Let’s all go at once, LOL.
Yeah, me too, Shane. I can always find a use for ten bucks at Gander! Really nice of that store’s management to make this offer and I wonder how long it will last.
I agree, I think by “commercial,” groundspeak means something that requires you to make a purchase of some type…..movie tickets, attraction entry fees, whatever. We looked into the possibility of creating an EarthCache at Cave of the Mounds, which requires an entry fee. That’s considered a commercial cache (and one we have permission from groundspeak to pursue, but we haven’t thus far).
The now-much sought after remaining Project APE caches were commercial. They served as a tie-in to a movie release, much like McDonald Spiderman toys.
But we still want to do that APE cache someday!
😉
Well, you could keep the thread title, you know….there was an effort back in the 60s and 70s to break away and make the UP and northern Wisconsin “Superior, the 51st State.”
Trekkin’ owned a t-shirt. Mr. TE might, too. 😉
Marc,
Thank you. It’s easy to get wrapped up in “important issues” when we feel passionate about what we do. Time and again, on *any* message board of which I’ve been a part, I’ve seen folks get so wound up about something that is really not a big deal. Things like the tragedy that is Haiti ARE a big deal. I heard a story this morning on my way to work. A woman and her son were hoping a bus driver would take them for free to the outlying areas. It costs $20 a person for that ride. Her belongings, including her money, were lost in the rubble.
That is such a small amount of money. A tank of gas to go on one of your tours, perhaps. Thank you again for reminding us to keep everything in perspective.
Well, maybe we should see if our brother-in-law in DePere would like to take us on a three hour tour in his big boat next summer. We’re not chickens about ice, but conditions can change on such a big body of water and if happens a mile out…..well, I can’t swim that far.
I heard that the trucks that went through were volunteers working on creating reefs for fish habitat. My thoughts go out to the family.
The archived Gauntlet has a big watchlist…..that came up in another discussion recently. I’ll be interested to see what others post here.
This one would require Dick boarding an airplane (not to mention tons of money!) and it ain’t gonna happen!
Congrats on a wet and undoubtably fun milestone.
There must be a pretty good story behind this one if the law is involved! Congratulations!
Most people who like FTFs are happy enough with simply being there first. Just ask zuma or Trekkin’!
We’ve put small things in a couple of ours. We’ve found gift cards in a few of the ones we’ve been FTF on, for places like Kwik Trip or Mickey Ds. A couple geocoins. A set of TB tags. Including a prize is fun but entirely optional.
Congratulations Brian….on both milestones!
OPS, We tried to approach Pratts in the fall, and the “road,” if you could call it that (Happy Hollow) was so bad, I’m not even sure I’d have tried it with an ATV. We figured sometime when we had more time, we’d park at the start of that road and start hiking. I know not everyone is willing to hoof it a mile or more, but with enough time, it could be fun. It could certainly qualify for epic, I think.
The rock one might be possible in the winter, depending on how the snow piles up. It was one of the best of this type we’ve ever found, very cleverly done.
That one will very likely be tough in winter. It’s a good one, though.
There’s one we want to do that will probably involve quite a hike, Pratt’s Peak. Also the breakwaters in Ashland.
We’re still hoping we can make this, but are learning that trying to plan for anything is really a challenge for us these days. If it’s not one thing, it’s another, as we learned yesterday with the much anticipated Wet Maze outing.
