Interesting comments. For ourselves, we keep a balance and watch for those moments when it could creep over the line. We’re empty nesters and don’t have other than normal expenses anymore, so this has been a great way for us to get out together and enjoy outdoor activity. Trekkin’ is a “collector” by nature, and this lets him collect numbers. PC’s comments are interesting, in that of course this can be a positive addiction, which is a bit different animal, but again, as Ratz says, addiction is addiction. Personally, I like to eat too much to skip dinner. π
Mathman, I am not kidding about the scrapbook thing. Seriously! In fact, in that world, obsessing over the equivalent of numbers actually has meaning……cash from publication. But I have at least one friend who will say that her obsession was at least partly responsible for the break-up of her marriage. It can get hard core, just like any passion.
Thanks for discussing this aspect of the hobby with candor!
Hurray, it’s great to see you guys back out there getting them! Congratulations!
Congratulations, and looks like a great cache to mark it. We too hope to actually meet one of these days!
09/30/2008 at 9:28 pm in reply to: National Great River RoadΓ’β¬β’s 70th Anniversary Event #1892648Congratulations! We’d hoped to enter this one, but our road trips this past summer went north rather than along the river, and with only a handful in Wisconsin, plus one or two MN State Park ones made available in MN, it just wasn’t to be. It does seem as if these organizations hop on the geocaching train, but aren’t always able to get experienced help when they do so. I do recall early on that flooding was an issue in getting some put out in a timely manner, and perhaps the folks in those areas ended up having more important things to deal with than placing a geocache.
One every two HOURS? Wow! Congrats on an amazing number.
Way to go you guys, we have enjoyed finding some of these caches with you along the way!
Wow. Four Wisconsin cachers with +8K finds. Kind of boggles the mind.
That could be a lot of fun! I’d be game to place something. Not that we need incentive, but it would give people a new option for traveling around the state after completing challenges like DeLorme or Counties.
What would we be wanted for? Hmmmm. Left ourselves wide open here.
Thanks, y’all, it was a hoot. Yes, Pete, waterwings would have helped balance the weight of the waders, man do they get heavy when the muck is pulling you in!
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions! I had less time than I’d hoped, so I just got a few of the recommended caches—-this time. I actually enjoyed the Creepy Grottos, it probably helped that it was a nice, sunny afternoon! Also sat and sketched Consult the Oracle, fun twist. The “Best Friend” cache did indeed make me smile! We had already found Metamorphosis and Dam Tender Spot last summer and agree…those are fun ones to hunt.
I have a list now of others to hunt when travels take us there, plus a few solved puzzles I just never got to this time around, including cheetos’s “Thanks!”
I really wanted to try Hoist that Rag, but I was dressed in my nice storyteller clothes and had to be back for a 7PM show, so….another time!
Thanks for all the recommendations for some fun caches to pass the time.
Here’s another one, unclaimed so far, so it would be a FTF.

Trekkin’ and Birdin’s “How Hungry Are You?” Challenge
Do a bunch of our favorite caches, then find the final and we’ll take you and a friend out to eat! [;)]
Gary, the 5 across one would be fun.
Wisconsin will have its own Blackout Challenge in the near future. I’m just sayin’. Is all. π
Thanks everyone, we sure had fun getting there. It forced us to discover and go after some really great cache adventures to fill up our holes.
Let’s see—Appleton area challenges? Stay tuned. I got home late from my storytelling gig/caching adventures near Appleton. I’ll finish logging tomorrow! π
Holy numbers run! The man has grown wings, I say!
Congrats, zuma!
Congratulations you guys. Did you do Scaling the Donald?

Congratulations on a big milestone!
