Congratulations to you. It was a great weekend to be out chasing caches and milestones!
Way to go, z-man. This is a neck and neck race, isn’t it? LOL
Congratulations, we were honored to be along with you for this one. No, you aren’t addicted at all! 😉
I’m basically wanting to replace our Palm. I know such a thing exists, cause that’s what k0rpl used when we did the WhereIGo in Indiana.
Something I can throw in my pocket while caching, like the old Palm I’m using now. If we were to get any higher tech than that, I think Trekkin’ would have apoplexy!Welcome to the fun, Sara.
We’re near LaCrosse, but we do get around! 😆
I use the logo on my cache listings in Wisconsin. I have not put them on the few we have in Iowa or Minnesota, but after reading Dean’s comment, I can see some value in letting visitors to those caches know where we’re from.
I also am not crazy about the scrolling things, so don’t use that.
I know there have been a couple times we missed out on a cache because of this. At the time, I was looking at the map rather than the nearby list.
I suppose it’s up to the cache owners to do as works best. Some of us have this weird habit of zooming out on a map to see smileys, and 10 stacked up looks like just one, but maybe that’s a plus in this case. It’s a weird habit, anyway! 🙄
Mister Greenthumb, Thanks for giving me a big laugh. We figure we can organize when we’re too feeble to go out and play!
There are those hiking trails up in the hills above where the lake used to be. I would think other than being washed down hill, which is always a possibility almost anywhere around here, that might have possibilities.
I know there was a cache up that way, but certainly seemed like there was plenty of space for more. But I also wasn’t sure just what’s going to be happening there with the dam and all the rest of that. It’s a neat area, one I’d never have explored if not for geocaching.
Somewhat. We know where the GPSr units are. Ditto the hand me down Palm. We grab other items we think we might need, and trade things in and out, like no letterbox stuff if I won’t be finding those. No EarthCache kit if I won’t be finding those.
Contrary to popular opinion, we do NOT have phone notification, nor do we cache with internet on the road. We *sometimes* remember to turn the cell phone on. Sometimes.
There’s the whole other issue of the harder terrain gear we may need to do the caches we favor. Since that gear is not just for caching, well, it falls where it’s stored. Snowshoes. Kayaks, canoes. Ropes. TNt.
Just kidding about the TNT. Though Trekkin’ does shoot blackpowder, so I suppose it could be arranged! 🙄
Everyone is sharing good advice, and I would echo TBC’s advice to look at Jersey County Park. I haven’t been there since all the flooding, so perhaps it’s not open these days, but if it is…..lots of cool spots there for a cache! We’d be out there looking for it.
We’ve learned to target just a few favorite places and do most of our hiding there. It makes it much easier for maintenance runs, and I agree, if they can be off the ground, great. Some hides don’t lend themselves to that. We have a couple that are ground hides. Just be sure to make note of that fact, either through the attributes (mark it with the ‘no snowflake” icon) or even in the cache writeup. Saves people the frustration of looking for something under three feet of snow!
Looking forward to seeing what you hide!
P.S. TBC! That would not be frustration! It would be heaven! Caches that close to home?
Welcome to the “Hit Chart” (ask zuma and Honeybunny about that!). Congratulations! And thanks on behalf of cachers everywhere for the number of hides placed.
Congratulations, wow 40 in a day in the winter in Wisconsin. Can a silver ammo box be far away?
I came to the game after the Locationless caches were dropped, and until recently, didn’t realize that Waymarking had taken their place. I’ve enjoyed playing with that site in particular to add my “finds” to international sites I’ve visited, where I couldn’t go geocaching at the time.
I have a few more new ones I keep meaning to add to the site, too, thanks for the nudge!I log benchmarks as I find them, and though I haven’t pursued it, the whole notion of truly hunting them down is kind of interesting. (Grandfather was a civil engineer, so I guess some of it must have filtered down).
I’ve done a couple webcams. They’re a hoot and if I am in an area where I can do more, I will.
The WhereIGo is intriguing. I agree that these are unique aspects of the game, things that should perhaps be brought more to others’ attention as possible variations. Variety is a good thing.
Welcome to the game. Always fun to hear how others came to discover it, I guess that little icon has merit!
I have a Camry myself. Trekkin’ has a Saturn.
