Hey Ralph, I think maybe we did some of those Iowa caches to fill that same hole, if they’re the ones in the Yellow River area near Harpers Ferry. Really nice area, I was there in early spring.

I looked at the one in Duluth and just had to laugh. I know that area well, because Dad grew up just up London Road and as kids, we spent a lot of time visiting Nana and Da there. We’re talking road trip to the North Shore next summer, so hopefully this one will still be active then. I still can’t get used to seeing the “Congdon place” called “Gleensheen,” though.

Didn’t you do the final for jenhen’s IAT loop? That’s a 4.5/3.5. Or do you mean 4.5 terrain? And….

Just curious. How close to filled is THB’s matrix now? 🙄 Maybe you can do it together. Give us a jingle when you head down! Congrats!

Well, actually, I was chosen to be on one of Cornell’s search teams a couple years ago, but then had to resign my spot due to family issues. Someday those family members will realize what I gave up—swamps, copperhead encounters, mosquitos, and maybe life birds. So far, they haven’t.

So, yeah, it would be great to get a second chance! LOL

Indeed they are! Congratulations on perhaps filling another D/T cell, too, from the looks of this one!

We’ve met all our major goals, which we’ll admit to having. Like Ralph, the goals simply help us focus our caching trips, which ultimately are for exploring and getting outside. We do them all, but will always be “woods and waters” cachers at heart. That’s usually how we choose our direction, too, though with all the gun seasons starting up, we may become a bit more urban for awhile.

Our one remaining goal is to try and place caches that take an interesting twist or bring people to the kind of place we enjoy ourselves, and to keep on top of those caches for maintenance to prevent anyone from having the kind of experiences we seem to be having lately. 🙄 We have one hanging out there we want to re-do, because it’s not really in line with our philosophy. Too many DNFs, we don’t want people to DNF a cache of ours. Enjoy the location and get a smiley. Trekkin’ wanted to try something different and it’s not the best spot to have done that, it seems.

Welcome, you’re in a great area for a nice variety of caches, and lots of them!

We’re hoping to get there before gun season starts. We talked about going over that way today, but it’s probably too wet and all that right now.
We’ve done a mess of the new ones just up the highway from that one. Daylight hours after work are limited, and with “beauty” in the name, we want to see what were looking at! Although we did a couple of those others after dark, and then we got the owls calling, so that was cool, too.

If you want to rack up some numbers, Cacheville (Nashville) might fit the bill.

We’ve heard that about Nashville, but this isn’t for numbers, but to see new areas and see what they’re like. Also to break up the Wisconsin winter caching doldrums that set in about that time. I’m also hoping moving to a different latitude might get me some new life birds!

We’re leaning toward that AR/TN/MS/KY area, awaiting some hot tips from the Bunnies as to good spots to visit. We tend to find an area that interests us, go there, cache the place out as much as we can, grabbing a few along the way to that spot. If it’s an Earthcache or letterbox not too far off the route, you can be sure we’d make that side trip!

I’ve been to eastern Tennessee for the storytelling festival and really want to go back there sometime to explore the Smokies, but for this trip, the down river approach seems a little more do-able.

The Northwest coast area? Trekkin’s been there, and I’ve always wanted to go there. That will be a longer trip some day. We hope to retire within the next three years, and then we can go places like that right after school starts, when it’s still nice but there are less tourists!

Thanks for all the good ideas. Those New Madrid EarthCaches look interesting. There’s a visible fault line along highway 61 in Red Wing MN, but there’s no really safe way to explore that one. Planning this trip will give me something to do when the weather or daylight hours drag us down these next few months.

Congratulations! How long before the next milestone the way you two cache? A week? LOL

Again, couldn’t happen to a nice couple.

GMO, We were thinking of that area this next summer, actually. We’ve both been there before, but have areas we want to explore more closely. The notion of travelling across those plains during the late season blizzard season isn’t appealing.

Yeah, south sounds good. Wondering maybe about places in the Ozarks or something like that. Just not sure, if there are EarthCaches in concentration, that makes for an easier sell to Trekkin!

Congratulations, that is an awesome cache! Did you go all the way in and check out all the “rooms?” That place is huge!

Although we weren’t involved in the planning part of the recent caching event in LaCrosse, friends were. We asked about all those caches in the Mathy property now owned by the Conservancy, and our friends told us that in the meetings for the planning of cache placements, they were told that particular property was opened for caching. That’s what I know. All very second hand.

We are members of the Conservancy and have done a work day or two, so we know a couple of the staff people. Trekkin’ has on his “to do” list to call Tim Jacobson to ask about policy. Someone else had tried this before but didn’t meet with success. I know there were some caches in the Hass property that were archived, and I can see that with some of that terrain and foliage, they might not want people tramping up and down those hillsides, especially going off trail as happens when cache hunting.

Some of the public properties owned by the conservancy are not particularly sensitive, and maybe on a property by property case they are willing to work with it. I do think that the experience of local cachers with the removal of some is a good reminder that sometimes lands that are open to the public aren’t necessarily publically owned. To be honest, I always wonder about all the lamp post hides in parking lots. That’s not really publically owned, although the public certainly has easy access.

Funny you should bring this up…after doing bandits “Eyes” nightcache last night after a fun day caching the Point, as we were heading home, Trekkin’ mentioned that he hasn’t seen our ghost in some time now. I knew I’d done a blog post about her the last time he saw her, so I checked my blog to see when it was….three years ago on Halloween.

If you want to read the story, here’s a link:

                                http://musingsonstoryandlife.blogspot.com/2005/10/true-and-ghostly-tale_31.html

We’re wondering one of two things about her long absence.

                                1) Our younger son would see her watching over him in his bedroom, and he has grown up and moved out recently.

                                2) Maybe whatever has kept her spirit restless has been brought to a conclusion.

I have never had the opportunity to see her, nor has our older son. I am no skeptic, so I guess I just haven’t been as lucky as the other two members of our family.

Irish women take these things seriously! 😉

Yup, that’s the boat we’re in, too. We did get the majority of our PQ yesterday, but a couple of “add ons” ….aren’t. Hope things come through for us all!
