…..I received notice for hosting a Community Event but I just can’t get too excited about that and am not sure it’ll happen…same with the WGA’s fall picnic/campout. Sad times 🙁

We hear you, Rod.  We actually went camping for two days up north, our first time away overnight since we got back from Natchez.  We hope to get in one more camping trip in the Superior National Forest, but we stay away from gatherings and anything resembling such is our own family.  It’s tough to have to think each activity through with so much caution.

I’m not going to worry about the souvenir thing too much. I figure that I’ll probably qualify just with my normal caching.

That’s our approach, too.  We got four physical caches today when we went to Rochester to do yet another Adventure Lab.  We already have three of the seven modern wonders without even trying.  It seems that every cache has something attached to it.  It’s simply a matter of whether it’s something you need, or can get, since you have to get all the modern ones before collecting ancient ones.  Kind of silly.

Souvenirs…..some we get, some we don’t.  We figure we’ll just do our thing and see what happens.  They’ve got this one running at least through the end of the year.

We’ve done our part….hidden 26 since the whole shutdown stuff started in mid-March. Plus one Adventure Lab.

            Wow! New series?

Sorry I missed this earlier, but I’m guessing you checked our profile by now. [;] Part of our placements was a new series, but only just over half of them.  Someone got all of them yesterday and he’s not that “local.”  In fact, I don’t think many locals have actually been finders on any of them….because most of the locals don’t like puzzles, LOL

I guess that’s the long way of saying if you weren’t a local cacher here, with some investigative work, you can still figure out who our Blast From the Past folks are.  Others have done it.

We finally got some rain early this morning, so I’ve been out doing some much needed work in the gardens.  While crouched below one of the hummingbird feeders, I suddenly heard what sounded like a buzzsaw over my head.  Nope, one of the hummers  No matter how often I experience that, I’m always surprised at how loud such a tiny thing can get.

FTP for Saturday! Saw over 30 masked attendees at the Event yesterday. It was nice to geochat again.

Would have been nice to go, but we’ve been avoiding any gatherings, even masked.  I skipped out on a rare chance to see a bird far afield last weekend.  Good thing we’re doing that…..I have developed some kind of throat thing the past few hours.  [:(] Glad to see you had a good gathering, it would have been fun.

I thought they worked like Whereigo – that I needed to be a certain distance from the dot to get the checkmark and be allowed to go to the next spot. It was especially frustrating because the closer I was to the building, the farther the GPS put me into the parking lot. I actually got to within 3′ once, but never to the 0′ I thought I needed. The problem was with me, not with the AL. I was wondering about the statue at the other one!

We had a tough time getting the spot on coordinates we like to get in that spot, so I think I set the “geo-fence” a bit larger than for the rest of them.  As you probably figured out later, all you need to do is get the little “answer question” thing to show up and you’re set.

Sorry about the confusion with our AL.  We’ve struggled with understanding how they work, but after having done a few now, we get it.  It’s not the most intuitive program, but it’s improved some since they first started appearing.  Ours does require them to be completed in order, which will make sense when you do it, if you give it another try.  The Hiawatha statue is being removed sometime soon, so it’s good you got that one now.  We also know that another area cacher is working on an AL, so maybe you’ll have a couple on your next trip here!

I got some exciting news the other day.  I submitted….via voice mail, that was strange…..my synopsis of a personal story for a fundraiser in October for the Friends of the Mississippi River.  I’m on the program! This whole pandemic business has made things in the arts quite different, since this will all be virtual livestream programming.  Geocaching makes a small appearance in my story, too, unless my storytelling via zoom coach has me cut it.  I don’t think he will.  He’s a good friend and knows of my issues with finding stuff randomly placed in boxes on islands in rivers. I spent time enjoying the comet last night.  Got a photo but I’m not real happy with it.  I might try another location OR the zoom lens and forget about providing context.  I also saw two meteors….one seemed like it was literally right above my head as it blasted over.

My mom will be 96 in a couple months and lives in her own apartment.  Not assisted living or anything, but the complex does have that whole range of options.  None of us can go there right now.  My brother and his family have visited in the outdoor courtyard at a safe distance with everyone wearing masks.  I haven’t seen her since December and we might make a day trip to Minneapolis to do this, too.  Dad passed a couple years ago and given her age, so have most of her friends and relatives, so it’s pretty lonely for her.  Because of the distance and the more compromised health of Trekkin’s parents, we don’t know when we might be able to visit them.  It’s been since November for them.

Is anyone else surprised that the GeoTour event in Kentucky next month is still a “go?”  It looks like a fun one, but there are already 250 “will attends.”

I realize that the theory is that transmission risks are lower in outdoor spaces, but that many people from all over gathered together in one?  No thanks.  Our risk factor visuals for our county mention large gatherings….doesn’t matter where, but lots of people gathered in one area.

La Crosse County went down from “severe risk” to “high risk” today.  I am seeing a lot more folks using masks the past few days as well.  Our yoga studio started outdoor practices in city parks, 10 yogis max spaced way out.  I’ve been pretty good about keeping up with the youtube videos they post for us, but it was SO nice to be out this morning and seeing some of my yoga friends.  Having been gone the month of February and coming home to the world of COVID, it’s been since January for me.

Finally!  For years, we’ve been wanting to do the 4th of July drive on old highway 131, which is otherwise a hiking/biking trail in the Kickapoo Reserve.  Something’s always come up….have to do something else, it gets cancelled for flooding, something.

Today we loaded up the dog and did the drive.  Too bad it’s so miserable hot and steamy, but it was fun.  Tonight I think we’re watching “Hamilton.”  That was supposed to be last night, but someone was too tired to stay up to watch it!
