You’re doing way better than we are. I would be thrilled beyond belief if we could even finish this by July. Don’t know if I’ll ever figure out these codes, though! (I do know the answer to that riddle, however!) I figure for a few of these I also have to hope the secondary requirement will work. We got lucky that way this past weekend. We’d already logged in to chase the train one, and ran out of time to go do that cache. Luckily, one of the others we’d visited that day worked by way of the secondary.
Lostby, I got a 3 hour penalty on my last chase. The other 4 were good.
Since I’m home with sick old Trekkin’ today, I decided to put this time to good use. I’m finding myself horribly frustrated by the codes, considering I love crosswords, anagrams and the like. I need to just step away for awhile.I’m trying to locate caches for some of the other bandits. Terminator Sam is giving me trouble. The closest one I can find that would fit the bill seems to be this one.
GCNWY7
I really can’t justify that kind of travel for just caching. Anyone know of others on this side of the state?
I still have to nab Johnny Waypoint, too. Hear he’s nasty! 😉 Hopefully when Trekkin’ is better we can hunt him down at a cache that just popped up close to home!
Trekkin’ is still waiting for the results of his Lyme’s test, but he has been treated two times before this (and before geocaching, he’s also a historical trekker). The second time around, they gave him the prophylaxis, but this time they want to wait for the test, I guess. I know that the medical profession has moved toward less routine prescribing of antibiotics to avoid the development of “superbugs.” I have good friends whose state cross country running son spent 17 days in the hospital as a result of an antibiotic resistant strain of pneumonia.
Trekkin’ is actually allergic to penicillin, and tells me that as a kid, anytime he was sick, the doctors would give him penicillin. It is a wonder drug, but like any wonder, it needs to be used judiciously. Hopefully we’ll have test results soon.
Right now, he’s a pretty sick puppy. No caching for us for awhile, I guess!
Get well, everyone.
You can also use mapquest. There’s a feature that allows you to put in latitude and longitude. Do that, then switch to aerial view and zoom in and out to see what it’s like. I’ve been using that, have caught 5 outlaws and only got a small penalty from one vehicle choice so far.
Am I surmising that I need to figure out those codes in the case files to determine the Fast Forward? My brain is hurting from all this thinking!
I read some of the little hints on the game forum, but I still am clueless.
Maybe I’d better read a little more on the decoder coins I have. I’m wondering if something on the newspaper page might hold the key?I’m blaming it on brain fog that most teachers suffer these last few days of school!
Lightning Bugs Mum, we must have been posting at the same time! 3 Hawks, this is definitely not a cold. Trekkin’ rarely gets sick so when he does, he does so in grand fashion. His last comment before nodding off again was “If it turns out to be Lyme, I’m only doing urban caches or winter caching from now on.” He’s been treated for Lyme twice already.
I’m as much a tick magnet as he is, but have been lucky—so far.I haven’t even figured out at what point a Fast Forward might occur. Need to read their forums a bit, I guess.
Our chases might come to a halt, too. Trekkin’ has been pretty sick since last night. Docs aren’t real sure what it is, but he’s waiting for the lyme test to come back. Sigh.
Oh, what a lucky find! I was talking to someone here who was going to be doing this, I wonder if she found any.
Thanks for sharing her.
I had read all that, but we want to canoe. If you’ve seen it lately, it might even be tough to bike/hike to at the moment. We’re hoping it was on high enough ground to not wash away. We plan to be on the water as soon as the sandbars reappear!
Here’s one not far from here that we haven’t done yet.
GCYXTY “Perrot Sunset Cache.”It has two Ys in the waypoint. That could work for Jasper James. I can’t find any close by that would work for the names.
Yippee! I think that there could be a bit of an advantage to not having done most of the local caches.
Here’s one with “angel.”
GCZXNT “Sleeps with Angels”This one would work for the crop one.
GC107ZX “Way Back Cornfield in Chimney Rock”As would this one.
GCNDF0 “Apple Blossom Overlook”I know there is also one in the Chippewa Valley somewhere about a needles in haystacks. Along with that one, I found some up there with “muddy” in the cache names.
3 Hawks, We’ve done the tanks. Done the Brice Prairie one. The one I just did this morning, geoscrabble 2, had plenty of room but I’m using that one for Nopar King. I really don’t think when there are folks on a chase who have already found 8, and I just finished number 4, that I have huge chances, but it’s fun to play! I think we’ll plan a run up to get that cornfield one, as there are several out that way we haven’t looked for yet. Plus, we only scratched the surface in BRF on Sunday, and haven’t even headed down Westby/Kickapoo way yet.
Oh man, maybe I can actually convince Trekkin’ of the wisdom of a visit here. This is also one of the birding gems of the state, and we aren’t all that far from it! Although I really try to do most of my birding close to home–97% of my life list of 217 North American birds—it’s nice to, as they say, sometimes kill two birds with one stone!
Now, how about Wyalusing? Although it’s already kind of late for me to catch all the really good birding action down there. And don’t even get me going on the Mlwaukee Coast Guard Impoundment! LOL
Robin, I’m glad you’ll still release them, because we’ve had the privilege of finding—-and logging and moving–a few of yours. We had a hard time letting the South Pointing Compass go, but it is so cool, everyone needs a chance to log it! Thanks for trusting human nature to be good most of the time.
It pains me to know that people would just keep these. Trekkin’ has had a hard time letting the ones go we’ve bought, and if any disappear, it will be hard for him to keep paying for coins that go missing. Too bad.
Has anyone done the one with the star? I’ll be curious to learn how much difference those numbers make distance-wise. We need to figure out one where we’ll have some walking room, not always an easy task in the Couee Region, where caches get hidden in rock walls and valleys!
There are some in the area that would work, but we have them already.
🙁Okay, so how bad would it be for me to change our cache name to include the word “best” in it? It would work for the caching series. We’re planting the next one as soon as my knees recover from yesterday’s run up the peaks of Jackson County, and I already added the word “tricky” to that description.
So I’m not helping myself, obviously, but other players get a break. As I said, show your appreciation with geocoins, LOL.
You need to come over this way, tyedyeskyguy. We didn’t do that one today, but we did a bunch over there, including four other peak climbs. We never find the right trail, always climb without ropes and carabiners, but the views are always incredible up there. There are at least four more like the ones we did today out in that country. It’s a pretty wild area. There are wolf packs roaming, for example, though I never seem to see any.
We didn’t get to our railroad logging trail–ran out of time– to apprehend Billy Goatee, but all is not lost. One of our alternatives says if a cache mentions a mine, we’re good. One of the climbs mentions a quarry. I figure that’s like a mine. 😆 Hopefully they’ll agree with that thinking. Quarries are a place where large quantities of natural resources are removed from the earth, right? Only problem? I have to wait until 1:09AM to arrest him! We’re meeting Ma and Pa Ruby to do a canoe cache at 8am! After all the hiking/climbing, I’m more than happy to be doing one that will let me SIT on my way to the cache!
