We’re seriously considering this, thanks for the heads up. Trekkin’ was born a Yooper but he’ll go below the bridge! (which is how we’d travel there, anyway). [;)]
Congratulations on reaching a frosty silver!
Amita, watch your pms! 😉 Trying to stay true to the cache’s original intent, is all.
So eloquently written, Tim. Like you, we think many of the really great caches get overlooked in the COTM and don’t vote if we haven’t found them ourselves (which we hardly ever vote anymore), but we’d encourage all who have hunted this one to vote this one time. I’d love to see one like this take the honors.
Congratulations and on behalf of cache seekers throughout the state, thanks for helping to keep the quality of the hunt high with all your finds and checks!
Lost Falls could almost be an epic cache of its own, especially this time of year. It is really an awesome place. If you haven’t visited Twin Falls, that one is worth your time, too. There’s one up in the peninsula we still want to visit but will have to hike a distance….Pratt’s Peak. When we tried to approach it last time, the “road” looked like something only a tricked out big wheel ATV could navigate and we had a lot of other places we wanted to visit that day.
This one was archived not long after we started playing, when there was still a ton of stuff for us to find close to home. How I wish we’d made the drive to enjoy it, it is still the stuff of legends, isn’t it? 😉
I have found them at Target, too. Also the W-store, though I usually shop Target or ShopKo before heading here.
I don’t believe the Penneys by us has a housewares department, though. Wonder if we could place a shipping free order from the store? I like the smaller lock and locks for my letterbox hybrids.
Thanks, we’re still not certain we’re going, but that helps us to think about what else we might be able to do while over there.
Of those on this list, here are some we’ve done that would not need a boat and are not on islands.
PU What a Stinker.
The BLCSome on islands but I’m not sure if there’d ever be safe ice to reach them are those GWWRKK ones in Wausau.
The Scooby Doo and Beast of Big Island ones are islands, but again, not sure if the ice is safe there.
Spires Tribute is an island. Might be winter accessible, not sure.
Lucille, I doubt it. In fact, I think Rick Blick tried and came back with paddles.
Black River Canoe cache probably not, but there is a land-based approach as well, if one doesn’t mind a really looooong hike. I’ve done it both ways.
Renos Sandbar, we’re locals and I’m just never real comfortable crossing the Mississippi except in a few really local coves filled with ice fishermen.
Mile 13–Heck, we didn’t need no stinkin’ boat, and neither did Honeybunnies! Both Trekkin’ and Seth are little guys and they waded or swam over there. Do it the fun way when the weather is warm….
The Sand in your Buns series….again, that’s the Mississippi. None of these islands are very far from shore, but except for the furthest north one, a bit of a distant hike (like at least a mile) from the nearest legal access point. I’d recommend a boat on these.
Stranded in Sherwood, we did that one on hard water in January.
I think the three in the Bone Collector series were done by a group or two in winter, but you have to gather all the clues to the first one before doing any of them. Still one of our favorite series, though.
Hope this helps. We do enjoy the use of paddles, but appreciate the effort on verifying some of these more distant ones we could hunt on hard water.
So…..we’re not so nuts as to be out today with the thermometer reading -10. Tomorrow looks somewhat better. If we were to head over to do these, how long should we plan on it taking? Trying to decide what else we can do while we’re in the neighborhood if we go. Thanks!
Hey, way to go, Mike! Glad to have shared a couple of those with you. 😉
We’ve done the CCS series and none of them are really island caches. There is one of OPS’s near the dam, but I don’t know if it freezes over in winter enough to be safe, someone local could chime in on that one.

Here are some more we hope to do this winter. Sometimes it’s just a pain to haul the canoe all over, though that’s our preferred method of finding such a cache.

These have been done by others in the winter.

What a perfect milestone cache and a great way to start off the year. A big congratulations to you!
This is a great place to learn and connect with other cachers, near and far. Hope we meet you sometime along the trail or at an event….welcome to the WGA!
