We’re still getting logs on the one TB still active (apparently) that was placed at a Mega in Texas. “Paddle Faster, I hear banjos.” It’s Trekkin’s worn down first banjo pick and it wants to visit the Banjo Museum in Oklahoma City. Hopefully someone down in Texas will actually pick it up and move it closer for him.
Every other bug or coin we’ve released is long gone, including Tinky Winky (a purple Teletubbie who loves purses), who vanished in DC years ago. *smirk*
Had a full-on weekend of birding, with a break for a couple hours on Saturday to watch my granddaughter’s soccer game. Camped by myself at Wyalusing on Saturday. 101 different birds spotted there on Sunday. I also hiked a trail there I’d never hiked before, and will have to return sometime with the regular lens on my camera. I was loaded for bird photos (of which I took very few, actually).
Next thing you know you’ll be going to the birds. (haha)Too late! Already have! I think Trekkin’ will be happy when the migration is over.I was *this* close to taking a drive to Faribault to see a bird this morning, but decided to be an adult and get a couple things done that needed to be done. Glad I made that choice….no one’s seen it today.
That doesn’t mean I wasn’t up at 5:30 to join others for the bird walk, though. This weekend is full of birding stuff, though I’ll take a break Saturday morning to watch my grand-daughter’s first soccer game. First….I was a soccer mom. Now….I am a soccer grandma!
Happy Birthday to the Wizard of OC! Ooops!
It’s snowing here, if you need someplace for yellow snow.
New life bird early this morning! No photos, but I did get a good enough look for ID by field marks. If it weren’t so freaking cold, I’d have dropped the kayak to get a better look, but I’ll be happy with this and hope another (nice) day they move in closer and sit still for a photo.
Still haven’t seen one of those, but ticks are out and about…even in Minnesota. We were at their spring event today near St. Peter MN and saw a few. Also saw some pretty scenery and wildflowers, at a time when of course I decided not to bother with the camera. We didn’t get nearly all the caches in that pretty park, though, so maybe we can go back for some different blooms!
Ack! The fact that tomorrow will be all day daycare is not helpful to our alternate plans for Saturday. Attempting to solve puzzles and all but the easy one are messing with us! Oh well. Trying to wrap my brain around the Mayan numbering system this morning. Base 20 and Base 5 combined. I get this stuff in theory, but struggle with application!
And the resistor code puzzle is kicking my butt! Way too many numbers to do a simple conversion for a solve. Sigh. My puzzle chops have suffered due to lack of exercise. Another has pigpen, which I can do, but the west coordinates…..not a clue. I hope to solve the Mayan one and an easy one for the way home, LOL
Safe travels! We just couldn’t fit that trip in with our daycare responsibilities and other stuff. Tomorrow is a no school day here, which means….all day with the grands.
Have fun!
My long, drawn out story to give context to what happened……
So, ten or so years ago, our church added on a HUGE fellowship hall. And then just used it for our own “stuff.” No outreach. I’ve long advocated for social programming there beyond our doors, and so when it appeared we’d only do the Mother Daughter banquet and the church rummage sales, I suggested we create an open door community dinner. There was resistance. Quite a lot, actually. “We tried that with the Lutherans one time and no one came.” I pressed on. “You need to try more than once.” “Well, then *those* people will show up here.” “Isn’t that kind of what Jesus suggested?”
Finally they gave it a try. It did have a slow start, but now it’s part of the regular rotation of such meal programs around here, and Hunger Taskforce helps with some of the food, even leaving a table with stuff to be taken on the way out. For the most part, we seem to get a lot of elderly folks who’ve lost their spouse and want company at dinner, but we get the families in need, too. There is always a table near the door with a representative from one of the programs meant to help folks who are struggling.
So last night was this month’s dinner. Our son (who grew up an active member of this congregation, and has been kind of shunned, another story there) and his daughter joined us. They left a little ahead of us. As Trekkin’ and I walked out, the “program lady” made a special point of leaving her table to give us a flyer about their offerings.
Guess Trekkin’ and I need to find new apparel or something. We kind of live in the cleaner versions of geocaching attire most of the time these days! I don’t think we need “job skills training to help us find meaningful work.” We did that. For over 30 years after five or six years of job training for meaningful work! LOL
Mr. GT missed his FTP, but we can hurry this page along so he still has a chance!
Glad they could get that stinker out for you! We had our son at the clinic once when one had really dug in behind his ear (after a church hayride). He was really a tough little guy; the doctor and nurse kept looking at me and wincing as they worked on it.
Trekkin’ found what he thought at first was an old safe, but upon further inspection, realized it was a paper towel dispenser of the type found in public restrooms. Mrs. Pharmdog found a nice pair of men’s boxers!
My pet peeve of the day….
Help me understand if maybe I’m missing some complication or something. Someone posts something they did on facebook related to geocaching yesterday. Invariably someone asks for a gc link. If that’s wanted, can’t they go to our profile and see what we did yesterday to find it themselves?
The geocaching website is all wonky today, so I sure don’t want to go there! I’m just trying to understand why others might need that code provided by us. We did a series. They all have the same name. It’s all we did. If you can get the gc site to work, it’s easy to see what we did yesterday. Am I correct??? I suppose we could be nice and just provide it when making the post, but neither my brain nor Trekkin’s works that way if we decide to post it somewhere online.
I’m done.
Since you’re talking about CITOs….I had an alternative CITO idea. Not sure if it would work, but the local Habitat does a Neighbor Day every spring. I won’t be able to do it this year, but the premise is…people canvass a given neighborhood to see if folks who are elderly, disabled or just plain need some help would like a group to come do things like yard work or small home repairs. That could be the foundation of a type of CITO on a smaller scale. Maybe arrange a project or two with just a couple families. This would require cachers who can meet their commitment to attend, though. And who would stay the course and forgo a caching run, since stuff like this would take more than an hour or two.
