OK-I like birds truth be known. I may have a book and a CD with their sounds.
Only one? You always need one more than you have, you know. I’m waiting for a good coupon to get my next book, lol.
Even though it felt more like late November outside, I saw lots of cool birds while I was out at a couple spots today. My birding day ended by watching an Osprey at fairly close range dive into the Black River and come up with a good sized fish in its talons. After that, I figured nothing could top it, so I went home!
Today I was helping the Habitat construction manager with odd jobs, one of which was to haul huge stacks of foam board insulation from the delivery spot at the ReStore to storage. While at the Restore, one of the volunteers helping at the loading dock looked at me funny. I looked at him funny. He is the grown up version of a student I had when he was in elementary school! Looks the same, too, except he’s taller and has a goatee now. One of those fun unexpected moments in daily life!
Thanks, that’s good to know, then.
Has anyone here traveled on Amtrak lately? I’m hoping to take a trip to New Mexico (cannot for the life of me spell the capital city!) and looked the the route for the Southwest Chief. They show stations along the way. Do they stop at those named stations? And if so….does anyone here know if there are bookmark lists anywhere of caches close to Amtrak stops? 😀
Looks like rain is coming, but I was able to walk to yoga and back, with a couple stops to visit with folks along my way home. Looks like a good day to work on my current sewing project.
Today I’m going to brewery yoga. Poses and Pints. Do an hour of yoga, then enjoy a pint of Pearl Street brew. Trekkin’ is skipping the yoga part and meeting me for the beer part.
Presbyterians also do that Maundy Thursday thing, but we were not good Presbyterians last night. We c0-hosted a Donerstag event instead. The weather even cooperated and people seemed to enjoy just hanging out, eating and visiting.
Pooh’s Pal actually typed in his own “attend” log for our Donerstag event. Up till now (when he could talk), he dictated what he wanted to say. Expect shorter logs for a while now.
We have “liked ” musicians’ pages on the blue site and that gives us heads up on their travels. We saw Fleck and Washburn on their own about a year ago in Madison, too. Maybe three rows back in a recital hall at Memorial Union.
This is actually related…we were hiking near Perrot today, and met a couple who we probably spent an hour chatting with. He noticed Trekkin’s “my grass is blue” tshirt and asked..”you play banjo, too? “
We went to Rapids last night to see the Del McCoury Band….great show. We saw them three years ago in Iowa, on a double bill with Fleck and Washburn. We were happy to have seen only one deer on the way home, which is really quite remarkable, considering we had to travel much of the way through Meadow Valley.
Interestingly, when we went to the “will call” table to get our tickets, we saw another envelope labeled “Jeremy Vechinski.” Did not spot him there, though. It’s a fairly big theater. Too bad!
We had a Great Horned Owl calling loudly from our pine trees around midnight last night. He moved east after a bit. We couldn’t hear “hooo” he was talking to, but I know there’s a nesting pair somewhere around here, probably in the woods above Lake Neshonoc.
We headed down to Goose Pond last evening with a friend, hoping to see a rare bird for the area. Bird didn’t show, but it was an amazing sunset over the pond with a few thousand geese of various ilk, swans, ducks and frogs carrying on. Wonderful experience, better even than NCIS.
I’ve now logged seven of yesterday’s caches, plus our DNF. Old school logging takes time, but it’s fun to relive each experience this way, too.
So yesterday, I bought western style riding boots….for when I go to New Mexico, whenever that can be worked out. Haven’t ridden since college days, but I’ve got the itch. I can’t seem to find a local riding stable, though. There’s one up by Mom and Dad’s, I’ll practice a little up there.
After that, we did a lot of hiking that about killed our knees, but it was a wonderful day…ending with finding bear tracks…fresh…mama and baby, we presume. This was in Minnesota just south of Wabasha. I’ve just started logging our finds from there, and when I finish, the last find will have the photos. It’s gonna take awhile…22 attempts, 21 finds. I’ve logged two so far.
