Heh, heh, we know exactly which cache that one is, too! I can’t remember if we emailed for a clue on that one or not, but I think it took us four tries before we found it. Once we (I) found the mystical fire tack, it was almost simple.

I’m sure we put in over two hours total—easily— on that one, but we enjoyed the area so much, it was (mostly) a pleasure!

We have I think phone numbers for three caching teams, but I don’t think we can really count one of those….since Trekkin’ and Mr. TE are brothers, we’d have their number, anyway.

Actually, I think those two have had each other’s number since Mr. TE was born! 😉

Okay, another reason I want to visit Maine someday. Too funny! And it looks like everyone who’s ever logged this one has never been anywhere near it. What a hoot!

We would rather DNF than ask for a hint because we will inevitable look like dorks because the cache was in plain sight.

See, cause we’re already dorks, this isn’t a problem for us! 🙄

We have asked for extra hints from one particular cacher in our area, because his hides are well known to be really tough. We always make a couple different trips on our own, with really extensive hunts before we ask for help. Funny thing is, his hints are pretty cryptic, anyway, but in two instances, the act of asking for the help had him check and discover the cache had gone missing. (No wonder we couldn’t find it!)

Most of them we have done without help, but there were those 3-4 that really had us confounded. We’ve had others phone us from the cache site, and a few folks have emailed for help. Interestingly, every one of these was the same guy’s hides! LOL

I have not made any of our hides terribly difficult. The work comes in getting to them. Three of the five are decent hikes, and the other two cemetery hides are so obscure, finding them in the first place is a challenge. I enjoy a tricky and clever hide, but not so tricky that a bit of work and lateral thinking can’t find it. No one has contacted us for clues so far, which was our intent. But I guess if they made an effort in the first place and came up empty-handed, it would be fine with me.

I added the requirement of a photo until such time as we can visit the site and think of a different logging requirement.

Here’s what I sent to our German friend.

                “Menominee Nation

Greetings from Wisconsin! I’m glad you enjoyed doing the searching for information about the Menominee Nation, it’s always interesting to learn about other cultures. Thanks for taking the time to learn about one of the nations that has been here before the Europeans and continues to care for its lands.

However, “virtual” doesn’t mean virtual in the internet sense. Cachers are still expected to actually visit the physical site before logging it as a find. I would hope you’d honor that intent and change your entry to a “note” instead of a “find.”

                Thanks and Auf Weidersehn!”

Really, I personally don’t care how people play the game, if they want to visit by out-of-body experience or whatever, so be it. I guess as a cache owner I’d like to more or less conform to the accepted practice, though.

Honeybunnies, this one is truly worthy of natloh’s impressive milestone. As imjedi said in his log, this one was the *real* Gauntlet!

                  Congrat to you, natloh.

Proving they will go to any lengths to make that milestone……. 😉

                    Congratulations, you guys.

Superior Falls is one of Lil’ Otter’s, too. Is anyone up north able to keep an eye on that one? If not, we could maybe watch it like Spring Camp, but given that it’s rather, ahem, important for those seeking the delorme, having a nearby person adopt it might be wise.

We’d be honored to adopt these two—-

                        GCFB8A
                        GC9144

And if no one else can help out, this one—
                        GCG5V4

since Trekkin’s got family up there, but it might be better if someone closer can adopt it, as we get there just a couple times a year.

Sorry to hear things are rough right now. We have appreciated all the work you’ve done all over the place for caching.

Welcome, I student taught at Rib Mountain Elementary way more years back than I care to admit. It’s a great area and we hope to do some caching up that way some day. (Trekkin’ and I met in college at Point).

This is pretty cool geologically, actually. Many geologists think the Kickapoo is the oldest river system on the whole darn planet, and it has unique “seeping sandstone” walls, thus the National Natural Area.

When I go down tomorrow, I want to visit the Reserve Center. It has never been open the times we’ve been there, and maybe by talking in person to folks there, I can get that part of the approval process done.

Oh, then I might be in for double trouble, which is the part confusing me, anyway. The Kickapoo River Valley is designated as a National Natural Landmark, with fed and state ownership. So I’m guessing I’ll need to contact both entities to obtain approval.

Guess I’d better get going on this one! I’m driving down tomorrow to pick out my spot. I won’t have a GPS until next week, though. Trekkin’ is taking it to the re-enactment up in Grand Portage. No, it’s not a period correct “compass,” but he figured he could grab some delorme pages on his way home.

Hope he changes out of his 1750s French militia uniform before he leaves!

This kind of thing isn’t limited to geocaching, either. Trekkin’ and I used to do volksmarches when our sons were younger, and Trekkin’ did even more with a fellow walker. They kept encountering this guy who claimed an incredible number of walks, and looking at him, it just didn’t compute.
They did the math and he’d have to be doing 2-3 of them every single day. There just aren’t that many out there to do, and you can only get one walk credit for any of the seasonals. You can get as many distance stamps as you want for doing them more than once.

                                Keeps like interesting!

We placed ours in one of our caches, and get this….it was retrieved by someone visiting the area named “redjeepguy.” He took it back to OK and placed it in the “Red Jeep TB Hotel.” How cool is that?

We retrieved one other one and moved it on. We have seen a couple others and left them for others.
