on that log as well.
Congratulations on what must surely have been a fun milestone!
You may want to consider adding this one to your bookmark.

And no. We have not found it. Yet!
