      Barry,

You mean there’s another way to whack them? LOL

I’m thinking it’s some other bug. It hasn’t changed a whole lot since yesterday, and in fact, like someone said, it’s a bit like the Cubbies, fading with the cooler weather of fall. Does feel tender to touch, but otherwise no pain. Weird.

He he, I thought I put Johnny away about 18 months ago. 😉 He must have been released for good behavior!

We were over that way a week ago and did some of the others in that corner of the park. We decided to save this one for the picnic, looking forward to it!

Actually, quite of few of our Hixon Forest logs this summer have dealt with the issue of unusual wildlife, but this one’s my favorite, from wisundevil….

Didn’t get a chance find it, came from the Bicentenial Cache, which is near here. Wait a minute, what’s that I see, a hairy back, It can’t be a deer it would jumped an ran away. OH MY GOSH, A BEAR! I stop in my tracks. What do I do, it’s between me and the way out. I don’t want to climb to the top of the bluff and hitch a ride home. I call a friend, he says make a lot of noise. Have you ever tried to whistle when your mouth just dried up like the sands of the Sahara desert and your heart is pounding like buck fever? He looks my way, he’s big, then he slowly walks away from me, but towards my way out. So I get enough spit in my mouth and “Whistle while you work” all the way out of the woods looking behind every tree and behind me every step of the way. Maybe he had a travel bug around his neck, but where would you sign the log, his ear, or maybe a bison tube stuck someplace

I’m sorry to hear that people who volunteer lots and lots of hours of their own time to help us play this game get that kind of response. Unfortunately, I’m not surprised, but…..

I have found the turn-around time from these two to be exceptional, and they’ve always been helpful with feedback to help us create a more enjoyable caching experience, too. Anyone who would disrespect them should go sit on the naughty chair—one minute for each year of their age! 😉

To the original topic; I do understand that these things are so subjective. To the hider, things usually don’t seem so tricky, cause we know where it is! We do notice regional variations in the terrain ratings, too. Over here where we are used to hiking up and down bluffs, most of the “hardest core” terrain cachings are maybe 3-4. Others from areas with less relief come here and think they should be 5s. I usually run that little utility that rates your cache, and I’ll adjust it based on my own judgement. Usually I think it does a pretty decent job if I’m honest about the responses….meaning, I realize *we’ll* walk through swamps and thorns, but others would see that as really nasty!

I’m looking at the info and I don’t think this is the bite. (Thank goodness). It’s progressed far too slowly and the severe pain mentioned has not been an issue. Basically, the skin is okay, just looks like a halo-shaped bruising. No raised stuff, no blister like sore in the middle.

I’m just glad it’s not swimsuit season anymore.

That’s what I was afraid of. I have no idea where it might have been encountered.

Oh, that would make it worth passing up a jillion caches right in Appleton. My gig’s the 22nd at UW-Fox Valley. How far would it be to drive from there to Green Bay and the letterboxes, then back? I have a noontime gig and then one that evening.

Plus, if the timing’s right…..I could become one of those “furriners” getting FTFs, LOL.

No, it’s not that, Bec. I can now see two side by side punctures at the center. I’m not kidding when I say it looks like a really bad bruising, really dark purple, not raised, but it’s not completely circular. Looks kind of like a question mark. You know, the ring DOES look a bit like the above, LOL.

As long as it’s not an earwig eating through my brain! 😯 Honestly, I don’t think they’d find much to eat up there these days, anyway!

Which 5/5 was your planned milestone? What a perfect idea!

Congratulations on reaching it, no matter how you did it!

Hmmm…..I’ll be on Selzzups next week. Wonder if I could pull off a FTF without laptop support between storytelling gigs?

Hmmmm….something to ponder. And here I was hoping to find a couple already solved puzzles, and if time, go north to the land of two new letterboxes!

I’m afraid to think what kingdom Coulee country our way might be. Honest, it’s not OUR fault (unless you’re whining about caches that take you on long hikes in our hill country. Many of those are our fault!) (But you can generally find them when you get there!)

Mike, Big congratulations, and what a neat way to show appreciation to a good friend, too.

We’ll have to check this one out next time we’re up that way, just to see what’s making everyone smile!

                            Hi Ruth,

Children’s activities are likely to be stuff like face painting. The stories throughout the daytime, whether in the kids’ area or the other tents, should be fun for any age. In the evening, the stories *could* be more adult-flavored, or just more adult-themed. Depends on the tellers.

There are some fun caches throughout Hixon Forest nearby. You could use this one for a starting point for a PQ.

If you set your search for about 3-5 miles, you should get lots. Be aware that a black bear has been roaming in Hixon, though I’ve never been lucky enough to see it. There are some really clever ones by akahix, but they might be a bit challenging.

I can go to a storytelling festival and spend the day there. That’s me. But I do tend to see families coming to this event and spending the day. There will be music and food vendors on site, too.

Oh, I am so excited….NOT! We have to be on our best behavior, including dressing professionally, because the Governor is coming to school for “photo ops” tomorrow. His office called it something else, but that’s what it is.

His photo ops seem to be converging on special ed, too. Like I said, I am SO not happy! I don’t even HAVE nice professional clothes anymore. He might get the flaky storyteller look instead, that’s my best stuff!

Just what an elementary school with a high quota of special ed kids needs the third day of school. Sigh!

Course, the sandlanders can bask in all this now. We aren’t too far behind you!

Ours must be off too, shrek and fiona, cause we find yours and the coords are usually pretty good!

We’ve been out caching with groups of friends, all of us carrying the exact same unit. And amazed at how far off we can be from each other!
