Way to go, Justin! So did you walk across the Bay as planned to get there?
A fun choice indeed….congratulations!
Congratulations to you both!
Congratulations, be forewarned….this is just the beginning of many!
So, you got that bathroom finished, eh? Congratulations!
Woo hoo, and you were wondering if you’d cross that big milestone or not? Glad to see you did!
LB, I can’t make it. 😥 I have another commitment. Trekkin’ is contemplating it, however, and if he does, maybe I can send it along with him. Maybe.
Thanks for all the different ideas and resources. I think one way or the other, I feel confident I can save my photos.
Thanks again!
Well Mathman, you were no help, but that made me laugh!
I’m thinking what I’m gonna have to do is find someone who has the same battery OR computer that still makes a connection, beg to either borrow their charged battery, or charge my battery in their laptop. Do any computer geek places do this for a small fee? I probably need the battery to remain charged for only an hour or so while I email the files or save them on a jump drive.
I really should have saved those photos when I could see the computer was going wonky. Darn!
hogrod, what’s going on is the connection at the back of the computer started getting cruddy; if I pushed it just so, it would stay connected, although at times, it would go to battery power and that’s what ran the battery down. Now there is no way I can get that connector to “click,” the computer is effectively ‘dead’ and when I checked into the cost of replacing the needed parts, it was not cost effective. How hard is it to remove the hard drive from the original laptop?
Welcome to the fun, Kelly. We’re in the LaCrosse area if you head down this way.
As for sense of direction? Why do you think we all carry a GPSr? 🙄
I’ve been through this kind of thing with trying to place EarthCaches, too, maybe not quite so over the top, though.
I know it is a matter of being sure that these places are open to traffic. One that is open is Pewit’s Nest, a SNA by Baraboo and an absolutely awesome place for an EC. Yet I was turned down, because they are actually considering trying to close access (which would be shame). It’s a narrow slot canyon and cliff divers play there. Summer before last, one of those guys got killed in the process.
Another example would be Mt. Pisgah in the Kickapoo. Right now, the DNR has closed access, cause of erosion from the heavy rains. They want it to recover some before making it open. There are plants growing there that grow in only three other places in North America, and they want to keep it that way. I suppose that’s kind of the same deal with Parfreys Glen, too.
It is frustrating, but I guess it’s good we have this place to vent away! Hope you can get some resolution before too long!
Okay, I guess since we’re planning to use the handhelds once we get close, we can look at the boxes there. Hopefully I’ll be giving it our first test run tomorrow on a trek to the east!
Dean, Did you have a contact person’s permission and contact info from the LaCrosse Park Department? A permission contact is a must for EarthCache listings or they won’t approve them. Could that be what happened? The reviewers do check with the listed contacts to be sure they actually were asked.
Sometimes the permissions get really complicated and create confusion. For those I did in the Kickapoo Reserve, I needed to have permission from the DNR, the Reserve manager and the HoChunk, as the land is held in trust with them. That’s how I know the reviewers check with the land managers. 😉 I’d missed one step in the process. I am guessing the Granddad’s one would just be LaCrosse Parks, though.
We want to do this series, but there’s no way we’d have the others by then. Have fun!
Congratulations, we did a few of yours just this past weekend!
