We got those Hixon caches. I just an a “words” person, so we sat and admired the surroundings until it clicked for me.
I can see the many advantages and they make sense….just not for us! Total Luddites! Thanks for all your responses; there are uses I had not even considered.
I thought there was a new WSQ in Rapids this month?
Our grandson has gone caching with us, but he’s not of much use at this point, other than maybe a “cute” distraction for onlookers!
We like climbing the trees and usually have to flip a coin to see who gets to go up! Like I said, not a kid in years, but at heart!
That’s always been our approach as well. Kids can sometimes even come in helpful in getting the cache retrieved for those of us who are only kids at heart now. Trekkin’ had just such an experience caching in Rochester MN.
I guess I like an ammo can in the woods as much as anyone, but am willing to make the trade-off to clear containers if it will help us create better partnerships with our park rangers. Better partnerships ultimately lead to more cache placement opportunities. I guess I can see in this day and age why this might be a concern. I have seen some city parks that state the containers must be clear, too. I think some of the caches in Wisconsin Rapids make this statement in the cache listings.
Well Gary, we’re joining the ranks of fancy Oregon users any day now, thanks to a “preferred customer” email and deep discount. Not as fancy as yours, but fancier than what we have now!
And yes….it will eliminate us hauling the nuvi along for the write ups and such. But I still don’t want to be surfing the web while out on the trail. That’s just me, though (and the even more Luddite Trekkin’).
Just means all those T5s will be a bit more solid. After hauling canoes and/or kayaks around and arranging shuttles, we are beginning to see the appeal of finding them in the winter when they’re some distance away!
I have an ipod with bird calls on it. I, too, might put songs on it one day!
Well, all bets are off now, anyway. Trekkin’ found a cache on his way home from school, so the symmetry is spoiled. I don’t even want to think about the implications of TBC’s mathematical musings here! 🙄
Compassion should not know boundaries. I have no doubt that those who have found it in their hearts to help the people of Haiti have also found it in their hearts to help those in their backyards.
The partisan bickering we could all do without, but disaster of this scale goes beyond any of that. As does the plight of the homeless, the hungry and others who suffer in our backyards. I see them at my school every day. People have reached into their own pockets to help those families when the need is identified.
My opinion.
Do you charge differently for the LEs? It’s a cool idea.
Brownies are good. They’re chocolate, aren’t they? 😉
Nope. We cache without paper. All that’s needed is something like a PDA or the fancy Oregon GPSr that all the cool kids have. We’re not cool, so we use our nuvi like a PDA.
Ralph, Thanks for sharing that…we’d hoped to get to this event, as it’s always been a fun time, but the lousy weather on our end early in the day kept us sticking around home…..and wishing that weather had gone elsewhere.
Congrats on what has become a geocaching tradition in the state!
Just remember….this idea came from my home state!
Will probably hit the “submit” button sometime in the next 24 hours, so stay tuned!
