Thanks Justin, it wasn’t that hard to do. Shrek and Fiona have a great series of caches on the Omaha Bike Trail. It was a great way to mark a milestone, too!
We aren’t going to have many more like this, though. We have less than 50 unfound caches in a 30 mile radius. Hope gas prices start to drop soon! 🙄
Yeah, I just finished logging finds, too. So, where did you cache today, bandits?
Hi,
If you aren’t completely restricted to LaCrosse only, “Lair” about 20 miles down and across the river in MN is a definite must. Right in LaCrosse, “Grandad Bluff Quarry” is pretty cool, if you don’t mind heights. “Neshonoc Battleship” in West Salem is a really clever multi-cache.
About 8 miles to the east of LaCrosse is the Coulee Experimental Forest. There are three caches there, plus a final for a series in the area titled “Risk.” (which I also recommend–some fun hides, but you have to do a bit of driving to complete the series. Not tons, but some). These are not quick finds, but take nice walks up and down in the forest. Along those lines, there are quite a few in the Hixon Forest area. “Aspen Trail Cache” is one and you can check nearby caches. On the other side of the ridge we have one called “Coulee Birding Series 2” and another area cacher placed another hike one there called “HPT Trails.”
These are just some possibilities. I tend to like the long, scenic hikes, for what it’s worth. If you want more info, pm me.
Wholly geez, gc.com member since 2001 and only 36 found! Thats gotta be a record.
Or maybe it’s restraint? Extreme restraint?
No, not a bummer escorting them–especially since they’re family! Just that we couldn’t claim more than three of them for ourselves.
The hunting with them was a blast!
Love this area and it’s not far from home, but…..I host a storytelling retreat that same weekend in Lansing Iowa. Too bad, wish I could do that Calvin and Hobbes transmogrification thing and be in both places at once!
For those who haven’t been down here already and don’t have conflicts, it’s well worth the trip. There are 8 permanent caches in that park (that we still have to find) and many others up and down the Kickapoo Valley. Bring your canoes or kayaks for this one!
Ours came today, and once I know what they want people to do for this year’s contest, I’ll take a photo or whatever, then place it in one of our caches that hasn’t had any action since the end of April. That ought to get some folks out hiking again (plus there are three other caches in that state forest–not sure why folks don’t go after these!)
Good luck, labrat, hope this works for you. I did the same thing with the ones I released, and one has disappeared from the face of the earth. We have thought too that perhaps some don’t realize they are trading, not keeping items, but mine was clearly marked as such. They all have specific missions in the hope that whoever grabs them will help further the mission.
SammyClaws. I tried that. Contacted everyone who logged between the log showing it was in the cache and the first log to mention it being gone. No one has seen it. Maybe it will show up elsewhere eventually, but for now, I pulled it and marked it as lost, so other don’t go specifically hoping to find it.
I did hear a hopeful story this week. Timberline Echoes (Trekkin’s brother and sil) just spent a few days with us, and they had sent out a TB over two years ago with a mission to go to Alaska, then work it’s way back to them. It all happened according to the mission, so there are success stories out there, too!
I got some help from Lostby on this one, and it’s one where the location isn’t all that much easier than the cache itself. But fortunately, I did take a photo of one of the works of art that was a truck in a former life at Dr. Evermor’s. Two weeks ago.
Did I ever get a nasty vehicle penalty though, LOL.
After this, I have to hope I can decode all this stuff and pinpoint the hideout. Almost there!
Trying to figure out my last location and possibly the requirement for it, since I can’t get any car ones close by.
It looks like I’m in a canyon or something just east of the big bowknot bend in the Green River. Off of Hatch Point Road, and I see a crossed off location with “Hatch Point” in the name. I am stumped trying to figure it out. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, what was the requirement for it?
I’m too chicken to just go on a chase and take my chances now, since it’s the last one I have to make! TIA
Oh, Timberline Echoes is arriving here tonight, and we all plan to do some caching tomorrow. Maybe ours will come so we can send it on its way as a team.
If Mr. TE and Trekkin’ don’t revert to their childhood and decide to play with the darn thing! 🙄
Two nights in a row? I think this really IS a message to just quit now, LOL. But I only have two to go!
I suppose lots of people are trying to arrest their outlaws in the evenings and it makes the site crash or something. Has anyone else encountered this while playing?
We didn’t have time after storytelling and caching, but I want to go back and check the place out. I did see it. Does that count? 😀
Well of course. Continuing my bad luck in this venture, I have to place Mudd Varner in jail in about 20 minutes, and the caching place website is barely functional right now! Weird overlapped huge letter page that takes forever to load, if at all, or maybe one of those wonderful “page not found” messages if that gets too old.
I may just call it quits right now. It’s becoming more frustrating than fun.
LightningBugsMum, you are still ahead of me on that one. At least I picked the right vehicle this time, but now…..I can’t seem to get on the site to look for my FF spot! I try to go there, and the home page is all messed up, and trying to work around the links just gets me error messages.
I am taking this as a sign. We decided not to go after any caches today because of the weather forecast, so I figured it would be a good time to look. It is not to be, I guess!
