Where’s Pete’s Hamburgers???
Prairie du Chien. We were there for my mom’s 80th birthday. Some of the family went to Pete’s, but I was not among them. I think that I was looking for plastic boxes at the time.
I have never understood the appeal of Pete’s, unless you like grease. JMO Lots of people disagree with me!
Not looking forward to this day. Yesterday morning a kindergarten student from our school was hit by a school bus and died from his injuries. We were advised by the State Patrol and school administration not to discuss the incident with our students until the investigators released the information. In fact, we were given very little information about the incident, but the rumor mills are churning, and by the time the opening bell rings I’m sure that every kid in school will have heard something about it, factual or not.
That is just horrible, Jim. We had numerous tragedies at our school, partly but not completely due to the fact that we had many medically fragile kids in our special ed program. I can never forget the school year at our final staff meeting that our principal said…..We didn’t have any students die this year. It is so, so very hard.
My bird feeder guardian is still on the job.
That’s a cool guardian you’ve got there.
I get my first dose tomorrow. Then one more week with this stupid splint.
Today I managed non-chair yoga but no down dogs or anything like that. And played some simple tunes on the dulcimer. My thumb hurts when I wiggle it certain ways….hope that won’t be an ongoing issue.
As of yesterday, my busted wrist had internal ‘jewelry’ installed. I’m told that when healed and with time, downward dog should be part of my life again.
Weirdly, while I was sedated, I dreamt of Bernie’s mittens.
Today’s excitement..I broke my left wrist ice skating today. The restraints to keep it immobile are way more restrictive than when I broke my right humerus 8 years ago. Life is always an adventure.
Foggy morning here. We went out yesterday for our First Hike and explored some of the new trails that opened this fall around Grandads Bluff. Lots of work and the results are wonderful. I am also excited to see that the American Birding Association’s Bird of the Year, announced at midnight yesterday, is…..Pileated Woodpecker. It’s my year!
Not a lot of snow here…yet….but it was enough to get out on my xc skis this morning. Long dry spell between kayak season and ski season, that was rough! 😉
Not looking good for any astrophotography fun tonight, at least around here. It figures.
Craphas missed us here in the Driftless….at least for now.
We’ve been doing our part……28 new caches placed since the pandemic began, plus two Adventure Labs….but one of those and its bonus are in Minnesota. We have been archiving stuff too….the ammo can thefts continue and we aren’t giving whoever it is the satisfaction of replacing them with anything, even bison tubes. The one that really stung was the letterbox hybrid we placed to honor our grand-daughter. The stamp I made for that one was a favorite….now….gone.
Trekkin’ hasn’t been out for the regular gun deer season in years. He hunts with blackpowder and has gone out during those seasons, but not lately. Too much CWD. He can “hunt” without a gun now.
What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving this year? We have had typically small gatherings, just my sons and their families….so only 7 people. But three of those people now live in Colorado. We’ve agreed that I’ll make thanksgiving stuff, call my son when I’m ready to drop off their half and then leave it on their deck. And…..we are only putting up our sad, sad fake Charlie Brown tree for Christmas this year. No one will be here for it, anyway. One less place where we’ll be running into maskless people that way.
What a long strange trip it’s been.
I don’t wish to discuss technology, having spent the better part of this morning trying to send my video of my story for the Friends of the Mississippi River event this Thursday. Hopefully they now have it.
This, however, is big news, at least if you’re a birder. I am the proud owner of a state’s first breeding record for a species. Read more at this link….
Starting tomorrow, our grand-daughter will be here for her online school, since her mom, who was let go from the local Chamber due to the pandemic, (non-profit, lost funding, last hired, first let go) finally found something full time that starts tomorrow. Kind of cuts into our caching possibilities in the near future, but I’m glad we’re here to help out. I do not know what we’d have done if something like this happened when our boys were young….probably one of us would have had to take a leave of absence. Good luck to all the teachers….this is just one more thing, and people need to remember not to scapegoat our educators for everything….for a change.
Wow, I feel like I just witnessed an episode of Animal Planet! We have one of those egress windows in our basement spare room (where my computer is located). In the rock bed we have a sump pump sunk into the rocks to deal with water in the basement. There are holes drilled in the bucket that holds the pump to allow water to drain into there. I was hearing this noise. Often after rain, toads get in there somehow, even though we have a window cover over the ground level opening. So I look and there’s a vole running around in there. He falls into the bucket and starts climbing up the plastic sides, looking for the opening. All of a sudden, a leopard frog appears in there literally from nowhere (probably one of those holes) and the vole grabs its leg and they start battling. It was fascinating and horrible to see. The two vanished into that hole, but now the vole is back. So is a mousetrap.
