I know Trekkin’ is caching his way home from helping his folks on this rainy Mother’s Day. Days like this are perfect for those muggle zones that would be busy on a nice day. Rain just doesn’t stop us, either.
Or snow. Or horrible sub-zero temps. Lightning is a good incentive to get inside, however! 😉
Last Mother’s Day, our older son and his dog went geocaching with us on a glorious spring day.
Today….Trekkin’ is caching his way home from helping his folks up north, and I have no sons around. Guess I can celebrate in my jammies all day, drinking coffee and grazing! Already called my mom. LOL
Happy Mother’s Day to all of you.
I saw that! We did Bald Peak last fall, I’m betting it was a different experience this time. Congratulations Rick Blick!
I’m pretty adamant about Leave No Trace, but I know there are some folks out there (probably not on these forums) who will tear a place apart. Granted, these are often dead trees anyway, but I have seen one in our area that was pretty much gutted in a short time by folks trying to find a difficult hide. I struggle with that aspect of the game.
Also, and I’m as guilty as any of us, but how often do we follow “geo-trails” to the cache? Unless it was a deer trail prior to placement, we can’t really say it’s not a trace. I guess the point is this; how exactly do we define a “trace?”
Oh my gosh, come caching over here and I can GUARANTEE at LEAST one sighting. There are nests all up and down the river here.
Thanks, I did look into that. They want the dogs to be neutered, and it not being our dog, I wasn’t ready to foot the bill for that procedure. Happily, my son was able to find a new home for her, and she has a doggie friend at her new home, so hopefully all’s well now.
Actually, during the early spring, when the ice is just starting to go out, it is not at all unusual to see upwards of 100 adult Bald Eagles on the river here like that. It’s quite the sight to see, but usually is short-lived.
I really ought to take photos one year. Any local will back me up on this, though!
It’s why Mrs. TE doesn’t bother planting real flowers in her garden anymore! She even had a bear up the tree a couple summers back and has the photos to prove it!
I think it could be done in two days. We did the first half on a day when we’d started doing hiking caches in Wabasha, heading up the river and picking up a few, stopped at Rock Elm to grab certain ones and only then getting started in Durand later afternoon. We went from Durand to Meridean, riding back to Durand under cover of darkness.
Our second outing started us in Caryville, heading down toward Meridean, then back toward Eau Claire. We got as far as the black willow one that day. We still have to go get the ones that have been re-enabled, plus the rest into Eau Claire, but had we started our first day on the trail, I think we’d have nailed it. Plus I agree. These caches are all unique and creative in their design, and some require some time and exploration.
I’m still wishing I’d had my camera ready to capture Trekkin’s face while searching for the snake one! LOL We’re hoping it won’t be too much longer before we can say we did ’em all, too!
Okie-dokie, that makes our weekend planning much easier now! Guess we’ll remove them from double point contention for the next go around, then! 😈
So here’s my next “dumb Lonely Cache” question. (I ask these as if I really had any chance at this!)
Say there are caches on the list right now that haven’t been found since, oh, May 15 of last year? Say that they get found like May 16 or thereabots? Would they then qualify for double points?
Really doesn’t matter, we’ll be going after them anyway. Had actually hoped to do so last weekend but ran into technical issues—translate–rusted out components for the rooftop rack that needed replacing! But if there’s a chance at double points, we could wait a little longer!
Congrats to both of you! Keep us updated on the winner, hey?
Did anyone else notice how barren that area around Green Bay/Appleton looks on the new Lonely Cache map? Gret work, guys!
Someone posted that the old ones are still available at Walmart. The one we’re using is REALLY old, like 1983. Hopefully we won’t be needing it much longer, though! 😆
Sorry about the immigration issues. I thought being married to a US citizen was enough. I was trying to sell a lovely young storyteller from Hungary on my son to keep her here in the states after June! LOL
I have the geocoin for this book attached to my binoculars to make them a travel bug. If you saw the coin, you’d see why it’s an appropriate one for a birder’s companion!
The red tires are a neat touch! We’re looking forward to hitting that trail sometime soon, too. Found a couple that have been there for some time when we were chasing down the zuma miles.
