Lostby7, we have done the old school thing just fine and logged over 1000 caches that way. Dick really wants the mapping software to work. We have it on the computer. We’re working on the next step. I wanted to be able to save on paper and ink, so I wanted the paperless/Palm thing. It might be another 1000 caches before we figure it all out, though.

Thanks Renee—I just walked away for awhile, and my computer must have felt remorseful, because I tried again and it went through. I didn’t bother trying to make it look nice with all the html at this point; figured I can do that when it appears on gc.com.

Oh Dave, that is the best TB of all! Can’t wait to log that one! 😉

As for marc’s comment re: “the unit;”….well, it’s just better not to comment on some statements! LOL

Okay guys, you might want to hang on just a tad longer. I finally called the folks in Clark County and got the verbal a-ok this morning. Now I have to do my write up and all that good stuff, and hopefully our second EC will be published soon!

As for lagrac’s new one, we’re waiting until that fossil place nearby is open again for the season. If we’re driving over that way, we want the full experience!

Marc, we’ve seen those events and would love to make one of them sometime. Thanks, I’ll run through this process next.

We wanted to go to the puzzle event too. I’m getting pretty good at the kinds of puzzles the Rochester crew does, though. The ones that leave me scratching my head are seldom|seen’s. The ones with just a whole bunch of photos. I’ll sit and try and try to think of numbers that relate to any of those and I come up blank.

Though that’s often a normal state of being for me these days! 😉

Okay, so if I want to put the PQ onto a Palm, what do I click in GSAK to do that? I still need to install that software and all, too. I have an older Palm 3, the kind with a folding keyboard.

Yup, we logged one of those, and the one we logged, he actually put the number of a geocoin on his vehicle, so we got an icon. Maybe I should do something like that with my binocs, too. Hmmmm

If that one doesn’t have my name written all over it, I don’t know what does! So, do those double points only go to the first player to find it?
(which I suppose is answered in the rules, if I’d click backward!)

I finally have my PQs coming to my email again. Apparently if I don’t check a day of the week, I get just the preview or something.

Now to start figuring out GSAK and my Palm and those goodies. At least I got the caches loaded into GSAK–first step!

Thought I’d mention what I discovered in case any other technochallenged folks had similar issues.

So….let’s say, hypothetically, that perhaps some cachers decide to do a little family bonding time. Like….Timberline Echoes and Trekkin’ and Birdin’…or Sagasu and labrat. Let’s say they go out together and find a lonely cache. Can both teams get the points in this situation?

                      Just askin.’ Is all.

So…never mind. I read the rules more carefully and it sounds as if many different teams can find these, just that one team can only find it one time.

I’m kinda liking the idea of checking on ones we’ve found, though. At this point in time, I’m happy to be living where we do. If you’ve cached around here, you know what I mean (terrain ratings!).

How about points for being the last one to find some of these? LOL I think we were last finders on 4 or 5 of them!

DUCK! is cool and not far from Prairie du Chien. It’s also one of those places we’d never have visited if not for caching.

Oh gotta run, you’re tempting me! We need that Delorme page, too. Trekkin’ has informed me he thinks his skiing days are over due to some weirdness in his feet from the beating they’ve taken running marathons.

However…..I could ski while he looks for others nearby. Hmmmm…..no school next week. We’ll see!

I’m still weird, too. In fact, I’m so weird, I have some wonderful real wood skis that look like wood, even. Had a heck of a time finding someone who still knew how to pine tar those things, but when I did, they thought they were the coolest things they’d seen. Every now and then I’ll pretend I’m fast and skate for a few strokes, but then reason takes over again!

Aw, I was just coming here to post the same thing. It’s a perfect cache for lagrac’s milestone, congrats Brett!

There are advantages to winter caching, though. People all over Rochester MN have followed in our tracks the last couple weeks, LOL.

I don’t mind winter caching at all, but the ice that coated everything earlier has added a different dimension to the game. We went after many “available in winter” caches yesterday that were your typical ammo box under a fallen tree. Under at least two feet of snow, so that at times, you couldn’t distinguish that there WAS a tree. With a half inch covering of ice all over everything. Frozen into its spot once we did find it.

Let’s just say that I am suffering an overuse injury to my entire right arm today after chopping ice with makeshift ice picks all day yesterday. But….we FOUND ’em! I think about every one of those should get an extra two stars difficulty rating right now, too.

We also enjoy winter, anyway. Snowshoes, x-c country skis, all that kind of stuff. If you don’t enjoy winter to begin with, it might be a bit harder to be enthusiastic. And it’s okay to do something else, too! 😉
