Um, Seth? He was with us, too!
Congrats again.
Okay, I’ll dive into this discussion, even though we’re apparently among the minor players here.
1) Totally agree. We should do this anyway for any cache, to the best of our ability at that time (meaning, did I remember the cache maintenance stuff this time?)
2) Also agree. I do understand Alex’s comments, and have also been in the situation of discovering originals of caches we’d never hunted before after someone replaced them. In the grander scheme of things, it seems wise to only fix a problem cache if the original owner wishes it, or is willing to put it up for adoption. If the intent of the game is to maintain cache quality in Wisconsin, putting things out that will subsequently be ignored is not the best response in those cases.
3) I like the idea of incorporating this into the game more fully, if it’s possible. 10 points would be plenty, and I also agree it should be used for other purposes. We have one we adopted from Lil Otter that could use a little TLC, so that might go onto the list. Snomocachers might be able to help us out in the coming months.
4) I agree, month by month works. Are the prizes really that much of an incentive? We played just for the fun of the hunt and the cool places we discovered. Obviously, minor players that we are, we never won, but we still played, especially earlier in the year. If prizes are the incentive, we could certainly donate a couple more (we already have donated a couple, remember? For big winners’ at the end of the year?) PM me if you don’t remember, Dave, LOL.
5) Honestly, I don’t know if this would change things. I know, for example, we’re willing to travel to areas we haven’t cached before for discovery’s sake. We just haven’t reached a few of those and probably will wait now till spring. If it seems like doing this would encourage greater participation statewide, I guess it’s worth considering, though it seems like it would make things more complicated than they already are.
We’ve enjoyed our run at these. Some we found, some were DNFs. They’ve taken us to the middle of wetlands near Hebron, rock formations near Browntown and a lovely state fisheries area near Black Earth, to name a few. All of them spots we might not have visited otherwise. Others have been pleasant surprises discovered while logging our finds. I appreciate the efforts of Dave and Jeremy in setting this up, and all those players, major or minor, who’ve helped improve the caching experience in the Badger State. THANK YOU!!!

Yes, Super EarthCache Guy, I do indeed think this confirms your earlier comment!
Who knows, if my current efforts for permission falls flat, I may ask you to draw upon your super powers, too!
Congratulations Anne, you really made mincemeat of the Wiouwash Trail!
Great milestone cache, well done!I looked at some of these, too. It may be possible if you can look, for instance, at the geological history that resulted in the terrain, soils, etc, that allowed the forest to develop there.
Maybe a bit of a stretch. Is that a SNA, or another type of management unit? I know some of those aren’t necessarily SNAs.
We were already eyeing up a couple on that list. Still have to ponder how to make either of them cool ECs, though. Mt. Pisgah is off limits these days, after the damage of the past two floods, so it could be a long time before one can be placed there, if at all. There is a virtual very close to the trailhead for Mt. Pisgah, but not quite at it.
Hmm, sounds like THB is throwing down a gauntlet, LOL.
Let the horse race begin! (Where are those horse smileys, anyway?)
You mean there’s a way we can do the html thang without having to make all those funny marks in our write ups?
My son taught me some rudiments of html, and that’s what I’ve been doing to list mine. If there’s an easier way……
Yes, the Mighty Z-Man politely dropped this bomb right in our own playground, too!
Looks like a fun challenge, and I know Mr. LB7 was offering his services to help develop EarthCaches. Take a look at the blank spots here and that would be a good place to start. Looking forward to discovering even more of the state’s wonders while pursuing this one.
So….what can we be looking forward to?
I had coordinates and information for a fun one in Devil’s Lake State Park, but hadn’t heard anything back from the park manager. So I go to look for the info to write again and discover…..Trekkin’ cleared those coords out of the GPSr! Ack! I don’t know where my written info went!
It can wait. It’s not all the winter friendly of a hike, anyway. Like probably at least a 4 terrain.
Oh, that would be fun. The site itself looks sort of boring, but it sounds like other areas of the park are nice, too. The whole concept for this one is fun, too.
I cannot believe, however, that if you saw those falls with a fire in them, that you wouldn’t remember something like that!
He refuses. To be fair to him, he does have a somewhat good basis for not wanting to fly, in that our return trip from the UK where we honeymooned resulted in a series of air issues that almost had us going down in the North Sea.
I didn’t fly for another 14 years after that, but figured, nothing can be as bad as that was. It hasn’t. He’s just more stubborn!
Yeah, I was hoping to see more responses. There’s sure a lot of activity on the “would you delete” thread, and it’s not anything new now. Shift attention, folks!
I want so bad to go to Hawaii and do that 4/5 one FuFu is doing, where you kayak. Trekkin’ will NOT fly, but I have a non-caching friend who is seriously considering it. She knows the caching takes me hiking and such, so that’s good enough for her. Dick says that’s an expensive EC, but I’ve never been to Hawaii, want to go see new birds, and he won’t go, so…….his loss!
Yeah, you’d hate to jinx yourself with that 13 thing going on.
I have added to our solved pile the past few days. At least three more solves, including……
I cannot believe I even want to put myself through this, but….
I figured I should take advantage of all my hours of work for that other evil one, and use the easy way to solve….
The Sloppy Seconds. I wonder if Trekkin’ can be convinced to be point man this time around? Doubt it. But maybe. Hopefully when we come up for the event next month.
I have already done something similar, with Marc’s Treasure Box. The way to solve any of my puzzles, if you visit the cache and take a picture! Problem is, no one is checking it out.
Ahem, Didn’t we get that one with Timberline Echoes last summer? I think that was the one, and marc is saying we’re “no one.”
Harumph! A lump of coal for your stocking! LOL
Hey PharmGirl, looks like this S4 is starting to be ruled by the ladies! Go get ‘er! I look forward to reading your log when it comes through.
